View Full Version : Rainbow baby after 5 losses - Scan Results pg 5

We are happily pregnant again after 5 losses in a row, and praying that this will be our rainbow baby. Everything so far has gone well so we're cautiously hopeful, even though I'm very anxious!

Just for fun, here's our scan pics at 12+4 (baby measured a little ahead). Unfortunately no nub visible that I can tell, but I was far more concerned about trisomy markers than anything else at the scan. Plus baby was being a bit stubborn and I had to change positions a lot just to get the measurements they needed.

I think the skull is quite girly, but no nub so it's hard to say. For comparison's sake the bottom pic is one of my middle son who had a VERY boy skull and nub.

Any guesses?

Hugest congrats Lace! I'm super happy and so very excited for you! In the middle pic (the 3D one), I *think* I make out slight stacking. It could also be swollen girlie bits. I agree- the skull does look very girlie. I'm giving you a slight girl lean. I'm just so happy for you [emoji4]!!

Due around Sep 8. Honestly at this point we just want healthy - after all the unexplained losses chalked up to chromosome problems, just getting an all-clear on the health part will already feel like winning the lottery.

DH said he couldn't see any bits between the legs, lol. Unfortunately I didn't get a good look at the screen as I was turning all over the place trying to get baby into a decent position for the measurements.

I don't think I see anything that could be stacking though? Don't the "bits" have to be right at the crotch?

Oh and hey just noticed your ticker, congrats to you too!

Thanks so much, we haven't finished our screenings yet so we're still pretty scared, but fx this one will be a keeper. That's all that matters, we just want a healthy baby.

I can't see a nub and agree that the skull looks girly. I'm always cautious putting scan pics of siblings because if someone doesn't read the text they will think it's the same baby and then guess boy (there is some stacking in that last pic).

Fingers crossed for this baby!

LOL yes the last pic is a totally different baby - my current 11yo who's very much a boy! I'd have labelled the pic individually but I can't seem to figure out how to do that on this board.

No matter, a girl would be wonderful but another boy would be fabulous too. So happy Disney and Pooh stuff is trendy this year!

Unfortunately, that's all I have. The tech we got was really tight lipped and my priority was making sure the NT measurement and other major trisomy markers were okay, going into the scan I was just terrified about chromosome problems. I still am but at least we've passed one scan.

Hubby says he didn't see anything that looked at all like an angled boy nub or stacked nub, and he was staring at the crotch every time he could lol. I couldn't see since I was turned to one side or the other (baby was being stubborn).

Well.....team yellow is okay too LOL. I'm still an anxiety basketcase over defects right now so as long as it's healthy at the next scan, that's all I want. Anything else is just gravy!

Hey nice! Thanks smarston! We'll see what happens, I've just worked myself up in an anxious lather over just the baby's general health. RPL PTSD is a thing.

We've hedged our bets though, just reserved an asian female embryo with Donor Nexus (HRC). I feel a little crazy doing so but asian PGS tested embies are extremely hard to come by, first we've seen in almost 2 years on the waiting list. Might be flushing our $1500 down the drain but we couldn't pass it up either.

AAA Oh gosh I was just thinking about you!! What a beautiful sight!

I won't guess gender off of these, just not the shots I like to have or the gestation I prefer. But I will say I am over the moon for you - baby is beautiful - and I hope all is going well otherwise. Hugest congrats.

Thanks Atomic! And hey, that is fine.....Team Yellow is fine. If it's healthy I will feel so much joy I will already want to explode from it.

Things are going okay for now, unfortunately I'm a total headcase. To be expected I suppose but it's not fun to be such an anxious mess.

And if another boy, we already have an adorable Disney/Pooh layette in mind, and it would still be absolutely amazing.

We ended up having to go to the ER for some unexplained bleeding, which was really not the way I wanted to get another scan!!! But we did get a good look at the potty shot and it should be a girl! The tech wouldn't say for sure as it is still on the early side at 15+5 but she said girl, and I saw the shot and it had zero boy parts and the 3 white lines so fx.

The bleeding is still unexplained unfortunately which is frustrating. It's at least not incompetent cervix or placental previa at this point, no obvious hematomas. So it's a mystery, grrrr. On self imposed bedrest this weekend.

