Thanks again, Z!
I've had pretty much the same thing today as yesterday - I'll update with my totals later. I'm off to the movies tonight, and it's going to be soooo hard not to get popcorn. I've already put a pack of Sour Patch Kids in my purse to keep me going, and I might even put 1 serving of my low fat salt & vinegar chips in a ziploc bag and bring those too to help curb any salt cravings (and since my sodium is only something like 500mg as of right after supper).

Hi mommy*duke - your day looks great with lots of yummy stuff!
Here's how my day ended up looking:
7am: coffee
12pm: 1 serving rice with 1 cup baby spinach, 2 tbsp fat free yogurt and balsamic vinegar + 2 sugar free cookies for dessert
4pm: 1 ginger cookie ( I had just baked them and they smelled so good and were warm from the oven - I couldn't resist!)
5pm: 1.5 servings pasta with sauteed leeks, zucchini and mushrooms + parmesan + another ginger cookie for dessert
9:30pm: hot chocolate (I was at the movies, and since it was a cold night this appealed to me), 3 tortilla chips dipped in Salsa (stolen from my friend)
2 cups RRL tea, 1 cup peppermint tea, 3 cups CL
Calories: 1294
Protein: 45.5g (but over 10g of that is from veggies)
Sodium: 749mg

 Mommy Duke! Your day sounded yummy! So glad you're joining us! I love this thread b/c I always get new food ideas from you all and it helps to know I'm not alone in this diet!
Mocha, I :awe: warm cookies out of the oven!!! I wouldn't have been able to stop at one, though! Good for you!
Here's what I had yesterday:
• 2 C. black tea w/rice milk
• Sautéed leeks, portobellos, basmati rice & a bit of pecorino-romano cheese, Salad w/yogurt thousand island dressing
• Air-popped popcorn w/pecorino-romano cheese, weight watcher latte ice cream bar, Zevia cream soda (this had stevia in it but didn’t have other chemicals that other soda pop has in it so I drink this sometimes instead…hope the stevia here and there doesn’t work too hard against the sway)
• 3 C. Peppermint Tea, 2 C. RRL Tea

It's okay if you're eating a lot...If you're lowering your cals, protein, fat, etc., you're swaying, girl! Your kettle corn is from T.J.'s, isn't it? I :awe: that stuff and it works well w/the sway!
We went to IKEA today and among other things, I bought a grill pan since I've been trying to grill veggies in my panini press. It was just making them soggy...:sadflwr: I can't wait to break it out and grill!

Mommyduke - your sodium is still within the limits, but you haven't had enough calories. If you avoid prepared foods like that Lean Cuisine pizza you'll have a much easier time keeping within your limits and still getting enough calories. I've been known to make a salt free pizza dough to make my own pizza at home. Add some low sodium sauce, veggies and not too much cheese and it can work quite well within the diet. I also sometimes make them on a pita to save the step of making my own crust - at less than 200mg of sodium, 1 9" pita pizza can fill me up with lots of sodium to spare.
I tend to eat a lot of pasta because it's an easy way to fill you up and add calories. One serving of pasta is usually about 300 calories, 10g of protein and no sodium - top it with some unsalted butter and parmesan and you're good to go. You can also get quite creative with sauces and veggies to add flavour.

Here's my day:
7am: coffee
12pm: rice with 2 tbsp yogurt, 1 cup baby spinach and balsamic vinegar + 2 sugar free cookies
5pm: 1.5 servings pasta with (you guessed it) mushrooms, leeks and zucchini + creme fraiche. I also added 1 tbsp of some sodium-free homemade pesto leftover from my summer swaying (I made a big batch and froze it) just to add some different flavour. + orange sherbet for dessert
8:30pm: green grapes, 1/2 serving low fat salt & vinegar chips, Mike & Ikes
Calories: 1483
Protein: 40g
Sodium: 535mg (even WITH the chips!)
I think I'm going to have something completely different for supper tomorrow - as yummy as it is, I'm starting to get bored of the same thing every night. I have the stuff to make girl-friendly quesadillas or pita pizzas. I might even make vegetarian lasagna if I'm feeling ambitious.

Ohh today was a bad day...
Breakfast- peppermint tea
Lunch- 1 1/2 slices of low calorie/low salt white bread with sugar free strawberry jam, french fries with a table spoon of ketchup, and a few salt free chips with salsa. glass of sugar free strawberry milk.
Dinner- Mashed potatoes with light sour cream and pepper and 7 baby carrots.
Other drinks- crystal light, bottled water, diet caff free coke, more peppermint tea, and cranberry juice.
around 700 calories, 850 mg of sodium, and 25 g protein
I have SUUUUCH a hard time doing the diet. I would rather starve than eat nothing but strawberries and yogurt all day. It's much easier for me to not eat and drink more and to be able to have some of the stuff that I like and not go over what I shouldn't.
Mochagirl
December 4th, 2011, 09:13 PM
mommy*duke - are you doing the IG diet or LE? On the LE diet you can eat pretty much anything as long as you stay within the guidelines of low fat, 40g protein, 700-1000 mg sodium and 1500-1800 calories. I'm really worried about you eating so little - you were below the limits for everything so you could definitely have eaten more food today!
Coccinelle33
December 4th, 2011, 09:28 PM
Well I guess im doing the LE diet. I try to sick to the French diet and the IG diet but also try to keep everything low but the days that I go extra low are the days i've ate something "bad" to make up for it. I have felt pretty awful lately though. I always feel like i've ate to much though and I try to skip breakfast and not eat late so that doesn't leave a lot of time to make up for it. I feel full from 12-5 because of lunch and dinner and then all the drinks. I start to get hungry again late at night but try and go for another drink or 2 to fill me up so im not eating so late.
Mochagirl
December 4th, 2011, 09:32 PM
I didn't have a great day. After weeks of averaging 500mg of sodium, it crept up on me today and ended up over the limit. I also went over on protein - it was all the extra cheese I ate. Oh well, my supper was so yummy it was worth it!
7am: coffee
12pm: 1 cup rice with 2 tbsp yogurt, ginger cookie
5pm: 1 1/2 pizzas made on pita with low sodium sauce, yellow pepper, portobello mushrooms and mozzarella. I could have been good and used only one or two servings of mozzarella, but I used 3 servings. I also could have been good and eaten only one pizza, but it was so good I ate half of another one too! + I had two Peek Freans Lifestyles cookies for dessert
8:30: raspberries, Sour Patch Kids
Calories: 1508
Protein: 47.5g (but 7g of that was from fruit and veggies, so technically I'm still ok)
Sodium: 1244mg
Mochagirl
December 4th, 2011, 09:34 PM
Maybe try eating pasta? It's an easy way to add up your calories and it has the added bonus of filling you up and being quite tasty. On the LE diet you can eat tomato sauce, or you could try butter and parmesan, pureed butternut squash or any other low sodium low protein sauce you can think of. Add lots of veggies to it and it becomes even more filling.

