View Full Version : Weird question

Hey atomic.... Another question I have as I continue this recurrent pregnancy loss testing. :) I had my sonohysterogram today and all looks good - no fibroids, polyps or scar tissue - so another possible cause of my miscarriages has been ruled out. We're now only waiting for DH's chromosome test results (mine came back already and was normal). If DH's test is normal then they don't have an explanation for the m/c's, just lots of "bad luck" I guess.

One thing they did see today is that I have a VERY large follicle/cyst (even I could see how big it was!) on my right ovary. I'm only on CD9 so the RE said it's most likely left over from my miscarriage - probably was trying to release an egg when I was pregnant but couldn't. She said it wouldn't be this cycle's ovulation follicle since it's too early to be that big. She said it should go away by next cycle. I'm wondering if that would make it more likely that on my next cycle I will ovulate from my left ovary, and if there's any reason you think that may be more "girl friendly" and if it would be reason enough to go ahead and try next cycle? I feel like I'm a little hung up on the whole left ovary = more girls thing. Is that something I should even be thinking about??

I've been leaning towards NOT trying next cycle and waiting until the cycle after next b/c I haven't been back on the diet that long since my D&C, and I'm struggling on it (have had several cheats in the past few weeks). I'd only have another 4-ish weeks on the diet if we do try next cycle. I also was wanting to avoid getting pregnant as it would put the due date very close to DS1's bday, but I guess that's shouldn't be the deciding factor.

Whenever we do start TTC-ing again I will be getting Clomid again - confirmed that today with the RE. So that's a factor as well. On my 2nd cycle of Clomid I had a follicle u/s and had one dominant, large follicle on each ovary. I feel like I may be more prone to developing more than one dominant follicle on Clomid - even 50 mg which is what I'm on - so it could be that whenever I do start it again both ovaries will develop follicles - I don't know.

Anyways - thanks for your thoughts :) :)

No. It won't make it more likely (and may make it LESS since there will be hormones going on that may suppress the development of other eggs). I do not believe that left side ovulation is actually more pink friendly anyway. I think that the left/right notion is a coincidence of condition and NOT because one ovary makes girl eggs or boy eggs (if it were, they'd have figured that out during IVF rounds already) Since most of the time when we are in good condition, we O from the right and good condition = more boys, this may end up looking like right ovulation = slightly more boys. And when something goes wrong with righty, lefty takes over, and this may mean slightly lower condition = left side. That is most likely to me. So NO, I'd not ever recommend anyone pushing up a sway they weren't comfy about in other ways to try and catch a left side ovulation. Even if we could tell what side you were going to O on, which we can't.

Ok - thanks atomic. Since writing this I've kind of gone back to not wanting to try next cycle anyways. Just feel I won't be quite ready (I mean I desperately want to be pregnant but physically and mentally I think I probably need more time). I'll have to make a firm decision in the next couple of weeks bc of the Clomid.

Do you think giving myself more time on the diet is better for my sway than getting pregnant again closer to my miscarriage (which I believe sways pink?). I feel like I see a lot of boys conceived after early miscarriages so I haven't really cared much about particular sway factor.

Sorry for your losses!
I also have had recurrent miscarriages. Have you looked into MTHF Gene mutation? This can cause recurrent miscarriages, and also NK cells (natural killer cells) both have their critics but both have a good amount of evidence that when treated the patient can go on and have healthy pregnancies. How this this helps xoxox

Hi JoJo - Thanks. I'm sorry for your losses as well :( Have your doctors figured out any possible causes? I was just tested for MTHFR and I do have a single mutation but the doctor said it's not the one that they believe causes miscarriages and thus they don't treat it. I've heard of NK cells but don't know much about it and my RE doesn't test for it.

People ask me this all the time and the straight truth is that I just simply don't know. We can't go off observations, because of the whole notion of "women who are able to get pregnant right after a loss are more fertile/in better condition and this may make the outcome appear blue friendly even if it is swaying pink". Like, if a person was coming in to TTC 80% likely to conceive a boy due to high fertility and good condition, and then by conceiving soon after a loss, they got to 60% likely to conceive a boy, this is a huge pink sway but they'd still end up more likely overall to have a boy, if that makes sense.

So I just legitimately cannot say which is better, diet or TTC after a loss. I just don't know and since your heart is telling you to wait then I"d do exactly that.

Atomic - that makes sense. Ok well unless I have a dramatic change of heart in the next couple of weeks I think we'll probably wait. My cycles are short so it's not that much longer of a wait anyways!
