View Full Version : Tips for Getting Baby Anterior

Baby girl is right sided posterior, which I was told is good if she decides to descend into the canal before turning. However, I'd like to see if I can get her to flip over. She is almost on her side, which is good for her to flip. Here is what I've been doing daily anyway:

Pelvic tilts, cat and cow, downward facing dog, squats, and low inversions with my chest resting on stacked pillows.

I also naturally sleep on my left side with my right leg on a pillow over my left leg that is straight (I was told this is the best way to help encourage her to flip).

Any other suggestions? My DS3 was not in the ideal position to flip because he was on my left side. He couldn't tuck his chin under and didn't flip until pushing, which sucked major ass!! Try having your baby flip as your pushing him out- need I mention the rotating shoulders [emoji30][emoji51]! I feel if I can survive that, I can survive this if she doesn't flip in time! At least her chin will be tucked, but it's the damn shoulders rotating that make me shudder!

Thanks!

With DS3 I think what helped was crawling around on my hands and knees a lot (gives you a chance to scrub the floors while you're at it too  ). It creates a sort of hammock for the baby and encourages baby to have his/her back against your tummy. I also always made sure my knees were slightly lower than my hips and legs apart while sitting. I often sat on a birthing ball to help with that. It just helps to keep your pelvis open for baby to engage and also encourage proper positioning. DS2 was stubbornly posterior and he didn't rotate until just before birth. My midwife did try using the rebozo scarf though. Have you tried that? It's basically taking a scarf or long piece of fabric and wrapping it around your belly while on hands and knees then gently have someone rock the scarf back and forth. It didn't work for me but I know a lot of midwives swear by it. Worth a shot! Also look up psoas muscle release on spinningbabies.com. I have tight muscles on my right which makes turning for my babies harder to do. You may be tight in those muscles as well.
Hope one of those tips helps!

It's funny you mentioned being on all 4s. My DS3 has been dumping letter magnets all over our family room floor, and I crawl around while we pick them up together. He likes to try and catch me, haha!

I too am tight normally on my right side due to my scoliosis, but I found out that is not the case anymore. I guess all the Yoga and stretching I've been doing has helped tremendously! While I don't have as much rotation as I do on my left (I never will without surgery), I'm not tight anymore.

I'll keep doing what I've been doing. I've pushed out a baby that was rotating before and survived, so worse case scenario I'll do it again, haha! Hopefully she'll turn first though 🤞🏻!

mine all start out back to back and then turn sometime before they are born (they come out the right way up haha) except for #5 (DD1) she stayed back to back and shot out face up :D i really dont think there is much you can do to be honest, im fairly sure my babies need to be posterior in order to fit through my pelvis, then they are able to turn if they want to/have time too!! i just accept that all the pain will be in my back rather than at the front

doing all your exercises cant hurt its good to be mobile :) all 4's is good for giving them space to rotate but babies are clever and no matter what she will sort herself out :) and come out whichever way is the best fit for her, though that shoulder thing doesnt sound fun for you :(

so exciting not long now!!

Thanks 4b2p! All of mine have turned the right way too when they could with my DS2 being at the last minute, haha! You're right- some things are out of our control. All we can do is try, but they will do what they need to on their own time.
