View Full Version : Ovulation on clomid

I think I am causing myself stress unnecessarily (at least I hope!) but I took clomid 50mg 3-7, I'm now on cd11 and we started bd on cd7, doing e4d. I have taken ovulation tests for the last 3 days and today I had a bit of cm so hoped it might show positive but it actually looks lighter than the previous 2! I'm worrying myself I won't ovulate and wishing I had just stuck to e4d and not done opks at all. Also worried incase I ovulated on day 7 or something and we missed it with the first bd. First month on clomid so not quite sure about how it will affect things.

Anyone who's taken it can share their experience please? Or Atomic do you have any words of wisdom? I don't know why I started doing them I feel like I'm becoming obsessed and for a pink sway it's the last thing I want.

I've never taken Clomid but I know OPKs aren't reliable when on it. Just stick with e4d if that's what you were told. Good luck!

Englishdame I'm on cd11 too. My opks are also negative. Don't worry. You cannot ovulate right after last dose of Clomid. It is usually 5-10 days after the first last pill. Do you track BBT? I think this is reliable and I look at my temperature every morning.
Have you already had ovulation problems?
I had some cramps two days ago but right now none of symptoms.

EnglishDame
July 26th, 2017, 04:25 PM
I don't have ovulation problems that I know of I'm taking the clomid for swaying purposes, although I do have pcos.
Are you taking it for swaying purposes too?
I don't track temperatures I wouldn't even know where to start to be honest!

Thanks for the response ksmom I've heard that too but thought it was more likely to be a false positive and I've read a bit that says as long as you wait for 3 days after the last pill (I read that after I started the opks though!)

Englishdame I take Clomid only for swaying purposes, I was pregnant twice two months ago but miscarried. I conceive very quickly and without any problems. This is the first month of Clomid.
I think you should doing e4d pattern and don't worry about opk tests because it is very stressful and not reliable.
Good luck!

Englishdame I've been doing opks too while on clomid also and haven't gotten one single positive opk. So I'm just relying on prayer, temping, and e4d method as next month if I haven't conceived, the opks are going to a brand new home.

Hi English dame just stick with the every 4 days because opks can be very stressful to use when taking clomid and if your covering yourself dtd every 4 days you don't need to worry and are in with a chance of conceiving. I used them my last time on clomid but won't use them this time just too much stress! Good luck!

EnglishDame
July 27th, 2017, 06:31 PM
Thanks pink! I'm just so worried I won't ovulate and every negative test makes me feel worse. I'm on clomid for swaying purposes so no reason to imagine I won't ovulate, I have regular periods. I'm not going to do tomorrow's test because if I don't get a positive for my surge on cd13 I'll panic! Think I'll just keep with the e4d through to bfp/af

I took clomid for swaying purposes and you will ovulate on it! Stop using the opks they aren't worth all the worry and panic just keep attempting every 4 days and your sure to get a good attempt in. hows the diet going?

Hugs englishdame, even with those dual hormone clearblue it would only give me a high reading never the peak reading! Don't beat yourself up! Are you temping? It just let you see that you are ovulating, and so far has let me know when af is approaching. Hoping this month it will tell me we finally caught our egg instead. We are all in this swaying for a girl together. I only have one more dose of clomid left it stinks so really hoping we just conceive this month, but who knows.

Thanks mommy2apples, I only have one more dose of clomid too but if I don't fall this month I'm not sure whether to use it next month as if there's another reason I'm not ovulating like I've lost too much weight then I don't want to waste the clomid!
I'm not temping I wouldn't have a clue where to start tbh! Is it too late to start now?

Mommy2apples
July 28th, 2017, 09:05 AM
Ideally most do the vaginally, because it's more accurate. So would start when you are only spotting on your af and take it every morning at the same time.
Set an alarm so you can take it at the same time. Even if it's way before you wake up, then you can go back to sleep, that's what I do most times after temping. The idea is to have at least three hours of uninterrupted sleep, sometimes I don't get even 1hr of uninterrupted sleep. It'll still give you a baseline and idea of if you are ovulating or not. I mean you could start now. I started in the middle of a cycle my first time.
You will have to ask Atomic her take about the clomid or even xxhubby is great for knowing about clomid. It's definitely the clomid keeping us from getting an accurate reading on our opks.

