I was just reading through Atomic's Preferred Sway and she mentions that we should be taking an antihistamine (like Benadryl, right?) when TTC girl. But I always thought we were supposed to be taking a decongestant (like Sudafed) according to IG. I never did it because decongestants give me heart palpitations, but I would totally be up for taking Benadryl!
Could someone please confirm that Benadryl is correct, and also confirm that the antihistamine is better than a decongestant?
Thanks in advance!

antihistamines have safer side effects than decongestants

Decongestants typically contain pseudoephedrine which gives a lot of people heart palpitations. If the goal is to try to dry up CM, an antihistamine will probably work best, although drowsiness is a very common side effect so be careful!

Sudafed has terrible side effects like heart palpitations, and has been linked to strokes in young women who took large doses over several days, esp. while on blood thinners (which is exactly what people do when they are swaying.)
Antihistamines work just as well if not better, without the side effects.
I personally like Zytrec better than Benadryl because it doesn't make me as drowsy but whatever works. You can actually use both Z and B if you need to - take the Z once a day every day you have CM OR for 5 days before O (don 't take it on O day just to be on the safe side), whichever is longer. Then if you're going to DTD and you still have some CM, you can take a dose of B an hour or two before BD. They act on different parts of the body and are safe to take together.
