Hi Atomic, How important is it to take our folic acid supplements up to 3 months prior to pregnancy. Given my history of two losses (Umbillical cord accident and heart defect) I am increasingly becoming concerened that me being on folic acid only for one month now since my losses, and planning to ttc in the next few days of my ovulation, that it might not be enough time on it? Since i am already kicking myself for really not being able to afford or have easy access to Folate, since I am taking 4 mg dose that would require a new bottle every 15 days (they tend come in 60 caps). I want to try to do everything right and Im not feeling good about all this..
So is the 3 month recommendation really important? As I said ive only been on it for one month and I have been so busy I have missed a few days. Started setting an alarm to get back into the habit of taking it! I think if I hadnt had the complications in the last 2 out of 4 pregnancies I wouldnt be overly concerened, but since I am taking it to try to prevent issues Im not sure... If it is a big deal I would delay ttc although I dont really want too..

It's by far more important to take it thru the first trimester and then wean off.

I have never had anyone hold off trying because of that. I think that we take it prior to conception just in case, but it really matters during pregnancy and not so much beforehand.

Thanks Atomic. Looks like we missed our chance this month, I O'd days earlier than expected and had an event the same night, and hubby away for work the next day. Maybe everything happens for a reason though! Im going to use this month to work extra hard on my diet until next O.
Off topic, but I was wondering about Olive leaf extract. Is it still recommended, its something that I have pondered back and forth in my sway, Hubby wouldnt mind to try, but in what way should it be used by him, and is a 3 weeks enough? should i be using it as well? May consider adding it for the next little while, just need a little more info. Thanks!

OLE is for hubbies only. Yes he can take it as long as he's not taking cranberry, aspirin, or any other blood thinners. 500 mg dry leaf daily started right away, continued till BFP then gradually weaned off. 3 weeks can still help.

Great Is the dry leaf different than the extract? All I am finding on amazon is the extract. Will this do?

The extract is fine, it's just that many guys don't like it and won't take it (plus the dosing guidelines vary by brand) so over time I have just mostly recommended the dry leaf since I can tell you a specific dose and we have a fairly good chance of hubby actually taking it. If u do preffer the liquid, follow the dose on the bottle since they are not standardized.

I just ordered the 500 mg capsules I posted below. Since you recommended 500 mg just seems easier to take. Just wanted to be sure it’s all the same deal 🙂

Hello again Atomic! How much fibre like Metamucil a day is a good amoun for a girl away and again is one month good enough I have it be affective? Just wondering if it’s worth taking for the month. I don’t know why I only now have come across fibre possibly helping on these forums. Thanks!

Just do one serving with any meal containing fat. You'll never need the large amounts that are listed on the bottle.

We don't know if one month is enough but it can't hurt.

Atomic, if my husband is doing good in taking the extract and tolerating the 500 mg well, could I up him to 1000 for the next while? Hes a fairly big guy and wondering if a higher dose could help a little more since we are only using it a short time this month until our attempt.

If you'd like to and he tolerates it ok. Some guys don't, will have upset stomach, headaches, bleeding/bruising while taking it but it's totally up to you.

Sorry to thread jump but as you were talking about folic acid I thought it best to ask on here :)

I’ve got folic acid in my multi vitamin (300ug) but I’ve been taking 1 folic acid tablet in addition (400ug) - is that right, too much, too little?

Swaying blue :)

Thanks

I like blue swayers to take 2000 mcg or so, so I'd have you take the folic 400 mcg 4x a day (morning, noon, afternoon, night) and then the multivitamin for total of 1900

Thank you.

Do I have to space it or can I take all pills at once? I’m less likely to forget that way but I don’t wanna do it that way if it matters? X

It's better for absorption to take it over the course of the day. I would prefer you didn't take it all at once, you'll just pee out the excess.