December 5th, 2011, 09:42 AM
that's not too bad! don't be so hard on yourself!
my day yesterday:
bfast:
2 slice challah with lite butter, mini bagel with whipped creamed cream cheese and sugar free jelly, 2 corn cakes, pep tea
lunch:
frozen yougurt w/ 4 raspberries, 2 cups air popped pop corn
dinner:
pasta w/ lite butter and parmesean iceburg lettuce salad w/cucumbers, vinegrette dressing, 2 pieces licorice, 1 creamsicle, 4 chocolate covered blueberries, an empty ice cream cone.
didn't totally count calories, and I always just eyeball the other stuff.
So question for you all-my period just started, yay!! I am down to 94.5 this morning, should I start to skip breakfast or keep eating it? what would you do? thanks!

December 5th, 2011, 09:50 AM
Personally, I find it easiest to skip breakfast all the time - otherwise I get used to eating in the morning and have trouble cutting it out, but if you're someone who has trouble skipping breakfast I know lots of ladies only do it close to O time. Maybe start weaning yourself off breakfast now by making is smaller and smaller or eating later and later?

MommyDuke, I think you’re doing a great job but increasing your cals may make it a bit more tolerable for you. It’s okay to go up to even 1,600 cals, especially if you’re struggling. In the very beginning when I was trying to do a sway diet, I tried to combine the IG and LE diets but it was just too difficult and restrictive so I just picked the one that made the most sense for my sway and am sticking w/it. Maybe just picking one and sticking to it would be easier for you…? I know this diet is so tough and downright depressing some days, especially watching your family eat something really you really miss. Hang in there and :hug2:!!!
So question for you all-my period just started, yay!! I am down to 94.5 this morning, should I start to skip breakfast or keep eating it? what would you do? thanks!
Wowzuhs! You are a tiny thing, Amari! What's your BMI (you don't have to tell me if you don't want to!). If it's 18.5 or below, I would tend to think you should keep the breakfast up b/c you so small and you need food! You're going on Clomid (YAY for AF coming!!!) so you'll want to be fertile and being so small, you're already swaying pink. Clomid certainly doesn't hurt a girl-swayer either!

Agreed, Sistah!!! :agree: I just quit eating it one day a few wks ago and realized I could do it so I kept it up. Last time when I was swaying, I went back and forth a few times but it just made it harder. Mocha is right...if it's difficult to just start quitting breakkie, wean yourself off over a period of a wk or so and try to be done w/it by the time AF ends (give or take a day). If it’s easier to skip dinner, do that instead b/c it will sway the same as skipping breakkie. Like I said above, though, you may need to eat breakkie if you're so small.

Saturday:
• 1 C. half-caff coffee, 1 C. black tea with rice milk
• Lunch at IKEA was :sadflwr: and no where near satisfying …2 tiny side salads (mixed greens) and two tiny sides of steamed veggies. They used to have wonderful salads but not this time. I tried to cut waaay back on the dressing b/c it wasn’t girl sway-friendly.
• Homemade veggie tostada (beans, rice, grilled veggies, cheese and a drizzle of ranch dressing)
I went over my sodium levels on Saturday.
Sunday:
• 1 C. half-caff coffee, 1 C. black tea with rice milk
• Ate out again…1/2 Mexican veggie salad and part of DH’s berry cake
• The other ½ of my veggie salad from lunch, Zevia cream soda (w/stevia…I know! )
• A few pieces of my sons’ Halloween candy (bottle caps, starbursts)

Thanks, jen. it says i'm 16.3. i am having a hard time balancing this sway diet with keeping on enough weight and keeping my blood sugar low. i don't want my to gain weight and end up swaying blue but i don't want to keep losing and be not fertile. i want to maintain but i keep losing instead by mistake. so, maybe i should not skip meals even at fertile time, idk. i don't want to bother atomic, i just bothered her with lube questions!

I had a really yummy supper tonight and I still managed to stay within my limits!
7am: coffee
12pm: rice with balsamic vinegar, 1 slice toasted Cinnabon cinnamon bread (I saw this in the grocery store and couldn't resist!), pear
5:30pm: vegetarian tacos (basically, I sauteed yellow pepper strips, leek, a cup of canned 'no salt added' tomatoes, a cup of canned 'no salt added black beans' and added about 1tsp of chili powder and a bit of cumin + a bunch of fresh cilantro, then put them on salt-free corn tortillas with cheese, fresh salsa and fat free plain yogurt. The tortillas are tiny, so I had 4! I used a total of 2 servings of cheese (60g) and about 3-4 tbsp of salsa on them. I even popped them into the oven for a bit after adding the cheese to let it melt. Sooooooo yummy!!!! I wasn't jealous of the kids for their beef tacos at all - mine looked far more appetizing. The best part is I only ate half of what I made so I can have it for supper again later in the week.) + 4 lychee fruits for dessert
8:30pm: cherries (I know - they're too healthy for this diet, but they were on sale and I love them so I couldn't resist), Mike & Ikes
Calories: 1356
Protein: 40g
Sodium: 832mg

For yesterday 12/5
I didn't really eat much at all since I was ovulating yesterday. I didn't count calories because it was to hard with what I ate but im guessing I didn't go over 700.
I had peppermint tea at 10
At 12 a few bites of left over mashed potatoes and 3 baby carrots, a pack of Newton Crisp, and then a little noodles with cheese and sauce with a caff free diet coke.
At 5 I had maybe 3 bites of my kids noodles (the ones I ate for lunch), 1 slice of sugar free pear, 1/2 of a Newton Crisp, a small salad, and more peppermint tea.
Then around 11 I had prob 14 salt free mini pretzels bottled water and more diet caff free coke.

YUMMO, Mocha! I made something similar over the weekend…I really felt like I was indulging a bit too much but it was within my means (when we went out to eat that day for lunch, that was what tipped the sodium over the edge but I’m not so worried about going over in my sodium levels this time around). If you look, you can really find a lot of "no sodium added" items in the store! Adding grilled veggies, leeks and/or vinegar really help me when I need some flavor.
:cheerteam: YAY for O coming soon, MommyDuke!!! I assume you were trying this round, right? Add another to the 2ww!!! So many of our pink swaying sisters are now there! Not sure when I'll join but hopefully it's soon...

No...I'm not purposefully eating only a little right now. I'm honestly not that hungry most of the time. My lunches are quite sizable though, especially when I eat 250 cals worth of popcorn! I will definitely need to really rethink things if I don’t get a BFP this round. I saw Atomic’s O post this a.m. and it makes sense. I’m just really bored w/food and don’t have any drive to cook anything different lately. No joke, I have 7 different bottles of salad dressing in my fridge right now to keep my salads interesting. Whenever I get my BFP, I’m going to hit all my fav restaurants w/DH…Indian, Thai, Italian….Mmmmm!

I did the IG diet and supplements and the only thing I didn't do is reduce calories and I ate a normal amount which really isn't THAT much anyway. I just feel like I need to do it this time. Im still bf but my son is 1 1/2 and im ready to wean anyway and i've almost made y goal of 115. Im 117 now so I bet I can get there! I wish I could get my hands on a cheap treadmill!