Unfortunately now I'm freaking out over the femur length seeming to measure short but it wasn't done very carefully either so I'm trying my best not to worry unless they tell me there's something to worry about. After so many losses though that's hard to do!!

Thanks XX!! I wouldn't do a gender reveal or anything yet as it's still early lol, but I know what my boys looked like around 16w and it was most definitely different.

There's been spotting off and on and even some small bleeds here and there since 9w or so, so this isn't new, but yesterday was a lot more blood so I needed to make sure my cervix looked okay which it does. The source of the bleeding is still a mystery but I can live with that - I just need to be careful with my activity to avoid irritating whatever it is anymore. Best guess is a small SCH somewhere they can't see but that shouldn't be a big deal. It's totally stopped this morning again. I'll just have to take it easy and unfortunately be on total pelvic rest. Sigh. Poor DH! LOL

Also I need to stay off Dr Google all it does is scare the crap out of me!

XXforhubby
March 25th, 2017, 11:54 AM
I agree with you about the likelihood of an SCH causing the bleeding, given the scan ruled out other sources. Please don't search Google! It's so hard to find primary sources that are reliable for explaining symptoms. Anyone can post things that are very scary!

Take it easy and let's hope the bleeding just stays away!

Definitely will be extra careful! It can also be a cervical polyp....the symptoms sound exactly like mine (intermittent painless bleeding, bright red with clots but stops right away, recurs every 10 or so days). I'm afraid of getting any internal checks because I really don't want to irritate things down there, but I guess if it happens again I will have to get it checked out. For now - no jumping, easy exercise only, no sexy times, no internal exams LOL. Holding my breath for the next 5 or so months......

Dr Google is evil. Both with my bleeding concerns and fetal growth concerns. I need to stop googling!

LacePrincess

Thanks AS! It's recurrent and painless, and doesn't progress, which are all good things. And not finding a giant hematoma is a good thing too. I've had pink/red spotting happen here and there all the way along so it's mostly just an annoyance, and it's usually clearly set off by a difficult bowel movement, but Friday was just a lot of blood. I thought cervical erosion should just be spotting so it worried me. It stopped fast though, no contractions or anything.

It really seems to fit the polyp symptom description but I haven't had an internal check yet (I don't want anyone not super sterile and qualified poking around in there right now!!!) so, I don't know for sure. On Monday I'm going to go ask my GP to refer me to the OB now (usually the OB's here don't see you till 28w - grrrr!) so they can check me over more carefully. The bleeding has thankfully stopped but I'm still so constipated that every time I'm even backed up down there it puts pressure on my cervix and starts off some fresh spotting all over again.......which worries me since I don't want my cervix irritated all the time and start dilating. I will push for the OB to get me in asap so they can monitor me better.

In the meantime, baby is booting me up a storm in there! LOL

Edit: Just wanted to add that the screen shot we saw of the potty shot was pretty much as perfect as it gets - directly underneath the bum, both legs in view (so not tilted too posterior), legs widely spread in a big U, no noise or blurring, no cord/hands in the way of the crotch. The lines pretty much looked like the lines in this pic except the middle line wasn't as long - none of the lines protruded in front of the body at all. About as girly as it gets for this gestational age, I would think! Hubby looked the whole scan and couldn't see boy parts at any point, and baby wasn't lying on tummy or anything where it would be squished, so we're very hopeful even if not quite ready to do a gender reveal, LOL.

Too bad they didn't have printer capabilities on that particular machine. Also, this pic isn't mine, I found it on the net as a textbook example of a girl scan pic, but our shot was even better since both legs were fully in view.

Because you're making the leukorrhea, if your cervix has the tiniest little owie, it mixes with the discharge and makes it look a lot more noticeable. It doesn't have to be erosion per se, just a little wound. Cervix is so soft right now that it gets injured easily (even by having constipation, not unusual really).

