I believe some people can just add by pen and paper, others use my fitness pal like apps

Most people use something like MyFitnessPal which is what I used. You can use it to track for awhile until you get a good idea of how much you're eating. Since you're breastfeeding, you need to be eating upper limits of LE so 1800-2000 calories, 50-60g fat and 50-60g protein. If your baby is 6 months or younger, then do not do LE. Your body needs all that it can get postpartum to recover. In that case you could just go vegetarian but don't restrict calories/fat/protein.

I was actually just thinking "I need a FAQ on that".
Some people use an app, I used pen and paper.
Can you tell me what specifically you're hung up on?

For breastfeeding i want you on upper levels of calories 1800-2000 or even 2200. 50-60 g protein and fat (or even more if you need to)
For things with labels, use the labels. You can also Google lots of foods and they have the complete nutrient info. I also like Self.com for nutrient data.
