Due to my husband's travel schedule we have only really been able to dtd about once a month. If we are trying to conceive this month, will sperm quality be poor with the less frequent release?? We are trying for a girl.

It might but it will be good for pink anyway.

Please don't read too much into the "poor sperm health" idea. Abstain doesn't work well for us and since it doesn't work well, I heard of a hypothetical risk and thought "well, it's not working anyway, let's not even take the chance, no matter how vanishingly slim it is". It doesn't mean "OMG if you ever do this dire things will happen every time" because that isn't true. It's just why bother taking even a small theoretical risk for something that doesn't work for swaying? But plenty of people have "accidentallied" there way into having an attempt after a long abstain.
