We tried to do the FR for 7-10 leading up to O this month and well that didn't work. We both work long days 12-13 hours and are just to tired for that every day. :) My husband is 37. I'm trying to figure out a plan for next month. Can we abstain for 7-10 days and then start FR 3 days before ovulation, trying for 2x each day, and discarding the first couple batches? Would that be a comparable sway to the FR 7-10 days? Also, would the sperm quality still be ok? I know abstaining is bad over 35. I was thinking if I discarded the first couple batches that would get the bad sperm out, but I'm not sure. Thanks so much for any input. :)

That's a compressed frequent release which I think is a fine idea! There's no mention on this thread about there being an abstain prior to it and whether that would be ok - could you DTD once between AF and your compressed FR perhaps?

Thanks Zana for the info. We could DTD between AF and our Compressed release but I thought it might be better for girl to abstain...? Maybe Atomic will have an idea if that's safe or not. ;)

I'm sure she will - PM her if she doesn't come across this post!

You could certainly do that but I think it would be best if you DTD every 2-4 days for optimal sperm health, and THEN started doing the compressed frequent release. It's your call to make.

The concern I have is that sperm take many days to form so it's not like you're going to get rid of all the bad ones just from dumping a batch or two - there will be some in various stages of development and we're simply not sure HOW abstain harms them. It may be sheer age of mature sperm in which case your plan would help, but if there is some hormonal/chemical compononent (as in, higher levels of some sperm-harming chemical develop when the pipes aren't flushed every 2-4 days - which is plausible to me because abstaining can also contribute to prostate cancer) then that's not going to gain you healthy sperm and you may as well have done abstain anyway.

It may BE better but since we don't know, I ~personally~ would err on the side of conservative and NOT do it. That is your call to make of course - even with straight abstain, the higher risk of birth defects seemed to be pretty tiny.

Thanks Atomic. I agree with you I want to err on the safest side. I'm ok with a healthy little boy to! How many days of Compressed release would you do?

I would aim for 5 days/5 attempts. O-3, O-2 I would TRY to do 2 releases and use only the second for insemination. O-1 and O day, if at all possible I would try for THREE releases and use only the third but if he can't do that, second is still good. On day after O I would go back to two releases that day using the second, only because it's pretty unlikely that anything would come of that BD and you'd prob. already have conceived from the earlier go-rounds. The benefit to that final BD is in case you pop out two eggs (NOT O+12 because I don't think O+12 works)

If that is too much, there is also the option of doing ONLY O-1 and O day (3 releases per day if possible), or doing O-1, O, and day after O (3 release then 2 release on the last day).

Ok, I have one more question. :) So either option above of CR would be equal to or better than once daily FR for 7-10 days? Thanks so much!

We honestly don't know. My gut tells me that CFR is probably better but I just can't say for sure.

Hi atomic, im very confused with this post! I thought you said that 1 attempt was much much better than more attempts, however here you sre recomendomg 5 attempts?

This post is 5 years old and is from before we figured out that the one attempt was swaying so strongly.
