And so it begins, bfp and hunger pangs! Everyone’s already saying that since I have a “boys appetite” I’m surely having another boy! Any insight on this? I’ve never heard this one before!

There was a study that found that women pregnant with boys do eat more calories than moms having girls. Boys are bigger so require more energy. The study didn’t inquire about feelings of hunger though. I totally get where you’re coming from- I wondered if I was having twins with how hungry I am! I never felt this insatiable hunger with my two boys, so who knows.

I am breastfeeding and pregnant so not sure if that is why I am more hungry. But I do remember when I was pregnant with my son I was hungry too. Not so much with my daughters. But it can be different or the opposite for everyone.

I read about that study, and I feel like that could make a lot of sense later on in a pregnancy, I’m just 4.5 weeks so I kind of thought to expect to be super hungry especially after swaying and restricting calories. With my son I don’t remember feeling overly hungry in the beginning, but I also consumed a lot a lot a lot of calories prior to conceiving him. It’s so strange and totally not what I want to be hearing lol (so hormonal I literally cried to my husband about it!) Greydore are you pregnant now? I wonder if carrying more then one baby could increase hunger, double the hormones!

It’s so strange how much pregnancy’s vary! I had one friend who ate so much in the beginning, then forwards the middle of the pregnancy got sick and couldn’t eat at all, she had a girl! It’s so hard to pinpoint.

The more that I think about it I ate a ton more when I was pregnant with my son. This time around I tracked my calories yesterday and had about 1600-1700. It seems like a lot I feel because I’ve been only having 1200-1300 a day prior due to swaying. With my son I could easily eat over 2000 calories. I guess only time will tell, but these old wives tales are driving me mad lol
I definitely feel like being pregnant and breastfeeding could definitely be why you’re feeling hungrier!

Symptoms do not predict gender.

You're hungry because your progesterone has risen. It makes you hungry and also gives you lower willpower (and this is 100% proven!!)

For some reason people like to say stupid things to expecting women. I assure you that there is no correlation between appetite and gender of your baby.

Prayingforagirl I am pregnant, I’ve had an ultrasound so I know it’s not twins. I’m pretty thin so it might just be my body’s way of packing on the pounds.

I didn’t mean to say that hunger=boy. Just thought that study was interesting, and boys are bigger on average and do cause more metabolic changes in a mother’s body. So it wouldn’t be too weird if even some moms of boys felt more hunger. I definitely don’t think symptoms can pinpoint gender, though.

Everyone is different and if things are debunked just because is been wrong for some doesnt mean that everyone is suppose to think that. Is nothing wrong with looking at wives tales and see what has been right for others. Is part of killing time. Is not like anyone will start shopping for a gender just cause of the OWT. Lol and of course some of these OWT and symptoms might not determined the sex but you never know it might. Once you have your ultrasound then you can determine that yourself.

Um, well, actually people have their hearts broken by OWT all the time and so those of us who have experienced that believe that we are doing people a huge favor by mentioning that they do nothing.

You are welcome to believe whatever it is you want but please don't take people to task for trying to save other people heartache that they experienced. These OWT really mess with people's heads and they DO. NOT. WORK. Even if you think it worked for you, if something "works" 50% of the time that means it doesn't actually work. Even if it "worked" 60 or 70% (which they don't) that would not justify the huge number of people who would end up upset and sad over OWT.

Symptoms and OWT do not predict gender. Period, end of story, I can assure everyone based on 10,000 people coming to me in a panic over symptoms (and my own symptoms) that you cannot tell the gender of your baby on symptoms.

Is not like I am saying oh yeah you are having this based on what you said go start shopping. You really just have something against me dont you? For you to just pick a fight with me for having my opinion.

Atomic was just pointing out that OWTs are just that...old wives tales and nothing more. We see ALL the time pink and blue swayers that get worked up into an absolute frenzy over their symptoms as soon as they pee on a stick and assume they're having an opposite. She's just reiterating that symptoms do not predict baby's gender so that others out there that might read these threads don't think "oh no I'm having a boy because I'm so hungry" or whatever symptom they're having. Yes someone could be ravenous and have a boy but does that automatically make the OWT true? No and that is what Atomic is pointing out. She's not out to personally attack people.

Exactly. If people thought OWT were fun! Happy! Lighthearted! I would never say a word against it but the thing is, I personally was very upset with my 3rd pregnancy in no small part because of the OWT - all pointed girl, but he was alll boy. So I know firsthand that they can really mess with people's heads. And so many people come to me in a panic with their entire early pregnancies ruined because they're so sure they're having an opposite, only to find out they got what they hoped for, or else get their hopes sky high and are sure they are getting their DG (just like I did) only to have their hearts crushed at the ultrasound. So I have very legit reasons to discourage the OWT because they hurt people. Even people who don't even care about gender when they get pregnant are hurt by OWT. And they just don't work.