7am: coffee
12pm: rice with yogurt, baby spinach and balsamic, 2 Peek Freans Lifestyles cookies
4:30pm: sugar cookie fresh out of the oven
5pm: pasta with primavera sauce (leeks, mushrooms, zucchini, 1/2 can no salt added tomatoes, garlic (I know it's a no-no, but I eat it now and then anyway), a pinch of salt, oregano and fennel seeds + parmesan on top. This was really yummy! I was planning to make my usual pasta with veggies and creme fraiche then I saw the leftover tomatoes from last night in the fridge and decided to throw them in. + another TWO sugar cookies for dessert
9pm: green grapes, 1/2 serving of low fat chips (this amounts to one handful), Mike & Ikes
Calories: 1609
Protein: 44 (but again, about 10g of this is from fruit and veggies)
Sodium: 895mg

Ok, here's today:
I know…UGH!!! M.J., you have so much will power! I can’t stop at 1 or 2 cookies and I know this so I won’t even go there. I wish I had your strength! Not sure what I’ll do about Christmas cookies…I may just try to make a lot of “no bake” types so the smell doesn’t waft through the house...
Well...I DID eat 3, which amounted to over 300 calories...and believe me I was sooooo tempted to have more. What I tried to do was at least bake them close to a mealtime so eating it wouldn't raise my blood sugar in the middle of the afternoon. The cookies will just be the start of a lot of cheating, though (and not the worst thing since at least I'm allowed sugar on the diet). What I'm still most concerned about is all the meat I'm going to have to eat while staying at my in-laws' right around O-time if I don't get my BFP this cycle.

Oh, boy.
We went out to dinner last night so I could treat myself to some lovely, lovely, lovely indian food and push myself to really start my diet today. I have decided to not try to actually conceive this cycle because I worry it'd be too little time spent on being on the diet (my period is due around December 10th... so that'd probably be a few+ weeks on the diet? I don't know if that'd be enough time, and hubby hasn't started to take the licorice root yet... please tell me if this isn't so and that there is just as good a chance in that little window, otherwise I'll refrain from actually TTC until next month and spend time on the diet.)
We slept in today until 10am (my kid is awesome for that, I don't know why. I guess the bed-sharing + breastfeeding means we always have a nice sleep in!)
I have had:
0% fat yogurt about 5 hours after waking up...
I've had two cups of coffee with unsweetended 1% soy milk so far today.
Edited to add I've just had 1 slice of weight watchers danish bread with real unsalted butter on it (no low fat option i.e. soy spread, so oh well!)
Nothing else yet... it's 4pm! I guess I am being too strict! Or maybe not since we didn't get up until 10am. Hard to judge these things! For the most part I feel okay right now... though I am tempted on having a gloriously butter with jam crumpet. No! No! Don't go there! :P
I have to go to the store. I started this diet without very many diet-friendly foods! Going to the store tonight... any quick tips for inexpensive stuff that'd be good to stalk up on, let me know!
Are mushrooms okay on the girl diet?
Mochagirl
December 7th, 2011, 12:17 PM
Sounds like you're doing great, suregena! I tend to eat a pretty small lunch so I can save my calories/protein/sodium for a yummy supper. It's not uncommon for me to go from waking up at 5:30am until eating supper at 5pm within nothing but a cup of rice mixed with a TBSP or two of yogurt.
And yes, mushrooms are fine on the diet - I eat them all the time!

December 7th, 2011, 12:42 PM
Phew, good. Mushrooms are a nice option instead of using quorn (I'm vegetarian so trying to... well, go slightly opposite my vegetarian diet in terms of my protein sources...)
I think it's easier while I'm at home. At work will be a whole different challenge. I've started this diet today because I am at home today and tomorrow. At work, I am awake at 5.30am, and I find that when I feel bored at work I want to snack so, so bad, and my lunches aren't until 1.30pm! So, a challenge... very much so. Should be interesting on Friday....

Amari, I really don't think you're eating too much! It doesn't seem like too much at all. Also, you need that food b/c you're still dropping weight, already tiny and going on Clomid. ALL of this is already swaying pink for you! You are doing such a good job and I'm really hoping you get your BFP this first try!
Thanks, i am actually eating what feels like a lot, but i guess calories and fat wise its not. i keep adding things like kit kats and cookies! Hope you get your bfp too!

First dinner on the diet...
about 150grams of plain couscous with Quark (Quark (cheese) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_(cheese))), a splash of lemon juice, some pepper and a little rosemary (not sure what the rules are on that!), and slices of cucumber with the skins taken off.
Hm, not bad, actually!

The only way I've managed to survive on this diet for so long is by finding acceptable treats. I looooove cheese, so I save up my protein/sodium allowance so I can use lots of parm on my pasta or put an extra serving of mozzarella on my low sodium pizza. I also eat treats like ice cream and cookies, since as long as they're within the calories/fat/sodium/protein guidelines, they're ok.

Yeah, I can do it so far just fine while at home all day but at work (I'm in work tomorrow) it will be challenging. I highly recommend the af arrival cheat - it's what I've done every month of my many (sigh) months on this diet. It somehow softens the blow of af arriving.
I'm feeling really down today and am worried I'm going to have to wait a full week or more for af to arrive before I can get to CD 1 and plan my next attempt. I just want to either get af or a BFP (which I think is sooooo unlikely at this point I doubt I'll waste a test) or af.

The only problem with Asian is that my friend and I usually get dishes to share when we go that route, and I know she'd want to order meat dishes. I did tell her about the diet last time I was on it (I actually told my 3 best friends), but after the m/c I don't really want people to know I'm dieting again since I know they all think it was a crazy idea in the first place and I think they secretly blame my m/c on my massive weight loss.
I usually try to steer people towards Italian places while on the diet because I can just get pasta or wood oven pizza.

Don’t worry about sharing w/your friend…Get what you want! Where ever you go, just ask them to bring you half of your order and wrap up the other half. I do this very often and every time I ask, they seem like it’s a frequent request of other patrons.
…but after the m/c I don't really want people to know I'm dieting again since I know they all think it was a crazy idea in the first place and I think they secretly blame my m/c on my massive weight loss.
That’s what people think about my m/c…DH told a few people at work (people I know very well and used to work w/as well) that I was swaying back before I conceived last time. They are sure my m/c was due to swaying/being too skinny. I was super upset when DH told me he’d told others I was swaying (before I even conceived) b/c I’d not told anyone IRL (and still won’t this time around). As if m/c isn’t terrible enough, now when I see all these people, it’s so embarrassing. I can see it in their eyes and the whole situation is awkward. UGH…darn DH!!!

Don’t worry about sharing w/your friend…Get what you want!
I would, except she would think it really strange since we ALWAYS share dishes, then she'll get suspicious and know I'm swaying again. It might not be an issue anyway since I think I've talked her into going to an early show and just going out for dessert afterwards instead of dinner. Dessert I can do!

I know exactly what you mean! When I told one of my closest friends about the m/c and said we were going to try again as soon as possible, the first thing she said was 'You're not going to try that crazy diet again, are you??'. Only dh and one of my less judgmental friends know about the diet this time around, and I had to admit to my Mom that I've changed my eating habits again (she knew about the diet too) so she wouldn't try to serve meat when I visited, but I told her I'm just eating vegetarian and not doing the rest. I really don't want her to worry more about me than she already is!

