Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any remedies for RLS. I'm desperate. For weeks I've only had a couple of hours sleep each night. Falling asleep around 3-4am. Woken up before 7am. I have a 3 year old and 1 1/2 year old. Twitching is in both legs. I'm 28 weeks pregnant. I had a blood test yesterday and I do have low iron, but how long will tablets take to kick in? It's really getting me down and I get anxiety now for bedtime. Any advice is appreciated.

Compression stockings during daytime could help a lot.

I found if I forgot to take my iron for a few days the restless legs came back. I don't think it took long to notice the difference from the iron.
Another thing that can help is magnesium. You can get supplements but there are also creams you cab rub in I think and also soaking in an Epson salt bath can help.

Thankyou purple. Im on day 2 of iron, im hoping it wont take too long. Ive been taking magnesium for a few weeks now but havent noticed a difference unfortunatly.
I will definately look into creams (i didnt now about this) and salt bath (i love baths) :)

My ob put me on magnesium and told me to combine with a banana daily (the potassium in banana is supposed to work with the magnesium) I was very slack at eating the bananas though so while I think the magnesium helped a bit it may have worked even better had I done as I was told and eaten the darn bananas [emoji23] I really feel for you, it is an awful thing to deal with, near drove me insane some nights....

Thankyou everyone, I actually had a good sleep last night so I'm hoping everything is starting to work. Fingers crossed.
I did speak to the Dr at my hospital appointment yesterday about it. There is nothing medication wise that is safe during pregancy.
She suggested to increase iron to 2 tablets, as long as I don't get a belly ache.

If you have issues with the iron tablets then you could try Maltofer instead. This is the one I took as it was supposed to be more gentle.

Thanks Purple, so far so good. YAY!
And they have defiantly kicked in. I've had a huge boost in energy (even though it's a heat wave in SA) and haven't experienced the restless leg syndrome for a couple of nights. Whoo hoo

Glad you are feeling better! I feel for you with the heat, I know I struggled this time last year! I'm in SA too :)

Bumping this because I'm slowly going crazy and sleep deprived from this issue. I know I'm not deficient in iron or magnesium, though I started taking extra mag to see if it helped (probably going to stop since it's already giving me the loose stools since I'm not deficient!). Does anyone have any non supp recommendations? And I shouldn't worry you were all having girls when you posted in here, should I?! :nails: (though I didn't have it with DD!)

Have u heard of the Relaxis pad?? I was just reading about it on an autoimmune site a couple days ago. It's some sort of vibrating pad you can put under your sheet and it helps with the restless legs that a lot of AI patients get. I just looked it up and you have to have a prescription for it, for some reason, but it may be worth looking into.

Definitely not just a girl thing as I had this really bad with both my boys. Just starting to be bothered by it this time around at 21 weeks (don't know gender of this Bub yet) so keen to hear of solutions and hope you get some relief from it soon TP

Thank you both! I'm going to look into that atomic, although I'm so desperate I'm considering using a fun "adult" product under the sheet if it's the vibrations that do the trick! Kel, thank you! Yeah, this started right around 20 weeks for me since we're so close in gestation! I didn't even realize what was happening until I googled "feel like crawling out of my skin" and "legs feel weird at night; pregnant." I feel so bad for never taking this condition seriously. I don't know how anyone does it ALL the time, nonpregnant!
