View Full Version : Girl sway questions

Hello!
I hope this is the right place to put this, it's my first time posting. I have two awesome boys and we've decided to have a third child so I'm doing whatever I can within reason to just up the chances for a girl. I have some questions and hope someone can give me some reassurance that I'm going in a good direction. I started in very early June with the le diet and were thinking of ttc sometime in September. I'm trying to make this more of a lifestyles (temporary) change, so I'm thinking of only using the fitness pal app for another week or two and then less worrying less about it. I'm probably worrying too much with all this anyway, which is what I'd like some reassurance on so that I can relax into it more.
-speaking of relaxing... I'm sure everyone is different, but what's the best attitude to have- I feel great about swaying because I'm honoring my needs and don't feel like I'm doing anything too crazy, but then I also catch myself feeling negative often, thinking like "this won't even work anyway."
-I'm still in the process of weaning my 18 mo old from breastfeeding. We're down to 2 or 1 a day, and I'm wondering if it's at all beneficial for me to keep the once a day for a while until or through ttc.
-related to that, I've been eating the max calories fat and protein within the limits because of breastfeeding and also because I was already at my lowest adult weight after breastfeeding this time around and running around after my two boys. Either way, breastfeeding or done, I'm a little confused at how many calories I should be doing when I add in walking / cardio 4-6 times a week, considering that I'm still losing weight currently with this diet added in and I just started a few weeks ago. If I need to stop or slow weight loss (with cardio and BF or just with cardio if I'm still losing weight too much) do I up the calories, fat, and protein or just calories? I am 5'5" by the way and 146 lb which is the lowest adult weight I've been.
-does it matter if the time of day for exercise is the same every day? I'd like to think I'll do 6 times a week for 60 min but if it ends up being 3 or 4 is tnat still beneficial or is it then into boy land?
-I've been allowing small cheats on the weekends if we're at families houses and I just try to skip snacking and skip breakfast still, I just stay within or around the limits and have small amounts of the biggest offenders. Some things that feel like things I used to eat a lot of... I'm a little unsure about because of that, but I'm still within the limits--- like yogurt (fat free versus whole as before though), red wine, chocolate, cheese (within limits for all of this so that's probably less than I ate before, and before I smacked often)... bananas, Amy's veggie burgers (they have basically just veg and oats?), soy sauce ..... so these things make me feel like I shouldn't eat them at all because they feel like "me". I can switch to lighter alcohol if it matters- any other thoughts?
-coffee- I love, I'm glad to drink lots of it now and it helps me skip breakfast which was definitely something I never ever did before. And I ate eggs basically every day before. Anyway, I just do coffee with cream no sugar. How much cream is okay? I don't want to undermine the sway because it feels like a big feat to me that I'm able to skip breakfast (it's not as crazy as I thought!)
-in the past, OPKs have been confusing for me and given me two positives and all that- I've bought them to test out in the coming months for this sway but if I end up getting confusing signs again, should I just do E4D? If the OPKs work fine, then how often should we have protected sex leading up to the try? I would assume just whenever or like every few days for sperm health but ... what if one of the times bumps right up into the OPK day- is that bad?
-is having an orgasm still a bad idea?
Thank you for your time!

Thank you for your time!
Me again! I just also wanted to add that on most regular weekdays I find it hard to reach the 1800 calories I set for myself bc of breastfeeding - I basically only feel like I'm hungry for two meals but because we eat dinner later and because of it being hard to get enough calories in two meals I eat three meals around 12, 3 and 7. But even then I'm using wine and candy to reach the goal and I think each day I'm not really fully making it to 1800 calories- so maybe with weight loss and breastfeeding and potential exercise I just need to make sure I really get 1800?

Yep, you need to be super sure you get to the 1800 or even more. Very important!

