Hi Atomic and blue swayers,

I'm looking for coffee substitutes as I'm a 2-4 lattes a day kinda gal and will need to give up all/most of these up for a blue sway. I know tea is the best substitute, and I plan on having 2-3 of these a day but I'm also curious about your thoughts on matcha, turmeric and beetroot lattes? Ok for a blue sway? Or a bit risky?

Thanks

Hi MiaMelb I'm not a blue swayer but I do have 3 boys ( almost) and I have always drunk 2-3 black teas in the morning with a splash of milk and chai lattes if I was out at a coffee shop etc. I never used to drink much coffee at all. Another thing is I never had caffeine after lunch ever- it disturbed my sleep too much. Hope this helps xx

Thanks Kittendreams, I do dabble in chai lattes at times but I find they can be very sweet depending on where they're from, not sure if the sweet ones undermine a blue sway? Good luck with the arrival of DS3 soon.

Thank you Mia! We are getting so excited to meet him!
Yeah I'm not sure if Atomic would recommend it for a blue sway but just thought I'd share what I'd drink in the past instead of coffee. I never had sugar in any of my hot drinks as I never really had a sweet tooth at all- I hated cakes and biscuits etc. I definitely think coffee sways pink I just have to work up to your 4 lattes a day hehe. Did you have them with skim or full fat milk? Did you add sugar or sweetener? And did you only drink them with meals or inbetween meals?

Believe it or not I used to hate coffee. Only took up drinking it in my mid-late 20s. Started out drinking mochas and slowly dropped the chocolate. I'd drink skinny lattes with no sugar on and off all day long, lowish calorie, fills me up, keeps me going and keeps my hands busy so I wouldn't snack all day. Unbeknown to me at the time a textbook pink sway strategy.

So pleased to hear you're looking forward to your new son, the thought of 3 DDs really puts me off ttc at all so it's heartening to hear others comment on how special the third of the same gender is.

Oh I was exactly the same way before ttc our third- I just could not imagine having 3 sons! But after the initial disappointment and disbelief I just starting adjusting and it just started to feel like it was meant to be. It was a slow process but I can honestly say I love this little man already and can't wait to hold him and see his little face.
I have to say though dh saying we could try again definitely helped me get through this pregnancy with only minor gd.
I hope with everything you get your little man xx

Also with drinks just thought I'd mention I would drink like 2litres of water per day minimum ( I did live in north qld at the time) and if I wanted something different it would be juice ( pineapple, orange or apple) or a banana smoothie ( just banana, yoghurt and milk) .
I rarely had soft drink but always drank red wine on the weekends- 1-2 glasses only.

matcha is ok, but it is really concentrated to keep it to maybe 2x a week.

Turmeric 2-3 x a week is ok. No more than that as we

Beetroot lattes (and chai for that matter) do have cinnamon in them. Ok 2-3 times a week, or if you can make them at home and eliminate the cinnamon it would be ok more often.

:agree: I got all four of my boys drinking tea. (a LOT of black tea - 4-6 bags per day) With my first two I had sweet teas...Earl Gray with cream and sugar was my fave...but I drank tea without sugar, just milk, with the second two.

Chais are good but have the cinnamon factor, so keep to 2-3x aweek

The sugar is really not an issue. The deal with sugar for blue sways is that many blue swayers eat the "patented blue sway diet" of skipping breakfast, eating a Diet Coke and a candy bar for lunch, and then having a salad or pasta (meatless) and more candy for dinner. So it's a high sugar low nutrient diet, and people have interpreted that as "sugar sways blue" but it's more that some people eat a lot of sugar and not a lot else.

I ate tons of sugar with my boys!

Great to see you asking questions‘, seems ttc may def be on the cards ;)
I know how you feel ..dreading a possible 3rd girl, but yes, they are so special! I’m currently sat expressing as I have just dropped off dd3 for her first day at daycare..bawling my eyes out because I miss that gem sooo much already. It’s only one day this week, but working it up to be 5 days by the first week of Feb, and am dreading being away from her.... I hope you do get your son, but fear not, anothe would be sooooo loved, even if it seems hard to imagine having three ladies at home at this stage ;)

I was very much like you re coffee drinking to keep full etc...I still did drink tea like that for my sway but probably didn’t enough nutrient dense stuff so that will change :)

Keep us’ posted :)

Thanks for the specific answer Atomic, will definitely keep any matcha, beetroot or tumeric lattes to a minimum. TEA it is!

OMG her first day at daycare, so precious, time has flown so quickly. How are you finding #3 financially? We have limited family support so the cost of things like daycare for another child are definitely a barrier to taking the #3 plunge.

Gah my answer didn’t post and it’s now lost, gahhh
Daycare rang, as she wasn’t eating or sleeping well - so picked her up, and enjoying a cuddle now :)

Mia, we literally have no other options as our family is all in Europe ..would love to be a SAHM but for my sanity I need to work too, and last time I went back partime- was paid 80% but doing a 100% of the workload so was stretched Andy stressed too much so back to FT as of 1st week of Feb.
If I won the Loto I would quit without a second thought, stay at home, and just have a few days of care to pursue volunteering and create my own biz haha
it’s definitely a huge cost, and we have decent salaries so the subsidy is minimal (it sucks to Be in the middle too as we are not’rich by any stretch of the imagination but still care costs are a massive burden financially as we fork out most of the fees). Having said that, we make it work - being frugal, buying second hand, recycling/upcycling, etc I menu plan ands that helps heap s with the budget :) we don’t have lots of costly habits or outings etc, M is in a public school etc
I think it will harder when they are teens and hand me downs/2nd hand don’t do anymore lol
We pay as much as we can on the mortgage too, so the interests on the remaining capital is lesser - and will cost us less overall. So yeah, saving where we can - I really would like to tend towards minimalism anyways for many reasons, so that is my mission this year...remove clutter and focus on the essentials, so we can enjoy ourselves and each other, you need way less than you think. Hoping to build a small saving fund for each kid for when they graduate HS, to start (uni, car etc). :) sorry, I rambled here haha
