View Full Version : Help with PH, please! (and question about RepHresh)

Ok, so I had posted about my ph spiking up....it did end up coming back down to the 4-4.5 range. We BD'd last night (21st) and I checked the ph about 20 min after cuddling and it was 7-7.5 range. UGH. I know it was mostly semen at that point...but it was a longish BD session (sorry for TMI) so I fear that a lot of the Rephresh that I inserted on the afternoon on the 20th was gone esp since I've been checking ph very often. Ok, here are my questions:
1) what should ph be after BD ttc girl? I suspect my husbands ph is VERY high (9s) based on testing it one time, he is not very into participate in any of the swaying stuff bec he thinks it's nonsense and all 51/49 chance each time.
2) How long does RepHresh last for you? It says 3 days but I really think it is gone. I inserted a finger amount 20 min after bd thinking the sperm are gone and on there way, so I wouldn't be killing them off but to get ph back down. I agree with Atomic that the ph of my fallopian tubes isn't going to be affected by changing the V ph, but still figured it wouldn't hurt.
3) Can I insert some Rephresh before we BD as a lube? I'm thinking I should do that tonight to try and hopefully help those girl swimmers. How much should I use...or should I not even do that and just insert an applicator hours beforehand?
Please help! ANY advice/feedback is welcome :flowerz:

1- I don't think the pH matters after BD unless you plan to BD again whilst it's still raised
2- I use RepHresh but really the amount an applicator inserts is so small I have no idea how long it stays in there, but the box does claim to work for AT LEAST 3 days so I'd have thought it could withstand a BD session.
3- yes, I see no harm in that. I think there are other lower pH products you can use as lubes in conjunction with RepHresh, but I'm not too familiar with them as I've never tried them. I think it might be Aci-jel. That might be a good option for you if your DH has a super-high pH

I agree with rainbow (and, for reassurance, my DH's pH was off the scale when I tested it and we conceived a girl!). I would use Sylk or Aci-jel for DTD and Rephresh in advance.

pH usually raises around O, that is normal. It does that so sperm have a better change to make it to the egg. After DTD you don't have to worry about pH!
AS told me that men's pH should not be that high and it can be a sign of an infection and should get checked out. my DH's was a 10 once but I checked it another time and it was about a 7.5-8. I think I just tested wrong the first time.
I use repHresh every three days and then 1/2 applicator replens 12 hours before BDing.

Thank you for your responses....I feel better knowing a girl can be conceived with DH having a high ph (although I'm not too optimistic at this point). Maybe the ph I checked which was low in the vagina was all just semen? and not us combined? I started to think about that this afternoon....since I've never just mixed ours together...so maybe the pool I tested was semen at the entrance and maybe his ph isn't so high afterall? :baby2:
We plan on DTD again tonight...and then waiting a few days to do it again on O and O+1. I know, not really girl timing but honestly I'm trying to just do things differently than when we conceived with DSs.
I haven't found aci-jel in any pharmacy...I think it can only be found online. If we are not preggers this month, then I will order some. Sylk -- is there a certain one I should be using or do they all have a low ph? Thanks again!!

Sylk is the brand name and as far as I know there's only one version. Aci-jel has to be ordered from New Zealand or Australia but you could use Replens instead which you should be able to get hold of easier (it's made by the same people as Rephresh).
Just so you know, having a break from DH releasing for a couple of days will mean his sperm count is optimal which is good for conceiving a boy - not the timing around O but the time since your DH last released. I would get him to release on the days you don't DTD to try and keep sperm count down - or on the days you make your attempts have him release once during the day without DTD before your attempt later the same day (this may even sway better).

Yes, my DH is doing frequent release everyday from AF to O (on days when we are not DTD and some days even that we do). For the reason you said, to keep sperm count low. We tried abstaining for 2 cycles with and O+12 attempt but I found it was too stressful, and hard to pinpoint ovulation. Plus (this is totally crazy I know) I'm afraid to DTD on a boy moon bec we did infrequent BD with our boys and everytime we BD'd it was in a boy moon! (it was a total of 3 times, 2x for first Son and 1x for second). So bec we are older and don't have time to spare, we abandoned O+12 and are doing more frequent BD from AF through O+1, but only on days of girl moon. So insane....but I guess I feel I'm trying something and more of an opposite than what we did for our DSs. Wish me luck, I need it!

Wishing you lots of luck - glad to hear your DH is releasing even when you're not DTD. Don't miss your fertile time trying to avoid the boy moon though - I really hope you get pregnant soon!

1)Personally, I would not check pH after DTD. I think it's too nervewracking for something you have no control over anyway. I think 7-7.5 is perfectly normal and is the pH that ALL sperm both X and Y prefer. So you didn't do anything that harmed the X sperm by having pH that high.
2)If you're worried, you alwasy have the option of using a smaller amount of RepHresh closer to BD. So instead of using it the day before, use a 1/2 applicator the morning of your attempt and/or a fingertip of Acijel or Sylk before or after BD.
3)I personally have not found RepHresh to make a great lube. You might want to get some Sylk instead, that will both lower pH and be a good lube as well.
4)pH is not the make or break thing that people make it out to be. There are tons of women on this site and others with pH opposites both boys and girls.
I know I was late in answering this but hope everything went well!