:agree: with dropping MFP after a couple weeks - once you get the general idea, no need to track any more.
:agree: I only mention relaxing to prevent people from treating their sway as "Swaymageddon 2017" Not because I want you to forcibly relax. Just be sure you're not so stressed about relaxing that you are undermining yourself.
:agree: breastfeeding - personally I'd have you continue, even if once a day. I do think it sways pink. But the benefits may last a while even after weaning so let what is best for you and your family take precedence
Up cals from carbs mostly but if you have to fudge a bit on pro and fat to do this, it's ok
Whenever exercise works best for you is when you should do it.
Eating within limits is never cheating, and even cheating is allowed on LE Diet for three reasons - your sanity, social situations, and to give your body a chance to get some extra nutrients as it needs them. It makes it WAY easier to stick to the diet most of the time to allow cheats and it sets you up to fail if you do not let yourself ever indulge that way.
Coffee - as long as it's a tablespoon or so that's all good (even two) That is 50-100 cals in 1 to 2 T, little to no protein, and that will be quickly burned off. what I don't want people to do is have huge lattes with 2 cups of milk in them and call that "coffee."
Yes, it's fine to do e4d or even e5d instead of one attempt at positive OPK. If you do decide the OPK are working for you then you can do whatever in the early days - some choose abstain (if hubby under 35) or daily release or regular release every 2-4 days or even just letting him do what he does. If one of those protected releases ends up coming up on O Day it may cut odds of conception but it won't sway blue.
Orgasms - I have an essay here http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/27912-o-no-orgasms-swaying.html This is one of those things that we have seen results all over the map and while I doubt it can make or break a sway, most people do like to keep it in the mix.

Thank you so very much for your time and response atomic! I can't even believe you responded to me, I've spent a lot of time reading on this site, and it's like you're a celebrity. Thank you. If I have any more questions as we go, is it best to add them here or post a new thread?

Whatever is easier for you! The only place I miss questions is in the support threads (the ones that are like 50 pages long and are the swayers cheering themselves on, simply because they move so fast) - but I will check back with most threads otherwise. So post where it's convenient for you. :)

Hello again!
I have another question, and probably more, but I've been trying to search and find answers to things as I come up with them instead. Something I would like to know more about though, is OLE / Licorice Root. I know you can't advise whether my husband should take it or not, but what have the stats for that been showing? Which is better? My husband is 33, and has a corn sensitivity, so he is actually currently working with a naturopath and taking some herbs and such to heal his gut (like L-Glutamine and Turmeric, also Nystatin because his stomach yeast levels were high-- sorry if this is all TMI)... so I know he won't be so keen on taking something else that may mess with anything. I did find a corn free OLE, and so if the stats are great he would probably take it. What is it actually meant to do that sways girl?
thanks so much!

Hi! Jumping on this thread because it is helpful the questions you asked but also because I probably drink 5 TBS of coffee creamer in my cup of coffee. Im always with in my calorie limits but do I need to stop? Im not sure i can choke the coffee down without it. Should I switch to caffinated soda instead? I do enjoy coffee with creamer

Hi Muddyrose,
I have two boys about the same age as yours. 2013 and 2015 (early 2013 and very end of 2015 though). Good luck and thanks for reading my questions.

Well, we can't go off the stats, that's the thing. Big trends jump out but some things get very tricky in the stats (because the men who use them may be more set for pink or blue than the general population and this skews our results).
LR has gotten disappointing results of late. But on paper, biologically, it ~should~ sway pink and before about 4 years ago, both here and on IG got seemingly good results with it. It's something I never use for men with poor sperm health (who may be more set for pink) and I tend to drop it early on (meaning that people who get pregnant with it are highly fertile and have not been on a sway diet as long - both may sway blue). So I am not yet convinced that LR is bad for a pink sway, not even close, but it just isn't getting represented in our stats.
OLE has seemed to get good results, but no one has ever had any explanation about how it works (honestly, we don't KNOW what it's meant to do, there was a doctor in Australia that had some theory about it but no more info was ever forthcoming) And it's the opposite situation as the LR - only people with poor sperm health or older men (more set for pink) have been using it, and then I also eventually have couples switch over to it if they don't get pregnant on cranberry for a while. So again, I'm not convinced that OLE is even doing anything at all beneficial to a pink sway regardless of what the stats appear to say.
That having been said, LR is meant to be good for the stomach and OLE is taken by people to get rid of yeast sometimes so it may be something to run past the naturopath to see if they could benefit him anyway.

As long as you're within cal limits and you have that with a meal then it's fine.
Please don't switch to soda, coffee has gotten great results for us.

Thanks so much atomic! I'll have him ask about both. It's one or the other correct? And so should he be taking cranberry?

