View Full Version : Mis-timed ovulation and length of abstinence

I have mis-timed my ovulation this month. I kept getting -'s on my opk's. I haven't ever used this brand before and did a bit of research where I learned people rarely got a +. I was due to ovulate either yesterday or the day before (I also had the pains yesterday) but today I figured i'd do a quick test just to make sure. It's positive, confirmed with a clearblue digital!!!

Now, my problem is DH and I DTD last night anyway (he wore a condom to make sure there was no O+12) so it would only be a 24hr abstinence. What would this do for my sway? Or would it be best to give this month a miss?

TIA

some dtd every day and get boys. im also worried about 24hr abstinence, but if anything like many of the wonderful girls on here toldme, it increases the amount of sperm in you so you have more x AND y sperm to give it a shot...??? if youre desperate id jst do it, if youre okay to wait, do the sway the way you planned! if it doesnt work, then adjust as needed
goodluck!

If you're doing ions the moon is right for swaying boy atm. I don't know if it will be when you're ovulating next month. Also you have to think if you're able to do another month of swaying, people usually tend to get sick and tired of it towards the end and get more 'lenient' with diet, supps, etc.

HTH :)

edit: mannem which OPKs are you using? I'm beginning to worry about the internet cheapies I got >.<

Thanks everyone.

We decided to miss this month. Dh said that if we didn't do exactly as we had planned and it turned out to be a girl he wouldn't be able to hide his disappointment and would always wonder what if, so his logic convinced me not to.

It's so frustrating because I know the moon is great for a boy today (only found out about moons today as well) and that my 'gut' instinct was telling me to go for it. I found out that both our girls were conceived on girl moons so now this moon thing is another thing to worry about.. arrghh Also both DD's were conceived by lots of bd'ing for days in a row so this is what made DH question if it was a good idea. To top it all off I have the worst ovulation pain I have ever had and it feels like it's for no good reason at all...

Sorry for the vent..

We used the condom because i seriously thought I had already ovulated and didn't want O+12.. I haven't ever ovulated this late in my cycle before which is why i was convinced i had already ovulated..

The internet cheapie opk's are fertility2family, but in the end they did work so they can't be too bad.

Again thank you

If you are *really* keen you can talk to your gyno about an HCG shot when you want to ovulate. I know it doesn't sway either way I don't know how it really works though :/

I'm sure you'll O in the right moon phase next month too don't worry about it :) *hugs*

I think swaying is not going to work for everyone. Even if everyone done exactly the same I think there would still be mixed results.
I am swaying blue by trying supps and HE diet but I am also trying to do things opposite to what I done when I conceived my girl.

Good luck for next month

I'm sorry I only just now saw this, but I do want to put your mind at ease that for frequent release to sway pink, people are having to have their husbands release every day without missing a day, for 7-10 days. Some guys are having to even release TWICE a day. So I don't think you should worry about DTD just two consecutive days.

It's not the IDEAL of course, but I don't think it's a sway killer at all.

I"m sorry! But wishing you the best of luck for next month.

just to put your mind at ease, lots of people have tried the moon thing and it doesn't work. Mine is 50-50 for my four.

If doing one or two things could make us all have a particular gender baby, the entire human race would have died out a long time ago!!! The first time our ancestors camped out next to a banana tree or whatever, we would've all been born boys and gone extinct!

Thanks for that atomic. Dh's reason is that for DD1 we dtd for 7 days in a row, which as you suggested sways pink. Then for DD2 it was O-1, O and O+1. I guess we will go for a 3 day gap and if it ends up 4 or 2 we are still in the clear to go for it.

As for the moons, I have decided not to worry too much about it. Thanks to my marvelous genes I believe early peri-menopause is just around the corner so I don't have much time to be putting ttc'ing off..

Ok I stumbled across this post and had to respond.

When I was pregnant with DD2 I had what I like to the call "the baby prophetic dream". You know the one where you wake up sweating and stressed to hell b/c you know it's not just a nightmare but the intuitive pregnancy dream that tells you if you're having a boy or a girl.

Well in my dream I remember crying to my best friend telling her I was pregnant with another girl and she asked me did you concieve her in a full moon? and I remember responding that I wasn't sure. And she said well you have to keep trying. And I told her that I didn't want to get pregnant a third time just to have a boy. Then I woke up.

Ironically this week I was chatting with a good friend and don't even ask how the topic of ovulation came up. And she's like crap I have to be careful b/c I'm ovulating this week. And me being the fanatic that I am, went and checked the bookmarked monthly moon calendar. And lo and behold it's a full moon tomorrow.

I know that neither of my DD's were conceived in a full moon and I almost never ovulate during one. Which believe me frustrates the crap out of me. B/C even if the theory is all fun and games, she has a boy and if it wasn't for that dream, it makes me wonder how wrong it is sometimes.

GD can do your head in! I've seen a lot of gender dreams come and go for various people and I do not believe in any way that they are prophetic or can tell your baby's gender in advance of an ultrasound. I had a strong and undeniable feelign that DS 1 was a boy and then I had a strong and undeniable feeling that DS 3 was a girl. It's ok to keep that dream in yoru heart BUT don't base your sway around it!! And don't stress or worry over it - stressing over things you cannot control is the enemy of blue sways!

envisioned and all interested in the moon and swaying please read the following - http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-discussion/1421-lunaception.html

I totally agree - once you hit 35+ it's best to get pg as quick as you can rather than chasing after sway stuff that isn't even proven in any reliable way. Good luck (I got pg with DS 3 at 37 and then DS at 38 almost 39 easily so don't despair!!)