I had such a bad day today, ugh. Work was decidedly = fail. I sort of gave up today. I had no will power.
What kicked it off was last night... er, this morning at about 3.30am, I woke up intensely dizzy, with a horrible one sided headache, and sick to my stomach. I knew it was because of lack of food. This was what I was worried about on this diet because I do get like this if I have skipped dinner in the past, or ate insanely light dinner. How do I conquer this? It makes me scared to go another two days. Basically, I had to get up at 5.30am for work and I was feeling decidedly not right and extremely unwell at 3.30am. I jumped out of bed and went downstairs and had a piece of weight watchers bread with low sugar strawberry jam. In about 30 minutes, all felt right in the world and I could sleep again. By the time we had to get up, my stomach was already grumbling. Ugh. I told my husband "I shouldn't... but 1 weetabix and soy milk, please. :("
Then I got to work... oh God. They had cookies. I HAD FOUR. CHOCOLATE COATED COOKIES! AHG! Then I had couscous and rice pudding for lunch.
Royal fail today... so far.
Please, ladies, how do I keep that unbearable SICK away from lack of eating? Or do I just have to force myself to get used to it? In the past it's been enough to make me dry-heave... :/

Suregena, please eat more! I haven't looked back but I seem to remember you're only eating around half the amount of calories recommended on the LE diet and, you're right, you can't stick with that long term without feeling terrible! Also, don't forget you can still have 3 meals a day even if you're skipping breakfast - I tended to eat at 11/12, 4/5 and 8/9 o'clock. The last 'meal' was usually a treat for after the children had gone to bed (like sweets or a little cake!).

Yeah... I'm having a hard time getting the levels all within limits... I can keep the calories within limit, sure, but then I'd surely go over protein... which is why my calories the previous two days were so low. It's tough to balance. :/ I'm sure it'll just take practice, considering this is new to me. I never even dieted before in my life. I'm a normal healthy weight at the moment, so obviously don't want to drop down TOO much (I weigh less than I did before my son as it is, which was a result of breastfeeding and just stayed that way), and have been vegetarian for yeeeaaarrrss. But it's still hard! All my favorites are gone, ha!
After today I'm going to share dinner with my husband and just have a smaller portion and have the big bad no no tomato & mushroom sauce and not stress about it, and tomorrow I will start again.
I think the only way I could probably make this work is come up with some sort of meal plan so I'm not counting up everything I eat to try to make something 'within range.' That will just make a person crazy. :/

I think the only way I could probably make this work is come up with some sort of meal plan so I'm not counting up everything I eat to try to make something 'within range.' That will just make a person crazy. :/
Somewhere Atomic stated her preferences that it's better to go over on sodium/etc provided you get your calories up - I had issues with not eating enough too initially. I think protein is easy to keep within limits if you avoid meat

I did check nutrients in everything to begin with but after a while I just scribbled down the calories/protein/sodium in 3 columns on a scrap piece of paper and made sure each of my 2 main meals was somewhere in the region of 500 cals/20g protein/500mg sodium - then I grabbed a handful of sweets as a treat in the evening.

woah that's hardly anything! how long have you been doing the diet for? how much weight do you have to lose?
Only two days, don't worry! (I'm not counting today, the third day, because it was bad.) But two days was enough for my body to slap me and say, "It isn't RIGHT!"
I'm trying to organize myself into something that works for me on a daily basis with little stress. I am also breastfeeding and I do not have a car, so I suppose I drop calories elsewhere on a daily basis on top of it all (so maybe I shouldn't try so hard!) And already a vegetarian. And my husband is already a vegetarian. Both for many years.
So... I probably weigh about 115lbs at a really rough guess (after my son it went to 108 but I've gained some back since I went back to work. Before I had my son, I was about 120. Before I moved to the UK and was in the US, I was always about 130.) I am only 5"... so I don't really have weight to lose, per se.

Suregena - I agree that you definitely need to eat more. You're right that your body's trying to tell you something. Back when I started the diet last May, I had a lot of trouble keeping protein and sodium down while eating enough calories too. I think things changed when I stopped trying to eat 'normal' things like pre-packaged stuff, store bought bread and yogurt. Now I eat plenty of food, rarely feel hungry and am almost always within limits (unless it's a cheat day).
I do things the same way Z used to - eat at 12, 5 then a snack (usually candy or ice cream) when the kids go to bed. I go to bed happy and satisfied instead of already feeling hungry - if you are, it's a looooong wait until 12 the next day.
And as for the tomato sauce? That's totally acceptable on the LE diet - just try to buy a low sodium one.

you sound a lot like me then - I started the diet when I was 104lbs at 4'11" and I'm still BF too (3 times a day at the moment)
especially if you're BF you might want to eat more calories and definitely more protein or you could find your milk supply really suffers too. Raspberry leaf tea is safe to drink when TTC - it has some benefits such as lowering pH, improving milk supply, and improving your uterine lining so implantation would be easier.... but some find it increases CM as well (I haven't found that)
are you planning on doing the diet for 6 weeks before TTC? I lost nearly 9lbs in 6 weeks and know that this time I'll have to keep the diet up until I get a BFP as it seems I don't regain weight post-diet as fast as I lose it! hence thinking of TTC after just 3 weeks on the diet this time around...

Yeah, not sure. Originally was going to try this cycle (I'm on my period now) but felt that would be too little time spent on the diet and too little time on licorice root for my husband (I thought it might be worth giving his system a go through on AF to O but not try and then do it again the cycle we try, though it probably makes no difference I guess!) So I opted to start the diet now and try the cycle after this one.

6am: coffee
12pm: rice with balsamic vinegar, homemade low fat/low sodium banana muffin
4pm: 1/2 cup hot apple cider (we cut down our Christmas tree and I couldn't resist it after being out in the cold)
5:30pm: homemade vegetarian lasagna (eggplant, zucchini, leeks, mushrooms, low sodium sauce, lasagna noodles, low fat ricotta, a bit of parmesan, spinach and part skim mozzarella) - it was veeeery yummy
8pm (at the movie): Nibs, Mike & Ikes
10:30pm: raspberries (I know - bad girl snacking late at night, but I was a little hungry and couldn't resist).

Yes, it was a mistake. I count sodium but I wrote salt! It is the sodium levels.
Hmm, more? I'll try. I'll add a yogurt with my sandwich tomorrow. I don't have many snacky things but yogurt and crumpets at the moment (I'm doing this without having done a proper grocery shop for this sort of eating.)
I guess the biggest change is I am decreasing portion sizes (normally there is a lot more cheese and action if I made pasta usually, and huuuge portions...) and I'm not eating my usuals.... beans, lentils, and so on.

perhaps the snacky things could really help you get the calories up - or have your breakfast cereal for supper/fit in an extra meal before bed or a snack between lunch and tea?

I'm vegetarian as it is so my main cut outs are beans/legumes/lentils. But I feel so good today that I'm glad that I'm on the right track and the diet feels a little less daunting knowing that even my relaxing how hard I try, I'm still trying too hard.
I'm measuring at the moment because I have no sense of restraint. Haha. Before, giant portions were norm (even though I'm small.) I walk everywhere so I probably burn up more, and therefore can eat loads of food.
Example is when we make burritos, we always have three!
However, I'm sort of happy to know that I can possibly fit in a pre-lunch (say, 11am as I get up at 5.30am on work days and my lunch at work isn't until 1.30pm...) snack and still stay within limits.

there's nothing wrong with bigger portions if you're burning more - if you keep doing the exercise you do now and eating as little as you are now the weight could drop right off you too fast, it's sooooo hard getting the balance right so you lose weight but lose it really slowly!

