View Full Version : HRC on Monday! Any *pink* advice for DH?

My husband is going to HRC on Monday to freeze sperm ahead of us *hopefully* booking my solo trip to California next year for IVF&PGD for a girl.

Does anyone know whether it would be better for him - sorry for the bluntness - to abstain for a few days before going in for his appointment, or the opposite..

He has refused to take any supplements, but has upped his soy intake a little/dropped the red meat for the most part. He's a light drinker (maybe 2-3 beers a week)
He's out with his military buddies tonight which means a couple of beers, but after that should he also stop drinking alcohol between tomorrow and Monday, or would the odd beer be OK? (He's there with work, so will be client entertaining also)

Thank you x

I would follow HRC's instructions! With IVF, you do not want to do anything to reduce fertility!

Hmm, they haven't sent me any instructions so far...

perhaps that is because I haven't locked in my own dates? so far we only have the sperm freeze booked...

Do NOT do anything to "sway" when going IVF. Swaying pink is all about lowering fertility, but in IVF you want to get absolute max results - the most eggs fertilized by the best sperm - and then you play the 50-50 game and hope you get some of your DG. All you accomplish "swaying" is lowering your chances of IVF success!!!

OK, got it! Thank you :) I guess this is the time where it comes in useful that he was never into doing any swaying stuff at all.

I'm so nervous/excited/terrified my stomach lurches every time I think about it...

Check with hrc but my memory says only every 3 days. Release that is.

Well...... the deed is done :nails:

I can't quite believe we even got this far, my husband was really not keen but went ahead and kept the appointment to make me happy. I'm very grateful to him.

Hopefully I'll get to travel to HRC next year for my part in this crazy plan. I think this is our only shot... I'll have just turned 32, I just hope it works... I can barely sit still with nerves and anticipation... how on earth will I bear the wait?!

Thank you for the ongoing support x

Hi Californiadreaming. I'm intrigued by your husband going there first. Just a question. Does it decrease sperm quality with freezing? I plan to go to HRC this fall but if my husband could go first to freeze it would be 100% better since we have 2 little ones at home. Thank you.

I have no idea on that to be honest. We don't know whether we will be able to afford to all go next year, so as a bit of insurance, my husband popped in when he was there for business last month. Now we have total flex over all going (if we're feeling minted) or just me, depending on finances/air-miles etc. For me, it was more about just making it happen ASAP. I'm sure Dr Potter has commented somewhere before that it doesn't make any difference, so that was good enough for me. Good luck! x

With ICSI they can always find some little trooper to inject. You don't have to worry about sperm quality so much like you do with IUI, they can make do with less. Tons of kids have been conceived with frozen sperm!!
