View Full Version : Insight into my chart? Is it too inconsistent to be accurate?

So I tried temping this month, just because I'm a control freak so why NOT add one more thing for me to stress about? But of course, FF has all but screamed at me because my wake times have been so inconsistent (my toddler is my alarm, and she isn't always consistent, either). Additionally, I have had some nights where she woke me up in the middle of the night -- MOST of the time I'd say I still got in the recommended "three hours," but thought I'd mention this.

But are my temps too inconsistent then to count for anything this cycle? I had a dip and then spike, which I read can be very clear indicators of O before the three days of elevated temps after being the next confirmation, but then today (the second day), the dip dropped again. My pos AND peak OPK all were the day of the dip, as well.

Added details: I always have watery/EWCM, so those aren't big indicators of anything for me although DH even asked the day of two attempts, "Are you ovulating? You're insanely wet." Any spotting on my chart post period/chemical pregnancy (which I had, as you can see from the waning HCG tests I noted) was from my hysteroscopy with polyp/tissue removal I had last week. I JUUUUST stopped spotting the day it seemed like I needed to start BDing if I wanted an attempt this month. A pelvic ultrasound last week also saw follicles growing at normal rates, with one on my left ovary large enough to be suspected to O right around now (when I usually O).

I do tend to have cramps and tingly nipples around ovulation, which I'm having, but the cramps are less "O" feeling cramps and more residual cramps from my procedure, I think. Nipples could be my DD chewing on them for our one nursing session a day :bfinfant:

So today's temp was taken at 6 a.m. (though FF keeps thinking it was 8 p.m. for some reason...).
CD 18 - 7 AM
CD 17 - 5 AM
CD 16 - 7 AM
CD 15 - 7 AM
CD 14 - 4 AM
CD 13 - 4:45 AM
CD 11 - 5:50 AM
CD 10 - 6:25 AM
CD 9 - 6:30 AM
CD 8 - 6:45 AM

So what are your thoughts? Is it not worth considering these temps because I was so inconsistent? Or was I consistent enough? Would it be worth dropping the real outliers (like the 4/4:45 AMs) to get a better read? I already dropped a 1 AM and 9 am reading.

Here is my chart with the inconsistent wake times (varying by more than an hour or two in either direction) taken out:

I used to stress a lot about times- until I realized it really didn't matter. As long as I took my temp right when I woke up (before chasing toddlers, cleaning, eating or drinking) I could get my chart pretty accurate. The actual time I woke up didn't matter, if that makes sense. Ip

Yeah, I can't really draw any conclusions from that. What you might want to try instead is just picking a time of day to temp (in the night, not when you wake up). A lot of the times the results will be more subtle but still you can discern the pattern. Or like Greydore says some people it doesn't really matter if it's the exact same time or not (but honestly with the seesawishness I kinda suspect you are not one of those people LOL)

I know some people are large into the "dip/spike" but I swear I have seen SOOOO many people mislead by that, I just can't recommend it to anyone in any kind of dicey sitch - waking up a lot, etc. I see people who have had like 5 dip/spikes in a row and then people who never get a dip - it's great when it works out but I just can't hang my hat on it.

I'd definitely be attempting if hubby thinks O is nigh. I sometimes think an observant DH is better than an OPK.

So I got 3 attempts in within 36 hours, plus another attempt this morning, all based on my slightly updated chart.

I'm really anxious I MISSED my window now. I thought a pos OPK would mean I'm about to O, but some other charting forums had someone say my O might have been CD 17 -- so the day OF the first dip?!

We do EOD/SMEP type sex always, but of course this was the month I had to wait for my hysteroscopy spotting to stop before we made a go -- which was RIGHT at O maybe?

You're absolutely right on my wake times though. DD woke me up at 4 after me wakong up at 1 and 2 for her and I took it and it each time, always being low.

Managed to get 3.5 hours of sleep and take it at 7:30 which is more my norm and it was the highest one yet!

I think it was later than that and that you were in with well timed attempts. :)

Throwawaypanther if it helps, although I think the day after positive OPK for O is the most common timing, that isn't the case for everyone. For me, I've been charting about four years (started way before ttc), and I've noticed that I almost always get the temp rise three days after my first positive OPK (meaning I O two days after the first positive OPK). I've also read there are even some women who get the positive / peak after O. Everyone is different. My understanding is that O can be anywhere between 12-48 hours after first positive OPK. Of course the best way to know what your timeline tends to be is after charting several cycles to discover your pattern. So, you may not have O'ed the day after your Peak. I usually don't.
