Hi there!
IÂ’ve been lurking here for a few weeks and found A LOT of informations which is awesome but also confusing :p
Hubby and I are starting to think of baby number 2, and since we have a boy IÂ’d looove to have a girl.My son keeps asking for a baby sister too, for some reason. Might be a little complicated to even conceive since he works away. IÂ’m monitoring ovulations but my cycles are so out of whack that there is no way to plan vacations for him with the right timing. Were are hoping it will happen 🤷🏼*♀️.
Anyways I’d like to have your opinions on my diet, since it’s a little weird. I have 2 inflammatory diseases wich can be controled by biologic medication. The medication having horrible side effects I had to quit, and I’ve following the anti inflammatory diet for almost a year now with very good results. I still have flares but they are bareable and I can function and care of my son by myself. I’m not sure about the “swaying” potential of it though. So here are the details, and I would love to know what you all think.
The main rules are:
No gluten/grain except for quinoa and another one which I canÂ’t remember (so I donÂ’t consume obviously)
No dairy
No meat cooked under high temperature (slow cooker and boiling)
No refined sugar, only sugar contained in food naturaly
No alchool
no articificial sweetener (though I do love my coke zero and still have a can one or twice a week)
No corn (I forgot why though)
In a year of following the diet I have lost about 30 pounds. My weight has been steady for 2-3 months now, and I donÂ’t know how I could eat less.
Typical day:
I never eat breakfast, havenÂ’t in ages. I drink black coffee.
I drink teas throughout the day, green, matcha, fruits...
For lunch I usualy have homemade soup (chicken and veggies or beef and veggies). On the weekends I have an omelet. Eggs are a food of choice for people with crohnÂ’s, and IÂ’d like to know if it sways pink or blue.
For dinner I have chicken, meat or fish with veggies. Hardly ever eat rice since IÂ’m not a fan. I eat mostly veggies and chicken.
I drink vegetable juice, tea, water, and sometimes coke zero.
I donÂ’t use much salt as my mom raised me warning me about blood pressure issues in the family. I do like mayonaise in my salads, I buy the half the fat kind.
I take daily prenatal supplements for chronic iron deficiency, adh and some kind of hair supplement to help fix the damage the medication has done to my hair.
Any thing I shoul add/quit in my diet? What do you guys think?
Thank you :)

Hello!
My advice would be to stop drinking tea, veggie juice, limit eggs, and if comfortable stop the prenatals and other supplements. You have a lot going for you with the no breakfast and black coffee. I think atomic also said that she has seen good results with gluten free. Best of luck on ttc and your sway!

I want you to continue on the diet that is right for your overall health. That restrictive a diet will likely already be swaying pink for you anyway, and we have seen a strong correlation between people with autoimmune diseases and having more boys so you don't want to get into a flare for the sake of your sway, not to mention your health. We have had very nice results with people who had to go gluten free between their boys and when they got a girl.
Some things that jump out to me:
I'd drop tea, and have coffee. Something about the tea seems to be blue friendly.
Eggs are fine within the limits for the day (while I generally have most people keep to 6 whole eggs a week, I think you can double this.)
I do think you need to continue with your chicken and meat since you are not eating much else! Please don't cut back on that (no matter what they say on other sites)
I would probably cut way back on the veg juice if you can.
Artificial sweeteners have not helped sways at all and I'd have you leave that out totally.
I actually think you'd be better off with full fat mayo. You can stop ovulating if you eat too little fat and I wonder if that's why your cycle has gotten weird.
I would reduce the supplements you are taking to 3x a week instead of daily. This will register with your body as a reduction in nutrients but it will still help keep you getting enough. Since you have the iron deficiency I want you to take a separate iron supplement of 30-60 g iron on the days you don't take the prenatal. I have had several clients with Crohn's on this type of regimen and they did still get girls more than boys.

