Is it a good idea to eat 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon before going to bed? I tried it at lunch on my apple slices and in my coffee but really my blood sugar crashes like crazy 😝! So thinking of taking it right before going to bed so i don’t feel the hunger.

Hi Veggiemom what mg were the cinnamon tablets you took?

NO. Cinnamon is not right for everyone, or even MOST. I want only about 3-5% of people using cinnamon for exactly the reason you mention. It's super strong and will make you have extreme blood sugar crashes. Only people with severe PCOS or more than 30-50 lbs to spare should be using cinnamon. Even for them, 1/2 teaspoon may be too much. for those who MUST use cinnamon, I want you to start off with 1/4 teaspoon during the FP and then drop back to 1/8 teaspoon during the LP and then gradually wean off.
this is TEASPOON not spoon full or table spoon. A teaspoon is a very small measurement. Cinnamon is strong stuff and it takes only a little to lower your blood sugar.
Use only ceylon cinnamon and not cassia cinnamon.

Eek ok I’ll stop. I was taking them sporadically - it’s Ceylon cinnamon . Haven’t experienced any effects when I have used them but if you think it’s best not to I’ll cut them out :-)

See, here's the thing, Deer - you actually HAVE PCOS, right? So you ~may~ be in the group of people that can take them, but when I see one person say "oh yeah I was taking those" (and BTW taking too much) and then all of a sudden people are asking them what dose to take, I really must insist you guys wait for my response, if that makes any sense. These things are not candy, even when something sounds relatively harmless, like cinnamon, when you take it in medicinal quantities, it has medicinal effects, including making your blood sugar so low that you will faint, making your blood really thin, and drug interactions that can harm your liver and kidneys.
If you give me a rundown of what you are taking already I will tell you if it's ok for you. :)

Look, I know cinnamon is something we eat regularly but you guys don't realize how small an amount is really in something like a cinnamon roll or whatever (but it's dangerous enough so the EU has even started regulating pastries to be sure people don't get too much cinnamon in one roll!!). The amount I have you guys take is a fraction of the amount in the capsules and the reason I do it this way is because I saw sooo many people having side effects from cinnamon capsules!! Not because I"m a big meanie that likes to sit around thinking of things to scare people with, it's because people (myself included) DID HAVE side effects up to and including passing out and bleeding and bruising from cinnamon capsules.
Anything in excess - sugar, salt, even oxygen - can be harmful if you get too high a concentration. And cinnamon is definitely in this camp. Just by lowering your blood sugar too far it can make you pass out (this has actually happened to people) and if you pass out and hit your head, or pass out behind the wheel of a car, yes, you absolutely can die. If you pass out when you're taking care of small children, your children could come to harm. This is not even getting into the blood thinning effects, the potential harm to your liver, and side effects we don't know about yet.

The Ceylon has risks too though. I just want you guys to understand that. I only want people who have severe PCOS or a significant amount of weight to lose, and who are not on any other sway supplements or medications to take it!

Thank you for the warning atomic, i totally believe that’s true because I’ve expierienced that once i was going to pass out in the street i saw everything black for my eyes and since then I’m very careful with that stuff...so yet im thinking to take it before sleeping time.

Yes exactly that has been what people are reporting to me and what I had happen too (I tried taking it for helping with weight loss). It's really strong.
If you don't have insulin resistance, cinnamon will make weight fly off. Plus there are other side effects that I haven't even gone into. It is not a good idea for anyone without insulin resistance (meaning, those with PCOS or more than 30-50 lbs to spare.)

Hi, wow haven’t caught up on the other comments on this thread yet but just wanted to reply to this and say thanks Atomic. Yes I do have diagnosed PCOS (though it’s not classed as severe). I’m taking myo inositol and folate and fibre. I bought Ceylon cinnamon (think it’s 2000mg one a day) and have occasionally taken it before lunch. Experienced no effects whatsoever. Happy to keep it in the mix or to drop it. Not taking anything else. I did buy antihistamine and thought I’d use it on day of attempt but have scrapped that now and am just using good old alcohol. So, to cut a long story short my other supps are: myoinosol, folate, fibre and wine. Thank you! And apologies for fanning a cinnamon fire

I would not recommend cinnamon for someone with BMI of 22. That is barely any weight to spare before you are at BMI 21, which is where I want everyone to stop losing weight and start trying to hold steady where they are at.

No, I'm glad you did, because I know there are Facebook groups and other places treating it like it's no big deal but I'm just one person, I can't go around everywhere and police the swayers of the Internetz and so I appreciate the chance to allow at least a few people to read about the risks of it. I feel somewhat responsible since i was the one who started the cinnamon notion years ago and it was before so many of the risks were known and also before I saw it messing people up firsthand.
I would have you stick with the diet changes and myo before adding in the cinnamon, which you likely will not even need. YOu are a skinny PCOSer, right?? I just think it will be too much of a good thing for you.

Yep I’m in normal weight range. My BMI is 24 though so still some to spare. I’m holding steady at that weight even with the dietary changes. But that’s probably because of my frequent hormonal cheats :-)
