View Full Version : Anyone use SMEP and get a girl?

Im entertaining the idea of SMEP. Not totally on board but exploring my options...
Im at that point where after 10 cycles of BFN.. perhaps i need to try, at the very least, a variation of SMEP. The lady behind it got two daughters doing it after all didnt she?
Im slightly apprehensive due to it being more 'blue' hence perhaps a laid back SMEP approach might be a good starting point.. for example leave off the next day / last BD after the 3 in a row.. (or something like that)..
We cant seem to get pregnant again on just one attempt like last year (mc), so although it was possible for us then, its not working now.. We have also done the E4d method and no luck there either.. Im still sure this can happen for us at 40 and im ok to keep going just thinking of other things we could try other than eod which we did to get our boys..
We have not done e3d nor have we done e4d plus one at positive opk - purely because last 2 cycles we had BD day before a positive so left it at that..
Would love to know what (those who have ttc a long time) are doing to ttc in the BD department?! :)

Hi I had no advice but I’ve wondered this too myself! I’m guessing it’s definetly possible if you have strong other pink points so I’ll be following this post with curiosity :)

Just came across this answer when someone asked if smep worked for them on another site
Yes!I used this when we conceived our DD and have just got a bfp first month following it this time around.I also used preseed.
Was pretty much exactly like you and have had pretty much instant success with it both times, best of luck!!
DD! So it was a girl :)

I think it would be better to try E4D plus one attempt at pos OPK. If that doesn't do it then E3D then if you still don't succeed, SMEP as a last resort. Of course Atomic is the best person to weigh in on this. This is just what I would personally do. I know for you age is a factor and you may actually be better off doing whatever you can to conceive. How is your diet? Sometimes women aren't getting pregnant because they're not eating enough.

Thank you, yes exactly re my age, its a tricky one.. Id like to think i have loads of time but i know i dont. Id like to give myself best shot at girl and conceiving but need to find the balance, if there is one!! :)

After 10 cycles yes it is time to do SMEP. Concur fully.
Now, would I have ~liked~ you to have done e4d plus one more first, yes, a couple months ago at the least. But you didn't and I want you on SMEP now given your age and the amount of time we've been at this.

Ordinarly I'd say this but at 40 and with 10 months TTC behind us we need to pull out the stops now.
It's time.

sorry to crash this post, but atomic when would you recommend to start e4d + pos opk? Only been doing one attempt for 2 Months so I wouldn’t even think about it yet but just wondered when you would usually say?

Any time really at your discretion. Most people switch over to this after 3-6mo of not getting a BFP. I started out doing this from the get go as my DH wasn’t keen on having a 4th child yet. I had to make sure he would keep doing what we were doing, if you know what I mean [emoji6]!

I did – though the SMEP was not intended for me to have one, I used in the hopes of upping my blue odds (after already having 2 girls conceived after long TTC periods with Clomid being the thing that finally got me pregnant) – clearly, this missy had other plans and regardless of the HE diet and whatnot, I must be way too girl friendly event though the SMEP got me pregnant super fast (that, or I need to do something major about hubby’s sperm lol).
Hope that give syou hope that it is possible – anything is – so hope you get a sticky baby very soon, pink all the better!
Have all my pink dust, I want no more of it :D

Even with SMEP, you still have a chance at a girl. Having other pink tactics working for you will only help. Good luck and pink dust!

Congrats and thank you for sharing. I guess having two boys makes me 'feel' like im more in the boy zone naturally and doing SMEP will just boost that even more.. but i kinda feel like ive reached my threshold for 'girl friendly' attempts and getting pregnant is the challenge i face not even gender at this point!! :)

Thanks KS, im not all that strict with the LE to be honest, its been too long now. Ive had to loosen up a bit. Ive been pescatarian for almost 3 years (as i do eat fish once a week). I gym about 4 times a week. Dont do any supps (accept folate) and no girly things in the BD department either. Only drink coffee.
On our BFP attempt last year we dtd one day before a positive, shallow release and used Sylk.. Lost it after 12 weeks but that method never worked for us again.. dropped it all and no BFP since!

Im feeling foolish now for not doing the e4d plus one ..Sigh! My DH pointed out last night that although we have been at this forever since MC last year, it took ages for my spotting/irregular bleeding and all that to go away and get back to a normal cycle, which i can safely say i have had back for 3 cycles. Not sure if to say maybe with all the spotting and irregularity i was never in with a shot anyway!.. but then again, these past 3 cycles have not worked for us either and not due to lack of trying.. So i think its all pointing to SMEP at this point i just need to get my head wrapped around it.

Thanks! ;) if you have other strategies in place that are more pink friendly, it won’t hurt your sway that much to try SMEP , it will only help you actually get pregnant – and remember that swaying just ups your odds of one gender, so lots is still out of our hands ;)
if you feel like you can wait a bit, worth doing what Atomic suggested or just a few months which is still very pink friendly and then maybe move on to a “light” SMEP – i.e. drop a few of the BD sessions maybe if you feel it’s too blue friendly but still up the number of BD sessions as compared to what you have been doing so far?

Yes LMSM.. good idea :)... im thinking a semi-SMEP kind of thing.. as you suggested.. i wont do ALL the eod BD attempts but i will deffo do the 3 attemps at +OPK.. its that one you do after you skip a day that is bugging me!!! But that might be what it takes?!!
How did you do yours, if you dont mind me asking??

If you look at my signature, my chart and BD pattern is there :)
https://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/3abf30/
So we did CD 3, 6, 8, 10, 11,12 and 15
That basically gave us an AM BD on O-2, a PM on O-1, and a PM on O day – didn’t manage to do another BD session after O just to be safe but we had BD on one day on either side of pos opk plus the one on day of pos opk…
Still got a girl!

Just wondering.. for anyone in the know!!.. As for SMEP - we BD on wed this week then again on Friday (yesterday)- (that being before a positive and part of our eod method for smep).... TODAY however, i have a positive OPK. SO.. we are meant to BD tonight and the next two nights.. But we dtd yesterday because i didnt think i would get a positive this soon! So should we skip tonight and perhaps BD tmw am and the next 2 nights, or should we just go ahead and do the next 3 nights starting from tonight seeing as i got the positive??... This is our first time doing SMEP.

Actually, unless we just dtd tonight and tmw then we have done 3 in a row (just a day before positive) skip monday and BD again on Tuesday...

there's no right or wrong way. Just trying to be in with some attempts in a kinda-sorta SMEP way
