We don't REALLY have any idea how any of this works. Well, we have ideas, but that's all they are, so please take this for whatever it is worth and not as gospel, proven fact because it isn't.
I believe that the way swaying works is by harnessing natural suppression of fertility. Your body has these primitive "birth control" methods it uses to lower odds of conception during times when it perceives it's bad for you to conceive. So things like dieting, exercising a lot, just having had a baby, etc suppress your fertility to a greater or lesser extent. Mirena does the same thing. So when you come off it, the mirena mojo is still in your system and you're a little less fertile.
Now, as for the actual mechanism of how it all works - I don't know. Again, my speculation is ONLY just that. I suspect that it may make some sort of changes in the EWCM that signals X sperm, or more X than Y, to capacitate while Y sperm, or more Y sperm, stay dormant. Since only capacitated sperm can fertilize an egg, this then, in turn, gives an advantage to one gender vs. the other. This, to me, is the most likely mechanism for gender swaying to work. May be totally wrong, just that I find it (or some variation on that theme) the most likely.

With any frequency pattern. Regardless of what the husband did, one attempt got good results.
Simultaneously, neither abstain nor FR got stellar results. Better than 50-50 but lower than the overall success rates and way lower than the one attempt got. So I personally can't interpret these results as meaning anything other than that abstain and FR are not really helping, whereas one attempt is for some reason.
But that having been said most people do still want to start off using one or the other.