Thank you so much for the reply and all the info!
I will try and cut back on veggie juice and supplements.
About the tea; should I cur back on fruit infusions as well? There is no caffeine in them, just fruits nuts and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
As for meat, is chicken better than beef, or is it the opposite? Should I stick more with one?
You also mentionned flares. I’m at the end of one right now, still have inflammation at the bottom of my feet, which is a lot better than last month when I had pain in my hips ribs and back. I have just ovulated so I still have at least 4 weeks until the next. If at my next ovulation I still have a bit of pain, should I wait until it is completely gone to try?
And I also wonder about the fat. I’ve read it sways blue. I don’t think my irregular cycles are due to me not eating much fat, since I have been irregular since I had my first period as a teenager. My weight has been up and down for the last 10 years (I’m 32) but before that I’ve always been a little chubby with a soft side for fried food and even back then my cycles varied between 21 and 54 days. I tend to have shorter cycles when I’m smaller though. So should I keep my fat intake as low as right now or should I increase.

Things like cinnamon can sway and can also make weight fly off, so I'd keep them to 3 days a week of any given kind. It's fine to switch them up some, as long as yo're not having strong cinnamon tea several times a day or whatever.
No, there is no need to wait till you're out of the flare to try. We don't ahve any evidence that there is any benefit to that. My reference to you being in a flare was for your overall well being and not for your sway.
People think chicken is best but honestly that's never been proven.
While a diet high in fat - particularly animal based fats - may sway blue, you NEED fat (and indeed, at least a little animal-based fat is best for this purpose) to continue ovulating regularly. Regardless of what you've read elsewhere, fat is a requirement even in LE Diet - trust me, this is MY diet, I invented it, and while people say things online about what the LE Diet really entails, you're at the source now, LOL. Not eating at minimum 30 g fat will delay or even stop ovulating. And most people are needing to be up higher than that to prevent ovulation from stopping.
Now, if you're finding your cycle gets weird when you're carrying extra weight you probalby have some PCOS tendencies. But oddly enough, the cure for this is NOT to cut way back on fat, but to keep fat and protein even higher, 50-60 g total for an 1800-2000 cal diet. By cutting out fat or keeping it to very low levels, you do nothing to helps your cycle because you're replacing it with carbs (which are terrible for people with PCOS tendencies) . My advice is for you to continue eating your eggs, have some other sources of fat like olive oil and coconut oil, and don't feel like you need to be eating a very low fat diet (for the sake of your sway, anyway. if it's better for your health overall, by all means, but this is NOT something you need to be doing for your sway)

Oooh my! I've never counted my calories sonI had no idea how much I am eating. So I did a quick calculation of a typical day and I eat around 1000 cal. I’m not even getting close to 1800. I love eating, but there s nothing really interesting on the anti inflammatory diet. I eat lots of veggies because they’re what I like the most. I find rice, rice pasta, and rice flour bread very bland. If I had more calories to my intake ,, I will def put on weight as my metabolism is very slow due to crash diets in my early twenties and crohn flares keeping me from absorbing much from food. I’d like to be more active but my joints are very sensitive to repetitive moves. I don’t sit all day though, I’m hyperactive so I move a lot anyways. If I put on weight, will it sway blue? Should I eat more? And if so, what? I’m aware I will have eat more once pregnant but that’s not a problem since crohn’s symptoms stop during pregnancy (omg yes, cheeeeeese). I’m also wondering about potassium, since my only good source is my glass a day of veggie juice. Should I switch the juice for a banana? Not a fan of potatoes, plus carbs make me gain weight fast. Should I eat some anyways?
I ditched my « pumpkin spice » teas for peppermint tea. I drink 3-5 coffees in the morning so I try to avoid it in the afternoon. Please tell me peppermint doesn’t sway blue! If so, are there any fruits I could infuse in water that won’t sway blue? I drink a lot of fluids, I was checked for diabetes and I don’t have it, my mouth is just always dry. And is coke zero fine?
Thank you so so so very much for taking the time to answer my questions. I know I’m a weird case

