View Full Version : Ovulating TWICE?!!
TTC5
November 8th, 2011, 05:10 AM
So the crazy POAS addict in me was released this evening. For some reason I felt the urge to do an OPK and I got an almost + WTH??!!
See my chart in my link, I definately did Ovulate and my CM today is really white and creamy.
I have pics if anyone wants to see!!??
Am I ovulating again 3dpo or is it true that OPK's can go + if you have conceived?
I know my tests faded out because I watched them (and this test was done not long after a subsequent wee, I tested with only a few mls... something told me to test :poas:
And now it is very very close to a + again!!!!????

I read on that POAS site that OPK can turn + if you are pregnant.
I've also heard that people can O twice but it's rare.

Releasing More Than One Egg
Occasionally a woman will release a 2nd egg within the same cycle. This normally happens within 24 hours of the release of the 1st egg. This is why it's smart to keep having intercourse for 1 to 3 days after suspected ovulation in order to conceive.

Yes I have heard it too but 3dpo would it show then? I tested with opks up until yesterday and they were - and now this evening it is really dark!!!!!!

Not sure about 3DPO.
Very confusing.
Do you feel l like you are ovulating ? Any EWCM or cramps or anything?

POAS says
So an OPK will turn positive when it detects either - ovulation or pregnancy hormone.

I have had fraternal twins with DD2..... uh oh.... and we DTD unprotected yesterday too thinking we were safe!!! I just assumed my twins were from releasing two eggs at the SAME time but maybe it was days apart... or maybe I am UTD.. ahhhhh it is either one or the other hey?!

I don't feel like I am ovulating no not like I felt 3 days ago anyway! And my CM has clearly shifted to creamy lotion like.

A pos opk could just be lingering LH from a long surge, it would likely be too early to be picking up hcg as that isn't produced until after implantation which happens at 5dpo at the earliest.
Multiple ov ALWAYS happens within 24hrs because after you have ovulated once the progesterone rises and it stops all other eggs maturing.
Last cycle I had 5 or 6pos opks in a row but ovulated on the second (i think) and have seen other similar charts on FF too

FX for 2 boys for you then hun if you do conceive again good luck.
It's going to be a long 2WW and I bet it's going to feel like ages until your first scan so you can check and see if it is twins.
Will you be able to tell from your HCG blood test from the levels?

First of all, if it isn't totally positive, it isn't positive.
All that OPK tell you is the presence of the hormone in your body. So there are two possibilities at this point IF you had an actual positive, which it sounds like you didn't, really.
1)you had a fake o and your body regrouped and tried again
2)you released a little blurp of hormone that the OPK picked up on.
They are both equally likely...if I hadn't seen your chart I would say number 1 for sure, but you did def. have a temp rise. Personally, I think that since the test isn't positive, that is a negative test and you don't need to worry about it. Your body has naturally fluctuating levels of these hormones all the time and that is why the directions say to disregard tests that aren't darker than the control line.
It's too soon for OPK to pick up pregnancy hormones. 3 DPO is too far out for twins.

Hmmm...not totally sure I believe that. I actually have a woman in my family who got pregnant with fraternals about 3 weeks apart. She actually birthed one baby and went on to birth the second baby 10 days later:)

Because your body released a little batch of hormones for some reason. The tests don't "know" whether you ovulated or not, they just pick up the hormones.

It can't be though, not this far past the first ovulation. Either the first O was fake or this is just a tiny surge of hormones that the test is picking up on (not a BFP though because it's too soon for that.)

I have heard about this and not even the most expert experts agree as to whether this is possible. Remember the gal who supposedly had twins one who was conceived like a month into her pg? Some experts believed that the smaller twin simply had IUGR and the babies were conceived at the same time.

From what you have described, it does sound like a really strong LH surge. I had a strong surge during a cycle when I was TTC my 3rd and it lasted for 4 days. I had EWCM for 2 days and had intense O pain for a few hours on day 2. My opk was + for 2 days after and my Cm was wet and watery but no stringy EW anymore. I'm pretty sure that I had O'd on day 2 of the + opk's. I think you have such great chances for this cycle TTC5:) :HH:

wow this is interesting lol your chart shows you oed a couple of days ago, opk just picks up lh surge so you can get positives and not be ovulating thats why they recommend you to temp with opks, and I have read about how it is very rare for a woman to ovulate a couple of days later and even rarer to ovulate while pregnant (they say but they could be wrong sometimes they guess at things just because they feel like they have to have an answer instead of just saying I dont know lol) either way I hope you get your little boy :)

I agree.....Do yours usually get any darker? Mine are quite a bit darker than the control line while O'ing. They stay that way for 12 hrs and then fade out but.....I can still get a line like yours days before and days after. I personally would call that test +. I would think that you are more likely to have a test like yours, days after, if you had a nice strong surge....so I'm going to put some positive thoughts out into the universe for your boy!!!!~~~~

Go with your gut. Do YOU feel healthy? Do you think this one test tells you that you have an issue? Probably not. I'd say you are most likely totally fine and you will have a baby by next year. Yes it would have been nice to get some answers today. If you are getting bfn's later this week and you go back to your regular doctor ask her if you can have blood drawn to check for luteal phase defect/hormone imbalance. That was something i just read about today here - http://peestickcrazy.piczo.com/progressionofopktoovulation?cr=1&linkvar=000044 You might be interested to read the last entry on this page and see what happened to fallenangel32.

TTC5,
In Sept, I had a cycle that I had pos OPKs (and I do mean the test line was darker than reference lines) for 9 days striaght after ovualtion! I thought I was going crazy, that my body was screwed up. I still do not know WHY it happened, but it just made me very stressy and agaited. So, after I get my first LH surge now, I stop testing OPKs cuz it drives me batty. For some reason, I just have extremely long LH surges that show up on pee sticks for a long time afterwards. Practically the only time I don't show + OPKs is right after perod and the few days before the first real postive OPK.
/hugs
I dont know why doctors are such shit heads sometimes....I never had a temp rise last month and didn't I ovulated and my doctor said "well if your cycles are 28-29 days regular, you are ovualting" I pointed out how my temps didn't rise and he said he dosn't believe in temping! GRRR
was hoping he'd give me some clomid "just in case" hehe, but that didn't happen...he was a complete bear about it
