Hi all

Wondered if anyone can shed any light on dandelion root tea and whether it’s safe in pregnancy? Most things on the net indicate it is, but one or two say they don’t know for sure.

I’ve got Cholestasis and it’s supposed to be really good for this due to liver cleansing properties, but I don’t want to take it if it risks baby.

I’m 14 weeks with my long awaited successful sway so don’t want to jeopardise it

TIA xxx

I would talk to the doc about it. I am fairly wary of herb teas as most of them are completely not investigated and when they've been tested, they often have other ingredients that may be harmful (even if the ingredient in them ARE safe.)

I going to second just that - Dandelion is meant to Be safe in pregnancy, but would always double check with your Dr/midwife.
One tea that you should look into is nettle tea - as it is meant to help postpartum for both mum l and bub :)

Thanks guys. I stopped drinking it after three days straight as I was worried. I have my next weekly bloods tomorrow - if my bile acids go down I’ll speak to my midwife and doc but if it doesn’t budge or goes up I won’t bother as it obviously hadn’t helped anyways.

Thanks you xxx

I'm very wary of you guys doing any herbs in pregnancy (with the exception of EPO and rasp. leaf tea and then only at the end of pregnancy). So little is known and I just don't feel good about having anyone take anything I didn't take myself. Even when they've been tested, studies have found that several of even the best known brands of herbs contained other ingredients or fillers that may have harmful aspects to them.
