Hey all
For anyone who may not have read some of my other posts...my cycles were all over the place. I ended up conceiving this month on CD 29. I got a faint but positive result 9 dpo. I tested again on days 10, 11, 12, and 13 dpo which all got darker. I skipped a day and decided today on 15 dpo to take the last test in my box. It came up with a faint faint line like my first test 6 days prior.
I assumed a chemical was in the works. I'm pretty positive that will be the result but I decided to go out and buy more tests just incase. On only a 3 hour hold and probably my 3rd pee of the day only having coffee in the AM I took another just to confirm that the line was hardly going to be there again and that wasn't the case. It came back darker than this mornings maybe almost compared to 2 days prior, maybe a little lighter.
To see if it was just the test I dipped my second test in this mornings cup to see if it was just a hpt issue. That came back extremely faint. This cups fmu was pretty dark in color from not drinking much water last night and not using the bathroom all night. Not sure why this afternoons would be darker or what to think but any advice or previous experience would be so helpful right now.
My drs office scheduled me to get my blood drawn today and friday to check but I wasn't going to go if the test this afternoon was still light. I would have just let nature run its course. Now I think I'll go just to see.
I'm incredibly tired and very positive this post is all over the place so I apologize!

Hi,
I don't really have any advice to offer, but I just wanted to send you a hug.
Somehow everything seems worse when you feel tired.
I've been trying to keep myself positive with reading various books and listening to meditations. I love reading quotes. One that I often come back to is:
"Never give up,
Miracles happen every day"
Good luck.

I'm sorry, how frustrating. The darkness of a line on a HPT isn't the most reliable indicator of how the pregnancy is progressing. That being said, I think your test was suddenly so dark because your pee was very concentrated from being dehydrated. Also, two tests from the same box can have varying levels of sensitivity so one test may detect as little as 8 mIU while the other detects as little as 15 mIU. The way these early tests work is they have to test at minimum usually around 25 mIU so that's why some can detect even smaller amounts. If your tests are getting lighter then it may not be a good sign (hopefully I'm wrong). I had something similar happen with my first loss. I got a BFP around 9 or 10 dpo and my tests around 12 dpo were darker. I tested again around 15 or 16 dpo and the line was barely there. I really hope that doesn't happen to you though and it's a sticky one. Hang in there.

Thank you ladies. Ksmom, I believe the same thing that happened to you will happen to me. It just threw me for a loop to get a darker line in the afternoon. I was worried my lutueal phase was too short to sustain a pregnancy when I realized I ovulated so late and looking back on my previous cycles. Now to figure out how to fix that.

How long is your LP?

I don't know exactly because I don't temp. I always just used to go with the flow of my body to know when I'm fertile, ovulating, etc. It worked avoiding pregnancies and it worked when trying both times right away so I assumed I had a good idea of what was going on. I've counted 10 days from the day of my worse ovulation pain (which I now know is not an indicator of that actual O day) to the day I end up getting my period. I read 10 days is the minimum to sustain a pregnancy. I'll never know what this cycle's would have properly been because I never ended up getting my period but ovulating on CD 29 was pretty unexpected.
I did a 4 hour hold again after testing at 11:30 and my 3:30 test came back pretty strong. The 11:30 and 3:30 test look very similar to my cd 13 FMU test, if not a smidge darker. So confusing. I did end up getting my blood drawn but will have to repeat Friday and won't get results until early next week unless something happens at home before then.

10 days is just fine for a LP. Really even 8 or 9 is okay as long as baby implants before then. It's when it gets down to 7 that it really becomes a problem. Since you're not temping though there's no real way to know your actual LP.
Hopefully you hear good news back from the doctor.

Hi Blushingbaby,
I had the same thing happen to me with DD#2. I was a POAS crazy woman especially since I had an MMC and a chemical before I got pregnant with her. Anyway, I searched online everywhere for answers as to why I had darker lines earlier and lighter lines later in the cycle. I came across something very interesting and it basically stated that the further along you get into the pregnancy the HPT tests can’t handle the amount of HCG in your system so they get lighter for some weird reason. Try this.....take your most concentrated urine and dip it, look at the line and if it’s light add a little bit of water to that same urine sample and then dip a new test and see if the line is darker. I did this and it worked! I was so shocked! I hope this helps and wishing you all the best.

That would be wonderful if that were the case. I'm just not sure if my levels would go that high so drastically? Two days ago my test line was a bit lighter still than the control line. I'm also only estimating to be 4w1d. Thanks so much for your insight!

:agree:
The tests can dance back and forth in lightness just from variations in the concentration in your urine. I don't think you're out yet!

those are natural variations for that gestation.

Hi Blushing baby,
Just wanted to give you some feedback because I had something similar happen this time around…. am now carrying a healthy baby girl, 20 weeks along so there is hope!
I did my 1st hpt at 11dpo – faint First response, fainter even on cheapies, but pos on digital.
Tested again on 12 dpo, a bit darker – all good.
But had some bleeding on 13dpo, tests similar to 12 dpo – thought it was all over – but still did my bloods….
Did another hpt 14 dpo (1st response), lighter than 13dpo – definitely was not holding on to hope.
Repeat bloods on 15 dpo, terrible pains..but at the end of the day hcg had doubled – 1st response was not darker not lighter – only a few days later did it become darker (all the 1st responses were from the same box).
It was a grueling week – and tbh, until I had an early scan at 6 weeks, was not optimistic at all… and my 2MU seemed to have been yielding darker results than FMU for some reason too.
Hang in there, I hope you have a sticky bub in there!!! FX!!

Other than that random light test at 15 dpo, your tests look like they're getting darker. That one may have been less sensitive or your urine less concentrated.

In the early days of my bfps, my FMU tests have never been as dark as my afternoon tests with a shorter hold. I can't explain why, maybe it's just the way my body excretes Hcg?! Your tests overall seem to be getting darker so I wouldn't worry just yet.

Thank you! :) I've only been using FMU until today! Just still shocked why comparing all FMU that today's was so much lighter. It's been sitting all day so looks a bit darker but it was VERY light this morning I almost couldn't see it. I tried to tell myself it was the asparagus I had for dinner and that the stinky urine caused a negative test but I don't believe that's actually the case lolol

Another faint line this morning at 2:50am :(. I woke up and couldn't hold it any longer. I also dumped some out and filled water in there as it was suggested earlier and that one did come back a tad darker. I feel like I should be comparing apples to apples so looking at all FMUS in the last week it's not looking good. Thank you again for all of your help!!38182

Thank you. I ended up taking a test that day later in the afternoon again and it was the darkest yet. I'm not sure why my afternoon tests all of a sudden were darker and I wasn't getting dark morning tests? The switch happened around the 14dpo mark so maybe it's a hormonal thing? I got my beta results back from 15 dpo and it was 81. Waiting to hear back what they'll be from 48 hours later. No bleeding or cramping yet so I'm praying it'll all be ok.

Great to hear blushingbaby! Personally from my expierence I just think your afternoon tests were darker because those were the diluted samples. Hope all goes well and wishing you luck!

Thank you for your reply I really appreciate it! I held off testing yesterday just so I could have a break from the worry. Everyone here has been so encouraging! :)

It is just one of those weird and random things that happen. What we don't want to see is tests that are consistently superdark suddenly getting practically nonexistent but when you're at this stage of gestation it can go back and forth like this and it doesn't mean anything.