Yeah, my daily life involves a bit of walking. A typical work day is walking into town to the bus stop, walking 1 mile (at a guess) from the bus to my son's childminder's house, walking to the train station from her house, walking from the train station to a bus stop... and I work in a hospital so while I am at a desk job, I am up and down constantly.
And then errands, i.e. tonight I walked with my nearly 30lb son in a front carry in my Beco carrier to the store and back.
So, I'm fairly active (but not in a forced-exercise way, just day to day walking from point a to point b to point c...)...
Snack it is!
I may be more girl friendly than I feel like I am (I have three brothers, my husband has two brothers... I have that "destined to only have boys" feelings but maybe not since everyone eat meat but my husband and I!)

Next time you're grocery shopping look for sweet treats that appeal to you and read the label - it's good to stock up on lots of stuff like that. I do eat eggs... basically, I'm a vegetarian who eats dairy but typically not animal byproducts like Cochineal (which is used in a LOT of zero fat Strawberry yogurt... what's the point? It's just a food color! But made out of crushed bugs) or gelatin or animal rennet set cheeses (so, typically, parmesan is a no-no and various cheeses of that nature... especially if they are protected within the EU, as most of those tend to make it the traditional way with animal rennet). So, yes to eggs, cheese (with non-animal rennet), milk.
But I don't think I'll be eating eggs on this diet unless it is baked into something, although I have been curiously looking at the egg white you can buy in a carton... but haven't checked its protein.

Neat! I'd love to do full vegan on this diet but I don't know how to do that, per se, and keep my calories up with the general restrictions as it is.
I've been vegetarian for years but probably protein heavy because of my love of Mexican food (beans, beans, beans! And it cracks me up how, over the years, people would voice their concern for me being vegetarian on, "Are you SURE you get enough protein?!" and especially when I was pregnant for my son, both my mother who has always been happy with my vegetarianism and especially my father, were VERY concerned about protein then. I was a spitting image of health throughout my pregnancy! I had amazing iron reserves... my midwife was always very pleased with my blood tests. Sillies...)
So even though the odd amount of beans is allowed, I am seriously going to try not to have them at all... because my body is used to them and craves them all of the time. Have to shake things up a bit.
What sort of vegan meals were you eating when you conceived your son?

Suregena,
So funny about the “not enough protein”…I easily ate 75 – 100+ grams of protein per day on a vegan diet w/out even thinking about it! Protein is seriously the least of health worries on a veg diet! I think that’s a great idea to really limit your beans, especially if that was your diet w/DS1. I also love beans and never eat them unless we’re out (which is entirely too often!).
Regarding what I ate when I was vegan, my favorite meal was the following:
Brown rice or quinoa topped w/steamed veggies (kale, carrots, purple cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower) and tofu topped w/sauce (tahini + soy sauce + bit of water). Honestly, I craved this all the time and had it once or twice a week. DH loved it as well.
Another staple in our house was a big salad w/:
• Romaine lettuce
• Endives
• Cucumber
• Tomatoes
• Green beans (grilled or raw)
• Asparagus (grilled or raw)
• Edamame
• Beets
• Apples
I mixed it up and topped it w/vinaigrette dressing. For DH who wasn’t/isn’t vegan, I put ****d white cheddar in it.
I also made quinoa tabbouleh, vegan potato salad and wonderful enchiladas topped w/a cheese sauce made out of cashews and nutritional yeast flakes. That sauce is also really yummy over tortilla chips for nachos but screams BOY!

Haha, mmm... that all sounds so very yummy! My diet was/is dairy/mexican food heavy (or indian and then with the lazy nights of pizza/pasta... vegetarian but not super health-conscious vegetarian... i.e., we were CONSTANTLY eating donuts, cookies... we're always so tired after work we think we deserve "treats"... which borders on excessive... it's a good thing I don't gain weight eating like this!) so I wish I could think of more vegan meals without throwing in some sort of cheese because I fear I should really cut back on dairy when/where I can. I'm not really inspired right now in the diet because I haven't done a big grocery shop until I'm paid...
My diet was always heavily mexican food. Living in the UK, that's unusual, but I'm from Arizona! Haha! I swear we would have burritos for dinner at least 4x a week... and always repetitive toppings of black or pinto beans (I usually make big batches in the slow cooker so don't really add salt to them), romaine lettuce, salsa, hot sauce, sour cream, cheeeeeeeeese.
So, I really need to get so different... and my own innovativeness is not kicking in. I need a meal plan. Or else I'm going to get flustered every day and reach for the reduced fat cream cheese constantly!
I figure replacing cheese/dairy with tofu is probably a good idea.
Ah, who knows.

-1 coffee with soy milk
-Part hummus and part reduced fat cream cheese on weight watchers danish bread with black pepper and basil
-1 Fabulous Bakin' Boys - Mint Chocolate Christmas Cupcake... mmm...
-A cereal bowl (about two cups, cooked) of the pasta leftovers from last night... that also has some grilled veggies and green beans in it, with reduced fat cream cheese (didn't add additional, it's from last night) and some chopped plain tomatoes... I added 10g of soy spread (there is 0 protein in the soy spread! I don't know how soy-heavy I want to make my diet but... no protein, which is odd) so it would be super dry reheating it as I do not own a microwave and reheated on the stove.
-Some stewed peeled pears & apples I made this evening that has some of the soy spread melted in from cooking, also.
I've been using myfitnesspal to tally things up... and sometimes I just wonder how accurate it is, then I look at the actual products and the tallies seem correct. Although I feel like the sodium count is off...
HOW am I not eating much sodium? I feel like I'm eating a LOT of food in general. I probably need to swap good calories, i.e. real food for empty ones, i.e. soda, candy. :/
I'm just not sure how accurate it all is, to be honest.

I found with sodium that a lot of entries on myfitnesspal are incorrect due to other members submitting the details and making mistakes when inputting the sodium. I had to change quite a few items due to this. Basically the packs list sodium in grams, i.e. 0.1g. Myfitnesspal, however, lists sodium in mg. So a lot of times people input the sodium content as 0.1, but don't realise that it is asking for mg not g, in which case it should be 100mg. Therefore in this example the item would show no sodium content when it has in fact 100mg, which is 1/10 of your daily allowance. Hope this makes sense.

I use Fitday, and the problem I find with it is that when it gives the sodium for something like pasta, it assumes you're salting the water, so it gives it this really high sodium rating even though on the package it says '0' for sodium. The same goes for most cooked vegetables. I always cross-check everything with packages and other sites and I use the 'custom foods' function to enter my own values all the time.