No. It is Licorice root OR peppermint tea
AND
OLE OR cranberry.
The LR is fine with either OLE or cranberry. But he shouldn't take both OLE and cranberry, needs to be one or the other

Hello again! I'm getting closer to the time when we would TTC and I have some questions.
I used OPKs for the last two cycles to try and see what's up for using them for real in the future. The first cycle, I caught ovulation, and the second cycle, that just now ended, I missed it because I didn't check for long enough. It ended up being a random super long (44 day) cycle as opposed to my usual 35 ish days so I know I missed it. My question is, should I just do E4D when we TTC next month then? Or, is it better to try and catch it again, knowing that I could potentially be testing for 20 days while I wait to make sure I catch it in a long cycle if that happens. If we do E4D, should it be every 4 days--- Like, Do it Monday and then again on Thursday? Or, with 4 actual days in between? I'm a little confused on that.
Also I know with orgasm there is an essay, but I wasn't sure if there was any new info about like.... if I am doing it every 4 days for a while, it would be hard to avoid that every time, so does it matter if I don't avoid when we're sort of at the start and end of the E4d cycles? Does position matter anymore? And all unprotected right? (If E4D)
Lastly, I am sort of just wondering if there is a general opinion from anyone about what they liked about LE diet and lifestyle, what they kept after they were through with it. I'm always sorting through in my head with things I like and would keep, and things I wouldn't keep, because I do like the weight loss and want to go back to that someday, but obviously there are things that feel a little extreme to me to include in the future as a lifestyle non-swaying.
I hope this all makes sense! Thanks for your time!!

Whether or not to go to e4d is largely up to you. I would like to offer a compromise though (that will help alleviate your confusion)
Most people do e4d not for a sway tactic per se, but to boost chances of conception. They've already tried one attempt at pos OPK and didn't get pregnant that way, and want to up their chances. These people tend to do e4d on Monday/Thursday. But you can also do e4d as an actual sway by stretching it a day Mon/Fri or even more in between to be sure you are in with one true attempt. Some people have even done like e6d or once a week, and it's fine to do that when you're just starting off, to see if you can luck your way into conceiving.
The rule of thumb I follow is this:
If you want best odds of conception, then have your attempts closer (but no closer than Mon/Thurs for now!) and if you want best odds of pink, have them further apart (e4d in the Mon/Fri pattern, or even e5d, e6d, e7d if that's what appeals to you.) There is not any magic to having sex every 4 days, no right or wrong way to do it, it's just an easy trick of being in with regular attempts that are far apart enough to hopefully not sway blue.
I really don't think the orgasm thing is a big deal, and nor do I think the positions matter. Every blue sway opposite (those who tried for a boy, but got a girl) in the books was done with female O and doggy style. These things just can't really matter.
E4d is usually done unprotected although there are some people who will use it as a frequency strategy - protected attempts every 4 days and then one during the fertile window, but the way you're thinking of it, yes it would all be unprotected. :)
Your final question is intriguing - may I ask you to start a new thread? It will get a lot more responses then here at the end of this thread and it is kind of a fun thing to speculate/discuss. I still do a lot of things differently based on changes I made during swaying and I know many others do as well. :)

That's a great solution - thank you! Thanks as always for your time and kind replies. It's hard to get away from feelings of doing the "wrong" thing, and so I still contemplate just checking for pos OPK but with differing cycles and only two cycles having tried OPKs without being sure what's going on...it's probably best to do one of the compromises you mentioned. Plus that takes away any frequency concerns for DH. I also obviously want as much pink as I can but I also want to get pregnant fast because otherwise I know I'll start to slip too much on the diet.
I'll do another thread about the post-sway details- thank you! Can't wait.

