Hi Atomic,

Reading through a few of your essays and seeing your replies to people I have a question about Folic Acid intake.

I see you often recommend that we should be taking 2000mcg a day prior to conception and after bfp. I am in England and the advice here is 400mcg, that’s the total dose in each pill, and it’s the amount of folic acid in prenatals as well. It’s what the dr/ midwife recommends as well as the NHS website.

I’m totally on board with folic acid, it’s benefits are undeniable. But I was wondering why there seems to be such a big difference in the amount you recommend compared to over here. I know medical advice can differ from country to country but the difference here seems too big so I’m wondering if I’m missing something? I did a quick search on 1800-2000 mcg folic acid tablets to see where I could buy them and google just through up a load of websites detailing how it can be harmful to take too much- I didn’t read the articles but it was enough to push me to ask you about it.

I was thinking perhaps it was because of being on the LE diet would mean a reduction in nutrients and possibly folate for a few months and therefore you recommend higher so we can ‘top’ ourselves back up?

Thank you

Lil

Ps- originally posted this by mistake in the gender disappointment forum. I didn’t know how to move it to here so I just pasted it across ! Sorry for two posts !

Lila!joined the site. I am reading lots of interesting things even if the ph thing is difficult for me to drop! 🤔🤔🤔
I think that LE diet is not bad actually. I go back and keep on reading....

Oh gosh I'm sorry, I replied to this and it didn't post for some reason.

Yes that is part of it. We are eating a more restrictive diet and are getting less dietary folate or FA and so I like you guys to take more to compensate. Plus, many people are taking supplements that may block or inhibit absoprtion of folic acid.

Many reputable sources recommend more like 800-1000 even without dieting/supplements (so 1200-1600 is really only just a bit beyond the upper normal recommendation). I personally conceived a baby with a neural tube defect taking 800 and eating a super healthy diet so I know firsthand that 400 is a bare-minimum kind of dose and is not always enough even without the swaying in the mix. Then I (and many of us on here) were actually prescribed 4000-5000 mcg in subsequent pregnancies.

I have an explanaton about the "harm" caused by folic acid here: https://www.genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/54899-please-continue-take-folic-acid-folate-recommended.html and a full essay on folic/folate here in this thread https://www.genderdreaming.com/forum/ttc-a-girl-best-practices/62405-fabulous-fasting-fantastic-fiber-fhenominal-folate.html?highlight=fhenominal+folate
I'll delete the other one, thanks for letting me know!

It's totally fine to keep pH or timing or whatever sway tactics YOU believe in. This is YOUR sway, your way. I just have to have the facts up so people hear both sides and then make up their minds. I'm always available to help you guys use the "old school" tactics, after all I was a mod on Ingender for a while and do know how to use them, even though I ended up getting a boy doing that stuff! :) Just let me know how I can help - I never force you to do or not do anything unless it's really risky!

BTW love your avatar.
