View Full Version : Anyone measure ahead at dating ultrasound? What did you have?

I had my dating US yesterday for my third baby. I measured 6 days ahead based on my LMP. Based on my Ovulation date however it is only 1 day ahead. The tech asked if I ovulate early and how long my cycles are. I told her I measured ahead for my first two babies as well. They were both boys so now I’m convinced this is my third boy because I’m measuring ahead yet again.

Anyone measure ahead for a girl and I guess for a boy in the past??

I answered you via PM but I'm reposting here in case other people start worrying about this and also because I see I didn't finish a sentence in my reply.

You can't tell gender on a 9 week ultrasound and measuring ahead does not mean the baby is a certain gender. It simply means you might have ovulated a little sooner than you thought or the tech measured wrong.

Babies develop a certain way. Boys do not develop any faster than girls. There is a set pace at which human fetuses develop and early on in pregnancy there is practically NO variation in that pace even due to genetics. At 9 weeks gestation, you could take the child of two people who were 5 ft tall and the child of two people 6 ft tall and they would be the exact same size and stage of development! Variation in size comes later in pregnancy and more likely afterwards because boys and girls grow at different rates all thru childhood (and in fact as we all know girls develop faster at some points of childhood)

BTW my two biggest babies were my first boy (8 lb 9 oz) and my daughter (8 lb 8 oz) and they were all very nearly the same length at birth.

I understand the need to guard your heart and that's fine, but I don't want you despairing when there is no reason to.

Thank you. Sorry I didn’t see your message!
I did in fact ovulate early. My cycles when I conceived were around 27 days and it would seem that cycle I ovulated on CD10. Im just so nervous that it allll feeels too similar to my other babies that it’s all just the same again.

And of course it's good to prepare in case it's an opposite. I just want you to understand that none of this means anything and as you know already, but for others who are wondering - my two similar pregnancies were my 2nd boy and my girl. My other three were all totally different from those two and from each other. Symptoms just don't predict gender.

I know. I think I would have more hope of my pregnancies were drastically different. Like puking with one and not the other. But mine are so slightly different that I think this just falls in line with it all. Plus the other things that mean nothing (measuring a head and high heart rate) are just all the same. I’m sure if I fail my glucose test by 1 point I won’t be surprised as I did w my other two pregnancies as well.

Wow massive congratulations!!! You must be on cloud 9! Shows that size and symptoms don’t predict gender. This will really help others I’m sure. So happy for you :)

Another person who wasn't sick with a girl! This has been the case for several of us, myself included.

It's been shown in real life studies that there is NO DIFFERENCE in morning sickness between boys and girls. There is very tiny difference (a couple percentage points) with slighlty more girl pregnancies having hyperemesis, but it's still very close to 50-50 (I think it's 51/49 or something like that).

You can't tell your baby's gender based on whether you're sick or not!

Want to know the craziest thing?! I was completely fine like I had told you and I started to obviously really think it was a boy and I swear I told my husband if I was just sick I’d be more convinced it could be a girl. Well around week 10 I started getting slight nausea at night only. Then each week it got longer and longer. Now I’m almost 14 weeks and have nausea all day long BUT not sick. Just feel queasy. Like I said I had insanely easy pregnancies with my first two. No nausea at all. Just couldn’t handle smells w my second. So how I feel now I’m sure I’d what most people consider “normal” and not at all how people say they’re a sick all day! So I agree. Symptoms and size of baby do NOT predict gender.

Of course I still question daily “what if my genetic test results are wrong” and my husband tells me that’s insane and it’s DNA lol

Thank you!!! I know the measuring ahead really had me convinced it was a boy but I guess really knowing when you ovulate can help. Based on Ovulation I’m onky a day ahead. I still can’t believe it. I keep thinking the test must be wrong!

Just for anyone else wondering this (if u don't see my explanation I'm sure is on the first page of this LOL) babies of the same gender are the same size during the first trimester and even into the second and third. Babies develop by gestation, not gender, not to mention that we're talking millimeters of difference and techs can measure incorrectly when dealing with such small increments.

"Measuring ahead" DOES NOT mean anyone is having a boy. Even at birth babies are all very similar in gender. My daughter was my second biggest baby, larger than 3 of my other sons! Only my first son was bigger than she was. This is 10000000% not a thing.