I ended up having an accidental cheat night last night. I did pretty well during the day:
7am: coffee
12pm: 1/2 pita with 1 TBSP light Hummus and cucumber, homemade low fat banana muffin
5pm: pasta with sauce made from low fat cream cheese, a splash of milk and a pinch of parmesan + sauteed mushrooms and leeks
This is where I was before my evening started:
Calories: 932
Protein: 31g
Sodium: 406mg
Then....I went out for 'dessert' with some of my friends. I'd made sure I'd left plenty in my caloric budget for a dessert, but when I arrived at the restaurant it turned out half of them were ordering supper first and the other half wanted to split appetizers before we got dessert. So...I ended up picking at all of the apps we ordered: crostini with mushrooms and goat cheese + with tomatoes and cheddar, a cheese plate, and onion rings. I didn't eat a lot of anything (1/2 of each flavour crostini, 1 giant onion ring, a few tiny ****s of cheese), but I ate enough that I'm sure my sodium and protein were through the roof. I also had a martini and shared a dessert tasting platter (chocolate cake, creme brulee and pumpkin cheesecake) for dessert. Again, I only had a couple of bites of each since I was sharing the platter with 2 other people, but I'm sure it brought me way over my limits. Oh well, at least it was yummy .

It wasn't that tasty, but it was ok - and had way less sodium and protein than my usual pasta that I drown in Parmesan trying to give it taste - since the sauce of this pasta was tasty on its own, it didn't need the extra parm. I think it would have been better if I'd thrown in a few tomatoes too. I was actually making it for my kids and dh - theirs also had shrimp in it. Before I added their shrimp I stole some of the sauce and had it myself.

Hey, Suregena...How are you doing? Hope all is well!
Doing good! Today was a good day at work! I didn't feel like I was suffering AND everyone brought goodies/cakes/cupcakes/cookies in and I didn't HAVE ONE. That's crazy for me, but I thought if I caved in, there would be no stopping me. So it was my first proper day on the diet at work.
6am - got up, dressed, left for work. Got filter coffee at the train station and put a splash of soy milk in it.
1.30pm - hummus and skinless cucumber sandwich on weight watchers bread and one of those cupcake thingies that have like 0.9 protein (the fat is 8g but oh well!)
6.30pm - 1 tablespoon of semi-dark chocolate chips... wanted to make dinner but my son wanted to nurse, so...
7.30pm - leftover pasta (2 cups worth, but that was it already cooked with veggies in it) with reduced fat cream cheese, a little grilled veggies like zuchini and eggplant, a tiny smidge of tomato that was barely noticeable, a little soy spread so it wasn't dry on reheating it over the stove, I added some baby button mushrooms to it as it is day 3 leftovers in the fridge and needed a little bit of pep...
8pm (now!) - some skittles and going to have a cup of Yorkshire tea with some soy milk to end my night on.
As you guys mentioned about the sodium, that makes sense to me completely. It's an easy thing to goof up. I'm sure I'm still within range on sodium, though. I must be! I don't salt anything! But I'll pay attention to those numbers and try to add them in manually, though... that'd get really, very tedious...

Suregena - I agree that you're fine for sodium, though I'm sure your numbers are slightly off. I think WW bread has something close to 200mg of sodium for 2 slices (though I haven't had that for a while, so I may be remembering incorrectly). The Hummus I have has 140mg of sodium per TBSP, and the cream cheese has 105mg of sodium per TBSP. How about your cupcakes - they must have had some sodium, right? And there'd also be small amounts in some of the other stuff you had. Regardless, you're doing fine - you probably had something like 500-600mg of sodium, which is well within limits. As I said before, I manually enter all of my regular foods into FitDay - it saves them as 'custom foods' so I only have to enter them once. And yes, I do realise I am letting my testosterone-filled Type A personality shine by admitting this .

Ah, yes! THat might be an easier option... cream cheese is a little dry when adding to things like pasta, rice, couscous.
I think Mocha is right that maybe I should preset stuff so I KNOW the amounts are right!
Here's the nutritional stuff for the weight watchers, per slice:
Nutritional Data
Nutrition
Per average slice (20.6g)

Protein 2.2g
Carbohydrate 9.4g

Sodium 0.09g
Sooo... what does 0.09 equate to? (this will all be in grams... fairly certain, being in the UK.) (Edit to add: just looked it up, think it's 90mg per slice.)
I'll be switching to corn tortillas though once out of the bread. Just got my shipment from mexgrocer.co.uk (my favorite website, being an American in the UK!)

Your health comes first, suregena, so I think you did the right thing. I know in the past atomic has given advice for people who need to eat breakfast on what the best choices are, but I can't remember what they were. Anyone else remember?
Here's my day yesterday:
7am: coffee
12pm: English muffin with 1 TBSP low fat peanut butter (I was THRILLED when I discovered that these English muffins had only 120mg of sodium, and it made for a satisfying lunch)
5pm: pasta with zucchini, mushrooms, leeks, creme fraiche and parmesan, Jello for dessert (I know - bad idea with all that gelatin, but the kids were eating it and I couldn't resist )
8pm: Another girls' night, this time at someone's house. I ended up eating 1 handful of low sodium chips, 1 2-bite Brownie, 1 thin chocolate square, and a handful of jelly beans. It could have been way worse.
I don't really know my totals, but I think I'm still ok based on where I was at before my night out. I'm looking forward to some nights in now so it will be easier to control what I eat. AF is gone - just some minor spotting now - so I've gotta kick this diet into high gear to prepare for O next week.

Mocha - sounds like a nice day! I don't think it's important to track exact totals once you've got a feel for how much is in everything - you'll know from experience if the sort of things you eat are the sort of things that could push one of the totals over

I've been trying to kick the habit, though, since I know it probably raises my testosterone. After over 6 months on the diet I certainly know what works and what doesn't...at the same time I love those days when I figure out my totals and discover I have room for a big evening indulgence like ice cream or chips! I am an avid oatmeal eater, so when confronted with the breakfast problem, Atomic said cream of wheat would be OK if I could not avoid eating a cereal type thing,...it's not the best, but it works, it's not as filling as oatmeal so I get hungry a lot faster but i think its better for blood levels plus there was something in oatmeal that turns into testorine in the body I think? So cream of wheat is what I use...not sure it's the best, but I cannot function without breakfast, i will get too sick to my stomach and too headachy to go to work.

I averted my eyes when I saw the cheese curd, and bought each of my boys beautifully decorated Christmas cookies while buying nothing for myself. For lunch I bought some Montreal-style bagels (waaaay lower in sodium and protein that the classic NY style ones) and am having one for lunch with a bit of low fat cream cheese. It feels like an indulgence, but actually fits quite well into my diet. Now I just need to find something sweet for dessert....

TOO much snacking today. Mainly at the end of the work day. All the Radiologist consultants at work brought in their little Merry Christmas boxes of chocolates, cookies, etcetera today... and, oh goodness. It is SO hard walking by those boxes a million times and everyone around you chomping cookies to not grab some yourself. I'm so WEAK!
I had coffee and soy milk this morning.
Lunch at 1.40pm was leftover basmati and veg rice from last night, plain... so I bought a little thing of cottage cheese in the work cafeteria to add to it as it was a little less than half of what I had for dinner last night, and was scared of being too empty-stomached. I have NO idea if it was normal cottage cheese or low fat. :( It was probably half a cup's worth. Or a little less. Hope it wasn't TOO bad... oh, and one of those cupcakes...
Then 4pm rolled around and in came the cookies. I had 4(!!! :sigh:) and two bitesize cadbury's. Bad, bad, bad! I HAVE to TTC this time of the year (at least to try to get pregnant by a certain time, or else I'll have to wait some months and then try again... going to the US for Christmas next year so have to coordinate birth/pregnant/whatever around it, ha...), but if it were my choice, I wouldn't! Hard business, all these festive treats are going to ruin my sway! My willpower is terrible.
I had breakfast bowl size portion of basmati rice again for dinner, with button mushrooms, green beans, some garam masala/coriander/black pepper/cumin (I hope those seasonings aren't bad!) and some reduced fat cream cheese.