That low cal intake is very very likely why your cycles have gone wackadoo. I think you need to get back to at least 1200.
Do you have any idea how much fat and protein you're getting? All this is only more proof you need those eggs, please do not cut them out!
I'm sorry if I'm missing this but do you have your BMI listed here?
Re potassium, can you tolerate coconut water? It's a great way to get potassium without many other nutrients. Honestly, if the veggie juice is your main source of potassium I'm going to backtrack here and recommend that you continue drinking it 1x a day since you're eating such a restrictive diet anyway.
Peppermint tea may sway pink but the problem is that it can also cut odds of conception and mess up your cycle even more so. I suggest keeping the pep tea to no more than 2-3 days a week and above all else do not be drinking it 3-5 times a day. My main concern with the fruit infusion was the cinnamon so if it helps you to do fruit infusion without cinnamon, that is what I'd have you do.
PS - have you been checked for Sjogren's? I have Sjogren's and one of the main symptoms is an awful dry mouth. You can get secondary Sjogren's after having other autoimmune diseases so I just thought I should ask! If you haven't talked to your rheumatologist about that dry mouth, do!

I’ve never calculated fat/protein/carbs. I eat boiled meat and veggies so probably not much fat. My chicken soup has about a chicken breast, and veggies. When I have an omelet, I make it with 4 eggs and a bit of bacon crumbs (one of the only things I enjoy in my diet). For dinner it varies so I’m not sure. Little to no carbs since the only kind I can have are fruits rice quinoa and legumes..
My cycles have been weird since my first period, and at that time I ate a lot. since then I’ve had bouts of dieting and of eating whatever I want. I’m a junk food and carbs lover, so this anti inflammatory diet is VERY boring. My gynecologist doesn’t think it has anything to do with what I eat since it’s not any better when I eat more. I can have a 23 days cycle here and the following is 54, regardless of the amount I eat. My mom was the same, and went in menopause at 37.
I don’t know my bmi, I’m 5’7, 165 lbs. I’m not skinny at all, even though I don’t eat much, and that’s why I say I have a slow metabolism. I do have a good amount of loose skin, since I gained 80 pounds when I was pregnant with my son. Speaking of which, maybe it would be helpful to mention what I ate when I conceived my boy. Before when began ttc I was a smoker, I drank diet coke all day, ate fat and sweets a lot. Like breaded fish, fries, bacon, cheese, bread, pasta. My husband is a foodie and always bought desserts which I couldn’t resist. When we decided to have a baby, I was scared I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant because of my loooong cycles. So I did some research online on ttc forums, and started taking many supplements, eating more of this and that. Meat veggies whole grains. I remember wheat germs, ew. I cut out cafeine, drank decaf, switch for caffeine free diet coke (I’m a real coke addict). I did that for a month and got pregnant first cycle. I tried to catch ovulation all month, and opks only turned positive cd37, stayed positive for 5 days because I was pregnant. No idea when I ovulated, but I’m pretty sure it was a 37 days cycle. So I ate less this cycle, but more nutritious, and my cycle was shorter. I do catch ovulations since then, and for the last year I have cycles between 27 (once) and 37 days. This cycle the opk was positive cd 22, so probably a 37 days cycle.
I will try and find coconut water! Would the banana be to sweet to add? And I will switch up my teas between peppermint curcuma and pumpkin pie! Some of them are rooibos and I will just avoid those. Thanks again :)

Well, even if it hasn't historically had anything to do with diet, diet IS the biggest predictor of oddball cycles and both high carb and low fat diets can cause weird cycles. I would suggest 30 g fat minimum every day, coconut oil is said to be very good for antiinflammatory diets (although I don't quite subcribe to the cult of coconut oil!)
:agree: your BMI is good and thanks for telling me that, puts my mind more at ease.
Banana is fine as part of your diet. :agree: with switching it up on the tea! I think you're on the right track here.

I will try and add coconut oil here and there in my food.
Fingers crossed now.
Thank so much for taking the time to read and answer my questions! I really appreciate!
