Hi Doctor P,

If you have half a sec, I'd love your take on this study (mainly because I would LOVE to debunk it for people ;))

Women can ovulate more than once a month - 09 July 2003 - New Scientist (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn3927-women-can-ovulate-more-than-once-a-month.html)

It is very interesting. I am not surprised by the findings as we often will see smaller follicles along side the dominant one. We had always assumed that they were follicles that were dropping out of the race and headed for atresia. It turns out that some of them continue to go on to mature and are released. The clinical significance of this study is limited as once the emdometrium is exposed to progesterone after the release of the first follicle, it will begin to change and will be out of phase for the second ovulation. The developmental stage of the embryo must be matched up with the developmental stage of the endometrium for optimal implanatation rates.