Also, these numbers could be off because I round up and tend to slightly over-estimate the amounts I have to be on the safe side.

Hey everyone, Ive been directed here by Zanacal, think this is going to be the making of my diet plan as was so lost!
Am loving Zanacals sweets and cakes!
Im about 5dpo and thinking now Im not pregnant - jumped and dumped after very shallow dtd, most in underwear, dtd 2 to 3 days before O. Replens 3 hours before dtd, probably over-kill with amount too. Mainly ate normal pasta, parmasan and rice, yogs and diet coke.
Im basically going to mimic Zanacals diet because Im UK based and will be great to include cakes and sweets and hula hoops lol as I need food on the go that I like too or I will give in and reach for a burger!
Am going to start tracking cals and nutrients too so hope to be a regular on here but follow in Zanacals foot steps for a fast bfp and a girl!

I'm sooooo starved today. It didn't help that we were just at the mall and I had to walk through the food court right near suppertime! I think I'm having a veggie burger for supper tonight. I've already worked out all my totals and I can fit it in with 300mg of sodium to spare - even WITH ketchup and mustard! I'm also making sweet potato fries for myself to have with it with no salt or oil added - we'll see how they turn out!

I went around carrying my son (30lbs nearly) in my front carrier for about two hours doing last minute Christmas stuff.
I thought I'd punch that into the myfitnesspal thing and it said I lost like 300+ calories doing that! So it uped my caloric/protein intake as a result. I'll still stick to my normal eating routine and not let that give me excuses to eat more, but at least I can't feel too guilty with the chocolate I sneak in at work sometimes...
(I have him in the carrier more often now that it's winter.)
I got my fiber supplements so took those before eating today.

suregena - I found the best vegeburgers to be the ones with actual vegetables inside (rather than the meat substitute type!) and breadcrumbs round the edge. They can be fairly high in sodium but I regularly had one like that from Tesco and occasionally from Waitrose. I really enjoyed one of these in a wrap with a little mayonnaise - I actually craved them!
UK ladies - I'm sat here scoffing cheap sweets from Tesco and it appears that their Fizzy Multi-Coloured Belts (very sour!) and Mini Jellie Beans have around 100 cals and not a lot else per serving and both are vegetarian.

I'm making dinner right now... my current favorite of veg and basmati rice. And in the back of my mind I'm trying to figure out how in the world it doesn't take me over my limit because it just all looks so filling and delicious. I'm worried the veg will ruin my sway, too. The ones I got were Sol Cuisine Original Burger (I'm in Canada, so I doubt you have them there), they have about 250mg of sodium per patty, and the buns I had were 110mg of sodium, so it was completely doable as long as I don't eat much sodium the rest of the day.
For the fries all I did was peel a sweet potato, cut them into wedges, and bake them for maybe 20 minutes at around 400. Easy peasy. They didn't look beautiful, but they were nice and soft and tasty.

So, yesterday was a little tricky because we were at a Christmas luncheon at dh's aunt's house out of town. First of all, they didn't serve lunch until 3pm, which almost killed me. I was already starting to feel weak around 1:00, so when they offered me a drink I accepted a full sugar gingerale. It helped get my blood sugar up and keep me going until they served the very late lunch.
7am: coffee
1pm: gingerale
3pm: tiny serving of cheesy baked pasta (maybe 6 pieces), pasta with tomato sauce (I didn't realise until after I served myself that there was meat in it, but I avoided all chunks and really only ate maybe 6 pieces anyway), Caesar salad (high in fat, I know, but the only vegetable option available). 2 tiny shortbread cookies, 1 small gingerbread man, 1 1-inch square nanaimo bar.
7:30pm: 1 1/2 cups rice with zucchini, mushrooms, creme fraiche, parmesan and a squirt of lime juice, 2 Peek Freans Lifestyles cookies
9pm: (I know it was too soon after supper to snack, but I'm used to eating supper a lot earlier, and old habits die hard) pineapple, Mike & Ikes
So I think I did ok even though I couldn't control what I ate for lunch. When I plugged everything into FitDay I was surprised to see my sodium actually seemed to be within limits - that was what I thought I had cheated on the most. Protein and Calories came out well within limits as well.
This is all just a preview of what's to come next week when I'm at my in-laws' house all week...except it will be worse because the meals won't be buffets where I can pick and choose the best options. My only potential saving grace is that one of the other guests - my BIL's girlfriend - is vegetarian. She'll only be there a few days while we're there, but I'm hoping that on those days, at least, there'll be more vegetarian-friendly food available. On the other days I may have no choice but to eat roast beef, meaty lasagna, and whatever else she serves. Hopefully O will come by then!

Hey everyone, Im not going to write what Ive been eating as dont want to give you all cravings!!
If Im not pregnant this cycle (dont think I am) then we are postponing ttc till March for a few reasons really. DS1 starts school in September so dont want to change things too much around then, the bigger the gap the better really, and also I think March sways well and Id like to enjoy my food over Chrsitmas and start the LE diet in January.
Ive spoken to Rainbowflower about my PCOS before andshe gave me some good links to PCOS so Im going to see my fertility specialist first the end of Feb. who can assess my luteal phase, hormone levels etc. so should be ready to ttc from March.
So Ill be putting on 10 pounds that I lost over Christmas ha ha!
Does anyone use wholegrain foods? I think for me I need to keep sugar levels low by skipping brekkie, but also need to stop then suddenly going high by eating wholegrain foods. I know it slightly adds some nutrition and Ill be sad not to eat the cakes and sweets! But got to be done.
But for now, Im enjoying my boy food yum yum!

Every once in a while I have some wholegrains. Those extremely low sodium hamburger buns I had the other day were whole grain - but they were so tiny that I figured it was worth it for the 100mg of sodium they had, as opposed to the 200+mg that all the white buns I found had. Once in a blue moon I also eat the whole wheat pasta I make for my kids instead of the regular pasta I cook for myself - mainly because I don't feel like having to have two pots boiling at once. I'd say maybe I have whole grains about 2-3 times a week all told.
Anyway, enjoy your food for the next month, chocolate! You are very patient (and probably wise) to take some time off TTC if you don't get your BFP this cycle...I wish I had your patience, but we've been TTC since last May (although I was pregnant for a few months in there), and I want to be pregnant RIGHT NOW!

I had the bright idea to walk my son (he's two next month so he's an excellent walker who loves to go for walks) to the park so he could play since the sun was out. Bad idea! Ice everywhere. He slipped twice (he was holding my hand so he didn't hurt himself.) Just as I saw sight of the EMPTY playground, I turned around and he became hysterically upset. So I decided to walk to the local coffee shop to get him an orange juice. I decided to just get lunch while I was there. I had a rocket and baby leaf salad with balsamic vinaigrette, tomato slices, and slices of fresh mozzarella... with some pita bread. Probably took a chunk of my allowance of the day (I put it in myfitnesspal and I do still have plenty, maybe except in the fat/protein department where I just have "enough" room left).
After eating, though, I have a headache, I feel lightheaded/dizzy. I bet it's my iron levels. I bet they're low. Not sure what to do about that...