Hi English dame the clomid still stays in your system and works the month after you have taken it so don't take clomid for your next cycle use it the following one and it means you will get the benefit of using it if you don't get a bfp first cycle. That's what I'll be doing. Have you lost much weight? Try to stay at a good weight where your cycles won't be effected it's better long term because you don't want to start having to add blue friendly things to your diet.
Try not to stress over ovulating just keep attempting every 4 days and hopefully you are lucky and catch the egg! Good luck.

Feel your pain ladies!

I've bought loads of boxes of OPKs and found it really hard to get a positive on the simple stick ones until I discovered I never get a positive anytime other than the urine after my first morning Urine with the simple stick ones and even then I have to really restrict my fluid intake (no coffee too cos that makes you want to oee) and I have to hold my pee for at least three hours
Never got a positive or even dark line aftermidday

Last cycle I was on femara and before that I was on clomid and found that they definitely do mess up the cycle a bit.

With the dual hormone OPKs - if you're using clearblue brand,
It states that you must use the first morning urine (or after yourlongest sleep)
I've also read comments that for a lot of people, peeing on the stick doesn't work, it only worked for them if they peed in a container and dipped the strip in.
Hope this helps cos I've told atomic before that OPKs are the bane of my life but the dual hormone one has been good so far

Btw... atomic also told me and you might see some of her posts that temping isn't ideal for girl sway cos all that stressing about taking temp can undermine your sway
Plus if you have young kids like I do who like to come into your room in the middle of rhe Nighr which means disrupted sleep, that changes your basal body temp
Just some food for thought...
fingers crossed for all of us [emoji847]

Englishdame I want to tell you that today I have also negative. I'll keep using opks and write you when I will have a positive. Btw, I always have positive but it usually is about cd17-19.
Chiengr, I agree it could be stressful. Although, I am temping because I have to know if I Oed and if my LP is not too short.

I just wanted to chime in an add my experience with Clomid and opks.

While opks did work for me on Clomid, I know several people where opks didn't work at all to detect their surge or they stopped testing too soon and missed their surge.

What I did, and recommend, is to BD either E3D or E4D all cycle long. If you chart, you can stop BDing once you have confirmed with 3 high temps in a row that ovulation has occurred.

Hang in there! This TTCing business is hard! 🤞🏻you all get your BFPs soon!!

Thanks so much girls! I won't be buying any more opks but think I might phone my doctor on Monday and see if they will book me in for a day 21 progesterone test, just to check I've ovulated. The only thing I'm not sure of is how that will work because cd21 is a Saturday, they don't know I've got clomid either.
I could also buy a day 21 progesterone test from oxford online pharmacy but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Does anyone know? It says you get the blood sample from your finger. I just want to know I've ovulated before I take clomid next cycle.

I would expect to have ovulated tomorrow at the latest as my usual cycle is only 25 or 26 days.

You will ovulate. The odds are sky high of that - I can count on one hand the number of people I've worked with who did not O on Clomid. :)

Your tests can go from lighter to darker normally, that's no biggie, but to further shed some light on what is happening, you can get positive OPK (FALSE positives!! I mean) for 3 full days after stopping Clomid. So if you were on CD 11, and have been taking OPK for 3 days - that means that you were still in that window of false positive OPK after taking Clomid!! So no wonder you were getting dark tests and now lighter ones - that is NORMAL!! In fact some ladies like to "test out" their false positives (so their tests go from pos back to negative) so they can be sure their real positive, when it arrives, is the real deal!!

Additionally, it is next to impossible (literally never happened that I have seen) for people to O through the Clomid. The soonest you generally will O is 5 days after your last dose (and I can count on one hand the number of people who actually DID O on that day, most have Oed later than the 5th day!!). You almost 100% cannot have Oed on CD 7, it's just not biologically possible because the Clomid prevents that from happening. :)

AAAAAA NO NO NO do not do this!! Your cycle will NOT be the same on Clomid, and your "21 day" test may not even be after O!! YOU DO NOT NEED to know if you Oed, just keep doing e4d!! I PROMISE you, nearly everyone has ovulated on Clomid and the handful that didn't (I can literally count on one hand) one of them had major fertility issues to begin with, another was starving herself, that kind of thing.

