Hi all,
I may have asked this before but can't really remember.
I am 14 weeks pregnant and have been on Metformin for about 1 year due to PCOS.
Is it perfectly safe to stop taking it in second trimester?
I'm so paranoid stopping it may cause a miscarriage.
Please help?!

I stopped by end of 1st, early 2nd, but not cold turkey. I gradually spaced out and reduced dosage over the course of about 3-4 weeks so my body would gradually gets used to not having it.

Thanks girliecat, and it's perfectly safe to do so in 2nd trimester?
Sorry...just a little paranoid...

I followed my doctors direction on when. I would ask your doc/mid wife.

I'm sorry I thought I'd already ansswered this, if your doc gives you the ok, then just gradually wean off. Many docs will tell you it's ok to just drop it cold turkey, but it doesn't hurt anything to wean off of it.
as for safety, do try to keep in mind that babies need to GROW in the 2nd and 3rd trimester and you may very well need to allow your body to boost your blood sugar (which happens naturally in pregnancy) to allow your baby to develop normally. So if your doctor says it is time to come off of it, please do!
