View Full Version : Best way to monitor ovulation

I have very irregular cycles And I'm beginning to feel like trying to sway for blue isn't going to work for me because I never know when I ovulate. What is the most accurate way to know what day I ovulate? I don't really like BBT - too much stress and hassle for inaccurate results. Cervical mucous confuses me too, it seems to kick in when my body is trying to ovulate ans then again a week later and then again later. I've began to monitor my cervical position (tmi?) but I'm not sure how accurate that is? What is the most accurate sure fire way to know when your ovulating? Is swaying for someone like me - having irregular periods - a lost cause? I'm feeling down about it. I've always had to take provera to get my cycles going semi regularly but it's so hard to figure out ovulation day when I'm on that because it adds 10 days, and I never know what's going on. And I think it also suppresses ovulation. I've been on clomid and had my third baby girl with that. What do I do?

You don't need to know when you ovulate to TTC a boy. Timing doesn't sway anyway. Please don't feel down or discouraged, it is totally possible to sway blue without tracking ovulation. I never did and got 4 boys that way. :)
Have you ever tried OPK strips?? That's what most of us use.
Do you have PCOS?? We would tweak your diet accordingly to possibly even correct for your irregular cycles to some extent and then with the OPK tests you'll be able to know exactly when to have attempts for a little man.
Don't bother with mucus and cervical position, too unreliable.

I guess I'm just stuck on timing because it worked so well for my mom. She timed it all out and got exactly what she was hoping for each time, for 7 kids. But she has regular cycles. I've tried timing but I don't think I get it right because my ovulation is so sporadic.
I have tried OPK strips and the smiley test, I did that last time and tried to time for a boy but I was on clomid. And I was only swaying using timing. The only way I even knew my fertile window to know when to use the strips is if I'm on clomid becauae I know I will ovulate within the next 2ish weeks.
I don't have PCOS. My body is just weird and has not a clue what it's doing. :/
So how would you suggest going about swaying? I'd like to incorporate timing but I don't know how to under these circumstances. Im open to changing my diet, but I might have to take clomid and provera to get things going again. I really don't want to though. I know it decreases the odds of having a boy. I want to start trying in the next few months, so I have a little time to figure things out. I would love your help!

Well, I understand that there are tons of people out there who think that timing worked for them but unless they had a doctor telling them when they ovulated neither they nor you know if they even ovulated when they think they did. Most babies are conceived in about a 3 day window meaning that it is entirely possible that a person could O a day or two early or late, still be having fairly regular cycles, but have hit an entirely different timing pattern...like they think they BD on O day but it was 2 days before, or they thought they had a 3 day cutoff but really BD right on O. There is just literally no way to know and when doctors and researchers used modern technology to pinpoint the actual day of ovulation they found 50-50 boys and girls conceived from sex on every cycle day. We also know for a fact the mistake Dr. Shettles made and why his claims cannot possibly have been true and have been totally debunked and you can read that here https://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/7691-trouble-timing.html
What I would have you do is follow the variation of diet in this thread for people with PCOS. I understand you don't have the syndrome but sometimes people have weird cycles because they have a tendency towards PCO without having it all the way. You want the version for blue swayers, 5 from the top. https://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/9052-swaying-under-special-circumstances-part-3-pcos.html

I keep seeing an "HT" diet option on the PCOS diets and can't seem to pinpoint what it stands for?

I wouldn't underestimate the affect diet can have on your sway. I have not yet conceived a boy but I can say that my diet and lifestyle before DD1 and to a lesser extent but still true for DD2 was straight out of the girl sway textbook. Am working on changing things up in pre sway mode now.

Ok so I've gone through and made a rough plan for types of meals I should be eating and can see myself actually enjoying to get me on track.
Breakfasts :
- eggs and cheese with iodized salt and banana
-oatmeal with berries, full milk and walnuts
-full fat yogurt with berries
Lunch:
-whey protein shake(I usually drink the Kirkland brand) with spinach and banana mixed in
-sweet potato and brown rice
-any dark meat or beef with avacodo and fruit (any except apples?)
-salad with eggs or meat, sprinkled with cheese, and fruit on the side
Dinner:
-beef or dark meat with any veggies or salad and fruit other than apples
Salmon twice a week
-baked potato bar with meat cheese and sour cream
-chicken rice and veggies
Snacks:
-Greek yogurt with berries
-celery and peanut butter with dark chocolate chips
-carrots
Popcorn with nutritional yeast flakes and butter on top
-fruit except apples
-full fat cottage cheese
-Kirkland brand whey protein bar?
Cook with coconut oil
100 oz of water a day. Aim for 2000 calories a day
Trying to cut out refined carbohydrates and sugar is going to be so hard for me. I love those kinds of foods. I live off of them and don't eat much protein. Probably why I have 3 girls?
How does that plan look? Anything on there I should avoid or replace with something else? Do I need to start this ASAP or is it something I need to start just a month or so before ttc?

HT means blue swayers that may possibly go "high tech" - do IVF for gender selection - in the future but haven't decided yet. I have the swayers who may do IVF in the future follow a modified diet so they have best chances of successful IVF in the future if they decide to go that route.

It is looking great to me - try to get in protein and carbs even in your snacks and if you can't, if you do end up having something sugary it's ok, just be sure to eat again within an hour or so after that to avoid blood sugar crashes.
For blue swayers we seem to have best results with 6 weeks or more on diet.

Hi MiaMelB! When do you plan to sway? I think we were on a similar timeline!
