Is BBT used to predict O only or is there another reason to do it ?

No it is typically used to confirm O. Some people get a dip in their temps the day the O but you have to be charting a few months to see any patterns and know your cycle well enough to predict it based on temps alone.

it's helpful to know WHEN you have OVed, how long your luteal phase is (time between OV and AF) in case that's not long enough to get pregnant, when to test because you can calculate the day AF is due, can be used to spot pregnancy if you have more high temps than normal/if AF is late as a result

it's possible to get a pos OPK and not ovulate, so BBT can be very reassuring

a lot of women don't get a temp dip before OV, and OV isn't confirmed until you have had 3 high temps so often by the time you would get the confirmation of OV on your chart it is far too late to conceive
