I’m so sorry, I tried to research this so you wouldn’t have to repeat yourself, bc I know I’ve seen this somewhere, but I can’t seem to find it for some reason.
I have been taking 1200mcg daily (2 pills usually around lunch and one pill around dinner) of folate for many months now, prob about 6-8 months, and was wondering how much I would need to take during pregnancy and how to wean off them and when. My current prenatal gummy has 800mcg folic acid in it which I take daily as well. Also, is there a certain brand of prenatal gummy you would recommend? Thank you!

I like you to take 1200-1600 mcg all thru the first trimester and then gradually wean off by spacing doses further and further out till down to the amount in the prenatal.
I don't recommend any gummy vitamins as I have yet to find one I like. They all seem to offer the barest minimum of nutrients and the stuff in them is often not the kind of stuff I personally think is beneficial (such as they rarely have iron).

Would this be 1200-1600mcg of folate by itself in addition to the 800mcg of folic acid in the prenatal? Or 1200-1600mcg of combined (folate plus the amount in the prenatal)?

Ok thank you! I will take my prenatal and 2 of the 400mcg folates then each day.
As much as I like the gummies, I am willing to switch to a non-gummy prenatal so that I can get the iron I need. Especially since I’ve been a little dizzy and short of breath lately. Which brands do you recommend? (It would need to be a gluten free option, due to my allergy). Thank you!

While I like the Women's One A Day and it's what I took with my kiddos (even though it's not a prenatal, it is comparable to lots of other prenatals on the market) anything that does NOT have massive amounts of nutrients other than Vitamin D is fine. I would stick with 100% DRV of anything other than Vit. D, which you can go up to 1000 IU of (250% DRV)
Since you're feeling poorly I would suggest either a trip to the doc for a blood test, or my patented anemia test which is to take an iron pill or a prenatal with 18-60 mg of iron in it for a week or two. (avoid the type of iron with several hundred milligrams of iron s it's badly absorbed anyway and will really upset your stomach) It won't harm you at that amount even if you are not anemic. If you feel dramatically better, and YOU WILL feel dramatically better right away if you are anemic, then take it daily for 6 weeks and then wean back to 3x a week at that time if you are swaying pink. If you start to feel worse again, up it to daily. When you're pregnant of course you'd just continue with it daily!!