I think you should stay on pelvic rest for now and I hope and pray it resolves soon. :)

LacePrincess
March 26th, 2017, 12:08 PM
You don't have to tell me twice LOL. Definitely pelvic rest and I'm also being very cautious with activity just in case. The fact that it stops for more than a week between red spotting/bleeds makes me think polyp of some kind. Now if only I could fix this stupid stupid constipation that just keeps irritating things. I'm eating prunes and oatmeal daily, lots of dark green veg, 15 metamucil capsules and 3 Colace a day, gallons of water, and things are still backed up. So frustrating!!!

Friday's bleed was definitely a bleed though....ugh....not just freaky looking discharge. At least it only lasted a few min before tapering off.

Oh these are the announcement shirts we made the boys - we still haven't told them yet, we're going to gift them with them tomorrow and film their reactions. Though I'm sure the older two have already guessed what's going on lol.

Lose the Metamucil. Fiber can actually make constipation worse once it starts by adding bulk to what is already there.

While you don't want to use this all the time, a little Alo drink may help get things moving again. It says they do have it in Canada - it's available here at health food stores, it's an aloe based juice. I would not make a habit of it daily since not tested during pregnancy but now and then it really works. Was the only thing that helped me immediately after having my last two!!! I think it works better than any of the other things on the market.

LacePrincess
March 26th, 2017, 03:05 PM
I'm avoiding aloe since it can cause contractions and I'm pretty paranoid of untested substances. Waiting for the Motherisk (helpline for pregnancy meds advice) to open tomorrow to see what laxatives I might be able to take. I know the stimulant types are a no-no.

No spotting today so far, so fx.

Blah, spotting has been recurring again in the past day or so. Now I'm freaking out over every ache, sore back, legs, etc.

Getting a scan tomorrow to check again where the heck this bleeding is coming from, and I'm also worried if baby will be looking like it's okay. Thankfully our IPS screening came back great, but I can't help but worry anyways.

I have so much medical appt fatigue right now, between all the routine appts, emergency scans, and urgent appts, I just want to feel okay but it's been pretty hard to feel that way when things keep happening!!!

Okay had my transvag scan. The cervix looked great - closed, no funnelling, 4.5cm. The placenta is anterior low lying though, and 2cm clear of the inner os. So that could explain the bleeds. Too early to sweat previa yet, I'm just really glad it wasn't incompetent cervix.

Ach they were super careful to avoid potty shots this scan though, darnit! So no extra look at the gender shot. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

My crap luck on Fridays continue, however. Today at lunch I broke a tooth! ARGHHHHH! I can't believe it, Fridays at lunch hour is really jinxed for me!

Oh that's good news. When I had my spotting with my 4th, that was the issue exactly - just under 2cm away from cervix opening. 8 lb baby in the end (and OMG smart!) my spotting went away by 15 weeks and was able to have vaginal birth.

Sorry about your tooth! Ow!

Yes, from now on on Fridays between 11am-2pm I am going to sit very still in a room with no windows and not move. LOL. Apparently peeing and eating a sandwich are both dangerous for me in those hours! Also, on the way to the scan DH drove the wrong way up a one-way street. Cursed!

Alright, I am determined not to have GD with this baby, no matter what. He or she has been 5 YEARS in the making - so it's just not important. I chose names yesterday, and themes, so no matter what it'll be awesome.

So, if it's a boy: Andrew David and the theme will be Baby Mickey and Friends. (I love Disney so much!)

If it's a girl: Emily Anne, the theme will be butterflies with soft pink and vintage grey as the colours.

Both middle names are after my inlaws. So now I'm pretty darned thrilled about having either.

Update: had my anatomy scan today! It went well, everything went fine as far as I could tell. Today is 19+3, and they confirmed that baby is A GIRL!

Of course with scans there's still a chance they could be wrong, but I should be far enough along to feel pretty safe with that. :D

Still spotting off and on, annoying as heck, but it's probably cervical at this point. The placenta is now 3cm away from the os so still a tad low but it is moving in the right direction.

XX - not sure, I will ask the GP. They couldn't get a measurement of the cervical length from the ab scan today so with all the spotting still an issue I want to have another check of the cervix in the next little while. I will ask the GP to get another transvag scan though.

I assume that I will get another check of the placenta later on no matter what, 3cm isn't previa but it's borderline. I guess it'll depend on the OB, I start seeing the OB at 28w (yeah it's super late, but that's the standard of care here.)