Back with questions after BFN this first month trying. I still have four days until my period is due so it's still possible, but based on my previous two pregnancies I think it's just negative this time.
We did E4D, with three days in between, so for example Monday and Friday. I also used an OPK and did catch it. We BD the night before positive OPK. So then we went back to whenever we wanted as far as a BD schedule because it didn't matter after positive OPK. Is that correct? So now I am not sure whether this next round we should just wait for positive OPK, or do E4D with two days in between (for example, a Monday and then a Thurs)... and stop after positive OPK if I catch it this time again. I do sort of want to increase the chances of pregnancy this time because with the holidays it'll get harder for me to stay on the diet and keep up with the exercise.
Speaking -- a couple of things I am worried about going off the rails with:
Exercise- I've been walking 4 days a week for 60 mins and I think it's becoming too high impact because I've created this lame foot injury. So this week I haven't done much. Is it okay to skip the week? I probably shouldn't drop it all together right? I've been either walking outside or doing cardio videos at home and it's all s boring for an hour, also it's getting colder out, so I'm thinking if I must, I could join a gym and do a bike or maybe elliptical so as not to be so much impact on my toe/foot?
Vacation- Next weekend, my husband and I are going on a 4 day mini trip. I was hoping that at least if I was pregnant I could eat whatever and whenever I wanted... it's a foodie type place! I've avoided meat and eggs this whole time with the exception of a few small chicken pieces here and there, and never any snacking or breakfast. So for our trip, where should I let go? I may have to eat breakfast, and may have to cave and choose eggs or meat sometimes for meals, so, should I just try to mostly remain vegetarian and not snack still? Or would it be better to skip breakfast and then have four meals?
In general I've become more comfortable with the LE diet so I feel like I'm cutting myself slack already, but I think I'm just living it as a lifestyle rather than tracking now. So it feels reckless! Just don't want to derail because of vacation and not getting pregnant the first month and losing steam.
Also, my husband does cross fit... can that hurt our sway somehow? He's not likely to stop because he loves it ... I wish he loved cycling instead!
Thank you!

Also wanted to add that I've lost over 10 pounds in these months on the le diet and now I'm not really actively losing anymore so I'm sure any slack in walking or when on vacation will add a pound or three. Do I want to be actively losing?

No. We originally thought that might help but instead have subsequently learned it's time on diet overall and you do NOT need to be actively losing weight when you conceive.

Well, I would suggest sticking to e4d even after positive OPK because it is entirely possible to have a false pos OPK and have a delayed O, and then if you ovulate in a week after you just had intercourse 3 times that is not going to give you best chance of a girl. Additionally, if your O was delayed and then you didn't happen to have attempt around true O, that's it, you're out for the month!
I would go to the Mon/Thurs. frequency this next month and continue with that after you think you've ovulated
Yes take a week off and pick back up with exercise. For best results I'd not drop it, just start again when you're ready.
Most people find it's easier than they think to keep going with diet while on vacation. It seems like a treat no matter what you're eating and so while I strongly urge you to relax and eat whatevs and not try to stick in LE Diet range, you may find that there are noms that work better than others. So you have a luscious fruit bowl for breakfast and shrimp for lunch and chicken salad for dinner or whatever and you've still done pretty well overall but it still felt like you were splurging.
It's not reckless, that's where you want to be with your sway. The people who track everything and never relax are the ones that end up with boys anyway. Remember we are trying to emulate what millions of women do without even intending to - they just eat stuff and don't sit around thinking about it much and then end up getting girls.
While Crossfit may possibly raise T levels, we honestly aren't even sure if T levels in and of themselves even do anything (by T I mean testosterone LOL). Since we know jogging and biking do sway pink (as shown in studies) I would assume that Crossfit may too.

As always thank you atomic for your quick and super helpful responses. I appreciate what you do!
You're totally right with positive OPK and then delayed ovulation. That's definitely happened to me before so I don't know why I got so wrapped up in finding a perfectly positive OPK. We will do e4d mon/thurs style til AF next time around. Now hopefully this time wasn't a delayed ovulation or I'm going to have a confusing next couple weeks!
And thank you so much for the other tips too. It really helps me to keep moving forward. I know what you mean about vacation and splurges- I think I can do fairly well choice wise and then splurge sometimes- breakfast at all just seems so wrong. We're going to Montreal so I know there will be some types of pastry, egg, or cheese/meat choices that I can't pass up. We probably won't go on another alone trip like this for a while! And we've never been to Montreal. Anyway, thanks for the support, I'm excited to make good choices but also live and not worry about it. That's sort of what I've been doing anyway. So thank you, again.

