View Full Version : No Gestational Sac at 5 weeks

fefecooks
May 9th, 2017, 07:19 PM
Anyone's numbers not double? I only went from a 400 to 577 beta in 41 hours then 2158 five days later. Nurse seemed concerned. No gestational sac at 5 weeks and 1 day. No ectopic found either. Lining is thick. They are waiting for me to bleed. She wanted beta to be at least 3000.

OH no Fefe - any chance it could have been twins and one not made it?? That can sometimes cause a slowing of beta rises (one twin's HCG stops rising)

 for good news.

Never thought of that. I was on L-arginine as prompted by RE (she says it makes multiple eggs).

I have to wait until Friday when I return home for bloodwork and ultrasound. I am spotting slightly today when I wipe occasionally. ☹

The only difference between this spotting is that there are no chunks or dark clots like I normally get when period is about to start or when I miscarried before. Just light brown which is very unusual for me.

Just left. Tech said she saw something that looked like a sac but it was way small at 5.5 weeks. Didn't find anything in tubes at least. My lining decreased from 22.9 down to 18 due to the spotting. Took bloods to see if they went up or down. I praise God that it's not tubal at least. That part is a relief.

Beta only came back at just over 5000 today. Was looking for about 8600 for correct math. ☹ Said my lining is now jagged. Said it could be twins, pseudo sac or miscarriage. 3rd scan on Monday with OB.

Pseudosac is when it's ectopic but the body develops a sac in the uterus anyway.

I'm sorry. I don't think this is looking good. :(

I agree even if it was twins and one had gone, the one should be having normal rises still.

Yes pseudo is ectopic - but the thing is I have never seen that one time in 8 years on the two sites so that is really quite rare. Several ectopics but never with a pseudosac.

I have no idea, hopefully you will go back and have two little babies growing.
Mine went to 27,000 before it started falling. I got a positive pregnancy test in May started spotting the following week. Kept going back every two days to see my betas go up. Had ultrasounds and they were like look there's your sac you are measuring 4 weeks 5 days. That wasn't possible because it would've made me conceive the day I got a positive on a test. In July they finally confirmed my miscarriage. I held out until September for a dnc but I had to episodes of soaking pads in aug and sept to blacking out that I was over it and needed the dnc done.

RE tech from another group:

Felesha Bell- it appears one sac is much smaller and that twin may not make it. That could account for your not doubling numbers. Not to give you false hope. But when you have twins the numbers are meshed. If one twin starts dropping out the number for the surging twin could be ok but it appears they aren't rising right. And they aren't for 2. But for one they could be. Just hang on and let's see what happens. Today's number may give more of a clue. Your dr isn't saying much bc he sees what's going on and right now he just can't call it bc honestly he doesn't know. Time will make all things clear though . Was this a medicated cycle?

That is a fantastic number. Just hang on here and let time tell. You can't prevent a mc. If you have brown - go to town, red go to bed is our little saying . I am encouraged by that 17000 that more than doubled. Maybe both twin will make it.

Also says she could see something inside sacs which neither of my offices could.

Because your body still "thinks" it is pregnant and is keeping things going. Now this may be because there is more going on here and your doc's office, IMO, is doing the right thing being patient (although I know it is like putting you through a meat grinder emotionally) because too often, docs insist immediate D and C and sometimes the pregnancy is actually working out. So while I know this is hard I think they're doing the right thing, being honest that it's not looking good but not insisting on medical management yet.

I do agree about the twins - that is what I was driving at before only her explanation is much better than mine.

I do want to point out, though, that one pic on the Internet is not going to be capturing all that your doc's office saw during the ultrasound. I just don't want you to have false hope based on one picture - although I do completely agree that it ain't over till it's over and that doctors DO get it wrong (and this has been shown in studies) with both betas and ultrasounds.

Hang in there  and  coming your way.

I'm reading that RE's machines typically don't go above 5000 which is why she probably told me it was over 5000 but wouldn't give exact number. Maybe it was over 8000 on Friday which explains the crazy jump to 17000 (regular lab) on Monday?

At 8 weeks 5 days measuring only 6 weeks 5 days with two gestational sacs only. Another diagnosed missed miscarriage with blighted ovums. Thank you for all your prayers and support. Still not giving up on the possibility of motherhood someday. I will trust in Him. Just wish I could do something about my egg quality. Numbers are not bad but the 600mg of ubiquinol over several months certainly didn't help like I believed it would.

No need to go that far, as too low carb may also be bad for fertility. Aim at a diet like the Zone or Perfect Health Diet that has good carbs but overall is less in refined carbs and sugar. Paleo is good but make sure you're getting SOME carbs (continue eating lots of fruit and veg and nuts). Gluten free can be quite high carbs so depending on how you were doing it that can backfire (it's great for people for whom gluten is an issue, but can mess with egg quality for some)

About 4% that one or the other of you does. But Trisomy 13 risks increase with age and Trisomy 16 is just super super common, among top causes of miscarriage and it most likely was just sheer bad luck. I know several people on the site who had had more than one loss due to Trisomies and went on to have a healthy pregnancy afterwards, and additionally many of our HT ladies who have fertilized eggs that have several of their tested embryos found to have numerous trisomies in among the normals. It does happen quite regularly, unfortunately, so while it may be worthy of investigation I don't want you to jump to the worst conclusion first.

I am so, so very sorry for your losses.