Hi Caroline,
Do you have boy or girl after Clomid?

Remember, ladies, it is entirely possible to get boys and girls on Clomid. Our great results with Clomid were with an otherwise thorough pink sway and NOT just Clomid alone. In studies, Clomid alone was shown to sway about 3-5% across the population.

Oh that amazing news Imama! So happy for you!!
I did a test yesterday morning but it was bfn :( I don't know when (or actually if) I ovulated so I'm not sure how many dpo that was. I'm feeling really disheartened but I'll test again tomorrow or Friday and keep you updated.
Would love to be joining you on the due date boards! Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months!!

Don't give up and keep testing [emoji171]
Clearblue test was also negative but I took another one and was super faint and almost colorless line.
I'm so exhausted and don't feel good: dizziness, nausea and also intensive lower back pain (it travels to my legs as well). I hope everything will be okay because I worry about another m/c.

I did another test tonight but still bfn :( feel so gutted tonight! I don't even know when to expect af, my usual cycle it would be due around Friday but I'm assuming clomid could change that?

Hope you feel better soon Imama! I'm sure it's just baby stealing all your energy! Must be so lovely to see those 2 lines! Really pleased for you :)

EnglishDame it could be just too early. I took test at 9dpo and it was really hard to see the line. Look at my test:

Atomic, can Clomid change also hcg level? I have high betas after 48hour: 460%! 9dpo 5,4 nad 11 dpo 27,4.
Or indicates that twins?

In my non expert opinion I don't think clomid would change hcg levels but I think that's amazing baby is obviously doing well! From what I've read it *can* mean multiples but sometimes they just go up fast! :)

No. Clomid does not effect HCG. HCG is only produced when you're pregnant from the embryo and then placenta.

A few in isolation are not enough to predict twins. Ironically, the pregnancy where I had the highest level- 23,500something at 21dpo, was with my DS3. This time I conceived twins but one vanished by 8 weeks, my Beta at 21dpo was only 8,000something.

No, but I have seen plenty of people with sky high HCG levels and having only one baby (and normal ones having twins) so try not to panic about that. Huge congrats!!!

Atomic it looks like I'm out this month, pretty sure af is on her way. The last 2 weeks nearly I've pretty much given up my sway. I gave up coffee because after previous miscarriages I didn't want to be overdoing caffeine just incase, I gave up excercise and the diet too. My diet has been so blue and been eating red meat a lot. Feel so stupid to imagine we'd just fall first time. I haven't had a problem getting pregnant before (although I've had a problem keeping them sticky) but now I'm worrying because since then I've been diagnosed with pcos and also because I didn't have a positive opk (last one I took was cd13, if af comes tomorrow that's a 26 day cycle)
What should I do next month? Skip it and sort out my sway? And also maybe get checked to make sure I'm ovulating and my luteal phase is long enough?

I don't want to waste my last month of clomid.

Not yet, just a little spotting. Every day since Friday morning I wake up feeling like it's coming though so I'm assuming the witch is on her way and clomid has just made my cycle longer.

Let's wait to see when your period even comes.

I think this is worrying over nothing. I'm not saying that yes, you are pregnant and don't worry for this reason, but your LP is not even shaping up to be short, nor is your cycle!. As long as AF comes, and after having taken Clomid it's very likely that you have ovulated and AF will come (or you'll get BFP) then we can count back and you'll see when you likely ovulated. Stopping OPK on CD 13 means if you ovulated later than CD 14 you may have missed it, OR you may have had a false negative on the OPK. :)

If you would like to take a month off Clomid that is fine, the effects may last through the next month so that may stretch the pink sway effects a bit more. Totally up to you.

Are you continuing on with e4d?? If not, please do. if your O is very delayed you may not even have ovulated yet!

Thanks Atomic, I took an IC late last night and it was negative. I've been back on LE so will see what we decide when af comes, I woke up with bad cramping last night which I never get before af but I've heard it a lot with clomid so maybe the witch will come today.

Thanks for all of your advice it's invaluable x