Hi! Thanks we had an awesome trip! If there is any way you can reply to this tonight that would be awesome— I just got a positive OPK, second time this cycle, and we BD two days ago in our E4D pattern on Monday night. Now it’s Wednesday and I don’t know if maybe we should BD again tonight because this is month 2 of trying. I don’t feel like it’s likely that the sperm are still left in there from Monday, but, I don’t want to have two attempts necessarily either - I just thought I had already ovulated and was probably not pregnant and thinking about things to do as I try to continue to sway and keep it up longer than I sort of anticipated. Thoughts? Thanks!!

If we wait and continue E4D pattern then it would be tomorrow night so that could possibly work too. Confused!

Update: we decided it was the right move to just BD last night at positive OPK. So that was Monday and then Wednesday. We figured there are so many factors, and felt the need to try to get pregnant ASAP before I lose steam with the diet and exercise routine. If this month is BFN, should we continue with just E4D, or do the E4D plus one at pos OPK? I ran out of enough OPKs this month anyway so I’m deciding what to do next. Going forward, I actually feel pretty confident that I can work out how to deal with holidays and cheats and factoring things into the day so they’re not even cheats. But it’s the exercise that I’m unsure of. I was walking but it’s cold and super dark in the mornings now, so I just figure it out in the house whether that’s a YouTube video or dancing with my kids for an hour. Only 4 days a week I manage that. Sometimes 5. So I might have to join a gym. And I’m not sure it’s enough but I know you’ve said 4 can work. If this month didn’t get pregnant, are there things I should do in month 3 to up the odds a little? Diet wise? I’ve lost about 12 lb total and am still losing but very slowly now so I’m sure over the holidays I will gain a couple. I also have cycles that are about 38 days sometimes a little more or less, so it’s a “long time” to wait to start again.

Sorry to keep posting here, but update #2, I got another positive OPK today. Usually I see them drop right off after I catch a positive OPK. Anyway, we will stick to our regular E4d and BD on Saturday which I’m sure will be out of the window anyway but now I’m thinking we could’ve/should’ve just went with tonight instead of last. Gah!

I would have had you decide anyway. These things I cannot know and when I can't know, you have to make the decision.
yes please keep going with the e4d also. That way in case this is a false positive you will still be covered.
Just keep going with 4-5 days a week exercise. It's been SO much better than couch potato I want everyone to exercise as long as they can get at least 4 days in.
No need to join a gym, just keep doing what you're doing.
There are things we can do to up odds, but not having to do with diet. If you give me a rundown of what you did I'll tell you what to tweak.

Gah!
Don't sweat it now, for all you know this is God/the universe's way of helping you have a successful sway.

Thanks so much! I like your mindset.
Checked again today and negative OPK so that was definitely a window. If this time wasn’t successful, then next cycle (and from now til AF as well) we will keep doing E4D. Is that what we should do until it’s been more like 6 plus months of trying? This will be month 3 the next time around. I’m not doing much that I would see as things to take away, but let me know where I could or should tweak or if you need more info.
- LE diet (since June 1)
-skipping breakfast
-no snacking
-coffee (lots)
-alcohol probably 3-6 times a week
-cardio (of dancing around, you tube videos, or walking) 4 days a week
-E4D method
Is there more about the way I’m doing the diet or what I’m eating that you would need to know? Not doing jellies or antihistamines or taking anything besides folic acid, not worrying about sodium, it could be possible that I’m not getting enough calories in these days, but I know I’m at least hitting the goals I need to for fat and protein, and not really doing jump and dump, I usually do that anyway but I don’t immediately run to do it.
So I guess that lead me to thinking the only things I could really do to get pregnant faster would be to alter the BD strategy, maybe I should go to once at OPK and even if I get two in a month just do it those two times? Then I would have a couple questions about that too- like the whole frequency thing which is currently nicely taken care of by E4D and I think my husband (and I) like that aspect. But I don’t know if you’d recommend that anyway- switching to once at OPK positive - seems like more of a direct way to get pregnant? I had seen something about adding in eggs etc to diet but that could be for after miscarriage or after an even longer period not getting pregnant.
Thoughts?

You can do e4d as long as you want to. Whenever you're ready to boost odds of conception then add in an additional one attempt at positive OPK while continuing on with the e4d before and after that one attempt. don't go back to one attempt now.
Eggs are fine. 4-6 a week
In terms of boosting chances of conception I'd not change anything - I would have had you drop those things if you were doing them but you're not!
