Age, pretesting, clinic. Those 3 factors determine success.
The more you have working against you, the more difficult it can be.
Quality is most important. Nobody ends up with 10 healthy embryos on day 5. Most get 1 maybe 2. You really do just need one good one BUT numbers help because you lose half to gender.

NBP is right. I had a lot of eggs collected, and 8 to biopsy, and only 2 healthy, 1 xx and 1 xy. Although I've seen people here who got many xx or xy (maybe more than 5) in a cycle, is not the norm. I would aim to quality always.

I would definitely go to the US.
I'm not saying that Cyprus is bad, but for reading the cycle diaries, I would think you have better chances there

SoFullOfHope - I am stuck in exactly the same place as you. Do I go to the US once or twice to cyprus... so hard.
I haven't had ivf before and it worry me that I have no idea how many body will react to the meds. I could spend me first cycle in the US just seeing how my body reacts and get nothing from it other than some history and the end up in Cyprus anyway due to money OR do I try Cyprus as my test and then go to the US if needed. It's so so difficult.... I totally empathise

I'm also worried about the process in Cyprus as it isn't regulated. Eg do they really distroy any healthy unwanted genders etc. It would eat me up I think

No one does anything with your embryos until you express your wishes and sign consent forms. You do not need to donate them to science or discard them unless you make the decision to do so.

Yes, it's a decision we all have to make when we go through the process. But remember- embryos aren't guaranteed babies. They only have the potential to become babies.

Dear Mummy81,
My thoughts exactly!
On the one hand, I think I should give Cyprus a shot as it's worth a try to see how my body reacts and, who knows, maybe I'll be lucky after all? It's so expensive in the US, and so far away, and they aren't too friendly considering the amount of money you're paying...
On the other hand, I'm afraid that Cyprus just doesn't have great stats, so I might be wasting my money on a totally useless cycle that I could have otherwise put towards a second cycle in the States where they've got better labs and more girls come back pregnant...
I wish it was easier *sigh*
Really good luck that you'll pick the right one for yourself!!!
SoFull, time is NOT your friend here. At 40 you are already going to have a great challenge ahead of you and I think it's madness to go anywhere but the best place when the deck is already stacked against you.

Do you think this is 110% so for places in Cyprus that aren't regulated???
I would trust HRC on unused embryos but it was unregulated clinics that I question so keen to hear was it HRC you are referring to with consents forms etc or all clinics... thanks :-)

It would definitely be true for any clinic in North America. I'm not familiar enough with the legalities in other countries so it would probably be best to confirm policies with your chosen clinic.

Yeah that's what I thought, thanks for clarity.
I'm not sure there are any reliable legalities in unregulated countries

FOH - if I was 39 with not fab pre testing - I would go straight to the best of the best (whatever that is!)
I'm yet to do my pre testing but I'm 36 in oct so could well need to adopt the same approach

This is a total lottery so would you buy two lottery tickets at £10 each or 10 at £2. Only you know which suits you better.
I'm inclined to buy 1 x £10 lottery ticket and see how I go. I can always buy a £2 ticket if the I feel I need another test cycle... so hard...
Thank you, I hope we both have success. But who knows... x

Just had a chat with my husband and he made a good point and I will share in case it may benefit you.
We have never been through IVF b4 and his view us start off somewhere you feel in good hands, somewhere you totally trust as you are 100% in their hands. Once you have done a cycle, you will be able to challenge more, have more knowledge and know what r expect so maybe then, if needed look at a cheap option but dont start there...

Completely agree. That's what I did at least. I chose the best, and now for a second cycle if I have to go somewhere else I have an idea what I'm dealing with, how ER is, idea about the meds, tests, etc. Would be more comfortable asking for things that I know I may need.

Yeah I hasn't never thought of it like that, but he is right. I feel so in the dark about this whole progress so best to go somewhere that is regulated and that has good results and hope that I can trust them