When I was worried about my iron right after my m/c, atomic suggested I have spinach salad with some white beans and a chopped egg every day. Honestly, I only did that one day because it ended up taking my protein too high, but after that I had spinach salad with either 1/4 cup beans or a little egg for a few days. Now, whenever I feel my iron getting low, I just add spinach to lunch or supper or both (I have some frozen spinach nuggets in the freezer I can toss in with my sauteed veggies that I mix with my pasta) and/or I switch the regular pasta for whole wheat pasta for a day or two, since the stuff I buy has 25% of your daily iron per serving.

I find it doesn't really change the taste of anything I'm making significantly, but can really up your iron. If you buy the frozen kind, make sure to read the nutritional info, though - some companies add sodium to it. The stuff I have, which I love because it's in individual serving 'nuggets', has only a trace of sodium.

No coffee this morning... I just can't do the rice milk in coffee... I have to go back to soy. Rice milk just doesn't taste nice in it and if I am not enjoying it, I am not forcing it down me!
Lunch:
3 Ryvita thins and 3 Ryvita cracked black pepper crispbreads, with nonfat cottage cheese, skinless cucumber slices, and about 50g worth of reduced fat hummus... and a diet Dr Pepper.
Dinner:
(Not eaten yet but soon... it's in the plan.)
Leftover basmati rice with mushrooms and a little bit of grilled veggies, and some low fat creme fraiche.
Snacks:
Half of cupcake-thing (the last one in the box... I split it with my son.)
Two rice cakes with 1 tablespoon worth of Nutella (I only did 1 tablespoon worth and spread it very thinly over the two. SO GOOD. I never buy Nutella because... I could probably eat the whole jar...) I'm so glad there isn't heavy loads of protein in it.
Calories: 926
Fat: 24
Protein: 33
Sodium:518 (could be slightly more than that but definitely not over the limit.)
I might have one more rice cake with nutella close to bed... I have the room and I need more calories! Ha!

Sounds like a great day, suregena! I actually use a very small slosh of regular 1% milk in my coffee - I couldn't stomach the rice milk in it either and I don't care for coffee black. I'm fairly sure atomic once said the small amount you put in coffee doesn't raise your blood sugar enough to make a difference.

This week is going to be near-impossible to diet on when I'm not at home. I might relax it this holiday week (except at home!) but obviously not go CRAZY. 1 week (not even a full week...) shouldn't doom me when all of the supplements, etcetera, are taken into consideration... then after the 25th I'll hit it hard again.
There's a work party with snacks and things involved tomorrow. I'm baking chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies tonight... I have my mother in law's Christmas dinner on Friday... and outings on Xmas Eve and Xmas.
Near... impossible. I'm just not going to stress about it and ride the holiday wave a little and then jump back on the diet horse right after.
Oof.

Good idea, suregena. Once I O, I'm going to let myself relax a bit with the diet too - at least while I'm visiting the ILs. The food there will be out of my control anyway, so there's no sense fighting it and stressing about it. I will try my best to keep my blood sugar low, though, since that's most important in the 2WW...but I won't beat myself up about eating a bit of meat if that's all that's available at meals.

today started well...
morning: 2 marshmallows when I felt dizzy
lunch: tomato +sweetcorn pasta, 2 WW mini rolls
then started to feel down....
mid-afternoon: slice of cheesecake (but didn't eat it all)
and then DH ordered pizza...
tea: 1/2 Dominos garlic bread, a few potato wedges, 2 Dominos cookies
so think I've definitely gone over on the sodium today, and probably at the upper limit for cals/prot/fat too

There's no way I'd let dh order pizza while I'm on the diet! Pizza's something I can never, ever resist - and I can't stop at one piece - I'll eat a whole pizza if you set it in front of you. I think you did a great job, all things considered....

You and me both! My husband had pesto and pasta twice over the weekend. TWICE! The smell was intense.
Last week he also had pizza... it was brutal.

I have banned all my favourite foods from the house until I'm off the diet. I do all the cooking around here anyway, so I make sure to make things for the boys and dh that I don't really like: hot dogs, ham, etc. There is no WAY I'd let them have pesto or pizza - two of my favourite foods - in front of me!!

7am: coffee
12pm: shirataki noodles with 1/4 cup low sodium sauce and a pinch of parmesan and an apple and a gingerbread man for dessert
4pm: homemade shortbread cookie  (damn that Christmas baking!)
5pm: rice pasta with homemade primavera sauce made with leeks, mushrooms, zucchini, canned 'so salt added' tomatoes, oregano and fennel + parmesan on top. Another shortbread cookie for dessert.
9pm: grapes, another shortbread cookie (ok, in my defense, these things are tiny), white wine, and a handful of Mike & Ikes

If I didn't know I haven't ovulated yet, I'd swear I was pregnant. I can't stop eating! I'm also so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open while watching a show with dh tonight.

I know! it's an awful tease, especially when I was already feeling down. I think I did quite well to not eat everything in sight ;)

Jen - do you find that you miss the tea now that you're in the 2WW? I'd gotten to enjoy the ritual of several cups of tea all day long, and I found that last 2WW I was grasping desperately for something to replace it! atomic said 'pregnancy teas' are fine to have while in the 2WW and swaying, but I was never able to find any!

YES, Mocha! I'm also finding that w/out drinking it, I'm much hungrier. Drinking something warm seems to suppress my appetite. Would RRL tea be considered a preg tea? I may have to just heat some water and put some lemon in it or something...

Yeah, I was definitely hungrier without the tea too, and it's going to be even harder this next 2WW because we'll be constantly surrounded by food since it's Christmas.
As for the RRL tea, I could never find a definitive answer on that. DoulaMama told me it's fine to drink while pregnant, but Atomic strongly warned me against it. Atomic was the one who said a pregnancy tea would be fine, but as far as I know, they all contain RRL as well...but maybe it's the smaller amount of it that makes it ok? From independent we searches is seems a lot of women drink both peppermint and RRL tea while pregnant and are fine...but I want to be absolutely, positively sure that nothing will interfere with implantation, so I don't know what to do! I started drinking decaf coffee in the afternoon instead just so I could have something warm to fill my belly!

Yeah...I'd heard mixed data on RRL tea too so like you, I skipped it along w/the Pep T. I think Atomic said Pep T was okay if you had 1 cup here and there (and not in crazy swaying amounts) but I'm just such a nervous ninny so I think I'll just stick w/warm H2O and lemon if I cannot think of anything better. I'd do decaf coffee except coffee has started to really give me heartburn so it's just black tea (and only in the a.m.). Wow...now I'm wondering if black tea is okay in the 2ww...!?! Do you know?
Mochagirl
December 21st, 2011, 02:15 PM
I'm sure black tea is fine as long as you only have the one cup a day. I still drink my morning coffee during the 2WW, but I make sure I don't have any other caffeine in the day.
Normally I'm not so nervous about everything that goes into my body while pregnant, but after that experience we both had I think it's natural to be nervous ninnies....

I'm drinking RLT now while TTC, but will stop when I conceive and drink less of it during the 2ww
