Hi all! I have been looking all over this website for several months thinking about having a girl. I have two boys, one is 2.5 and one was born to heaven 11 months ago (at 34 weeks, fatal diagnosis). So to say I have a lot of feelings about ttc again is an understatement. My husband and I would really love a girl--but we ultimately want a healthy babe of course. My oldest is my mamas boy, and he is also our "gender ultrasound opposite"--we found out with him we were having a healthy girl at the 20-week ultrasound. Good pregnancy and no more ultrasounds, and then our little boy was born! Thankfully I really didn't have any gender disappointment after he was born, was thrilled and in love and just had to redecorate the nursery;) but i do have lots of precious girl things in storage i'm itching to use.

So I want to sway, but really want to concentrate on a few things I can do and not tons of different strategies to stress over (yes, this is my boy-mom, anxious tendancy). Have a couple of questions and really just wanted to get any opinions and introduce myself, hi!!

I am 34, husband is 36, and planning on ttc starting in April, possibly March. I am on an antidepressant and synthroid generic (had radioactive iodine in my teens after being diagnosed with Graves Disease) and have a super stable dose.

Plan (for the last two weeks):
-Regular Low Everything Diet--Overweight from two closeish pregnancies. Had lost about 10 pounds in the last 6 months and still have about 25 to go. Been on LE diet two weeks and have lost 4 poundsish. Staying right around 1500-1600 cals. Limiting meat but it's hard--my husband is a big Paleo guy (he's lost about 50 pounds over the last 4 years and is in great shape), but we've decided we'll do several vegetarian dinners per week.
-Walking about 6 days a week, 45-60 min. In the past I have done strength training off and on, but my nightly walks after my son is in bed have become a highlight the past few weeks (and keep me away from night snacking)
-Taking folic acid, 1600 mg
-Coffee drinker and have always been--have several cups in the morning with a little milk and usually one in afternoons (and occasional decaf in evenings:)
-Pretty much eating 3 meals a day (or two and a snack), and trying to delay breakfast but I've always been a breakfast girl, eating as soon as I can! About half the days I eat at 7 am (previously ate at 5:30) and skip lunch and have early dinner about 5 pm. This is a work in progress but I have stopped snacking!
-Have a nightly glass of wine (switching to white, but red's my fav)
-My husband has quite a large sex drive, so our compromise has been when we start ttc, we will do the trying every 4 day thing (and not worry about opk), and I will "help" him frequent release in between.

Anything big or obvious that I am leaving out that we should add to the sway or something we should concentrate on? I feel like this is pretty manageable. It took us a year to conceive my oldest son at age 31, and a month with our angel at 33.

Questions--
-Should I consider the PCOS type diet (or other alternate diet) since I have higher weight to lose? I'm going to try to add in a little more high carb veg to replace the quickburn stuff because I feel sooo tired on this diet. Is that normal? I'm definitely getting enough cals, but definitely embracing the eat-what-you-want within the limits (ie, more junk food than i'm used to)
-How important is the no-prenatal vitamin? Or could I take one a few times a week? I'm taking folic acid 1600 mg. It feels so counter-intuitive not to take one after a loss--I"m trying to logically wrap my head around it.

I want to make this as simple as I can, while still feeling like I gave it my best shot for a girl, and be at peace if we end up having another precious boy. Appreciate any thoughts:)

I am so very sorry for your loss

Yes I want you on the PCOS-type diet absolutely. Not only will it be better for you, but it will be better for your sway as well. :agree: Whole grains, fruit, and veg instead of all the white carbs.

All you need to do is push breakfast back a bit! Don't worry about what others are doing, just do what will work best for you! It's still a change from when you got your boys.

If you prefer we often compromise on the prenatals for those who just can't drop them (totaly your call, of course!) and have you guys take them 3x a week instead So if that makes you feel more comfortable, by all means.

If you prefer red wine that's fine. We have had good results with all alcohol. When we first started this little experiment we assumed all nutrients swayed equally but have subsequently learned over time that it's mostly calories, protein, and fat, plus fortified foods and that the tiny differences in things like red vs. white wine really don't amount to any difference. :)

Don't get me wrong I love all the white carbs but that makes sense. Thanks for your reply.

I know, it is easier to stick with the white carb version of diet, but if you have PCOS or any tendencies that way you will be better off doing the alternate version! :)
