Hi ladies, I am on ttc stage but wasn’t sure on best place to post this random question.
Did anyone have uterine atony in previous birth (when uterus doesn’t contract leading to blood loss). I had this with my previous birth following a planned cesarean section for unknown reason. Due to having loss of feeling from the spinal I was unaware that I was bleeding until it was thankfully noticed by a nurse. It took some time to stop, it was 7 years ago but from memory it was stopped by giving the same gel that is used to induce labour.
Has anyone experienced this before and is there a higher chance that it will happen again since it previously happened? Didn’t happen with my first child who was delivered by emergency cesarean. I’m guessing my chances of vba2c will be out the window 😂

i haven't had this happen to me but because i have had a lot of babies it always gets brought up as my "biggest risk factor" for delivery, this time i was toying with the idea of trying red raspberry leaf tea tablets because they are supposed to help tone the uterus but i wasnt feeling 100% comfortable with taking them (im nervous about meds in pregnancy) so i changed my mind until i saw my midwife who told me she 100% wants me to take them this time from 34 weeks to hopefully ensure things are well toned in there and able to shrink down quickly once baby is born.
my cousins wife had a massive haemorrhage after her 1st baby due to atony, 3 years later she had her 2nd baby with minimal bleeding (both vag deliveries) so it doesnt mean you will have it again but i would guess your risk is higher :(
**please dont take red raspberry leaf without first asking your midwife or doctor as im not sure if they would be safe to take due to previous c-sections, im not really convinced it does much :-/ but if it does tone things maybe it could be a risk to your scar?
im sorry i cant be more help i hope you find some better answers!! i just thought id chime in with what my midwife has recommended to me this time to try and prevent this exact problem, good luck with your ttc journey and i hope you dont have to deal with this problem at delivery again :)

Thank you so much 4blue2pink. Actually strangely enough I took raspberry leaf with my second pregnancy as I was trying to prepare myself for vbac but sadly I didnÂ’t go into labour at all leading into the planned cesarean since they wouldnÂ’t induce. After the op I took the shaking reaction from the spinal which scared the life out me as I knew nothing about it ! Then after getting over that was suddenly surrounded by nurses saying My bed was saturated from the atony. They all dealt with it amazingly well, I was in no pain and didnÂ’t know what was happening so I never really thought about it again until now. To be honest at the time I wasnÂ’t aware of the possible dangers but now that IÂ’m preparing to go through it all again IÂ’m reading about the dangers and hoping it doesnÂ’t happen again. I guess as a positive they will be prepared for it prior incase it happens again and IÂ’ll be checking for signs of it rather than laying oblivious to it.
IÂ’ve read lots of great things about raspberry leaf, I hope it works well for you 😊

the key is that they will know in advance this time and can prepare for it. That is the biggest way of preventing it from happening again in the future.
