View Full Version : Pregnancy tests

djmommy

Ok so this is probably a question that I know the answer to but just for fun.
Do any of these old wives tales or homemade pregnancy tests actually work? Specifically the salt one? Haha
I dont even know when or if I ovulated but seem to have had my usual pms symptoms, just a lot worse. I just can't bring myself to take a test right now. Im probably not and I actually seem to always have symptoms each month and convince myself I am but not! Lol.
So just seeing if anyone did anything specific for fun and found any accuracy to it.

No, unfortunately, they don't work.

Sore bbs?? That's always been the sure sign for me.

djmommy
May 13th, 2020, 02:40 PM
I never have sore boobs so its never a sign for me. I have had a lingering neck and headache and tired but its also a pms symptom.

atomic sagebrush
May 13th, 2020, 03:42 PM
Oh, bummer! What about vaginal discharge?? That's often a very early sign for some people. FXFXFX!

djmommy
May 13th, 2020, 04:46 PM
You know its strange im usually an oddball...lol I usually have discharge when I'm not pregnant and never any when I am, which I currently have none. I guess I will see how I feel in a week. I had some progesterone strips that I took and had one or two positives before I ran out but I don't feel like they are super reliable.

Im trying not to symptom spot at all because it usually gets me heartbroken..I just feel different. I had cramps and a backache last week, swore af would be here anyday...just waiting to see. I have been having a hard time sleeping and feeling hot and pressure headaches...so it could also be symptoms of perimenopause :(.

Well, you know your own body best! For now I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you!

djmommy
May 20th, 2020, 10:27 AM
Well its cd 35. No Af, still low temps, as I just started tracking to see. So I am quite sure I haven't ovulated. I really really hate long cycles..they are awful.
I just dont quite understand how my body goes from cd 6 ovulation to cd 35 and nothing.
So question, its probably not a good idea to take soy isoflavones without us?
And I have a script for progesterone, mine seems to be lower, probably from low egg quality or whatever so I figured it couldn't hurt to use. Should I use it IF I ovulate this cycle or just wait.
So bummed at my body. Im just not ready to give up on a baby.

atomic sagebrush

Yes for the same reason we don 't want to take Clomid without ultrasound - if you take it at the wrong time of month it can cause an ovarian cyst that may then prevent ovulation for 1-3 months afterwards.

:agree: Progesterone doesn't hurt as long as you take at right time of month, it's just that it hasn't been shown to help really, but as we all know at some point it's time to start throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.

djmommy
May 20th, 2020, 03:52 PM
Ok thanks. I definitely do not need any more hindrances.
If I detect ovulation I will take it.

djmommy
May 21st, 2020, 10:38 AM
Today is my last bd chance until next Wed :(
So bummed.........
I hope I will O tomorrow but as usual my opks have been consistently dark again often so Im not even using them.

Stay laying down for as long as possible and spend part of the time on your tummy!

djmommy
May 21st, 2020, 10:57 AM
Ok I will! I usually flip over on my tummy after.

djmommy
May 22nd, 2020, 12:45 PM
Do you think I could have ovulated on cd 33? Too early to tell or wishful thinking? 42572

atomic sagebrush

I can't say because of the lack of earlier temps, I'm sorry I wish that I could.

I weaned my little guy about 2 weeks ago. I was usually pregnant every other time so never noticed. But does tour milk turn back like colostrum after weaning?

atomic sagebrush
May 29th, 2020, 12:52 PM
Yes it does - I was getting that colustrum stuff for months after.

Thanks so much 4blue.
I try to be hopeful but its so hard. My boobs are sore and they never are but Im guessing thats from weaning also. I never charted this cycle so have no clue where im at.

Another question, what causes cm to have a yellow tint on tp?
I have no pain or symptoms of any infection but it looks bright yellow on tp

atomic sagebrush
May 30th, 2020, 04:29 PM
Like I said I always get excited when anyone reports uniquely sore boobs just because that was always a sure thing for me (even in months I had a miscarriage I had that, and then in no other months ever)

Yellow CM can mean AF is coming (or an STD but obvs that's not the case here, just in case anyone else stumbles onto this) but it can also mean pregnancy, or nothing at all. I have found that sometimes when people are taking B Vitamins they have yellow CM (just like how it makes your urine yellow). Sorry, I wish I was more help!

djmommy
May 30th, 2020, 06:01 PM
I totally wish sore boobs meant pregnancy right now but I dont even think I have ovulated. Or if I have AF will arrive. Took my temp today and was low, not post O temp. I really don't want to try anymore, these long cycles are so discouraging

I was hoping I ovulated Fri with a fallback rise. Wishful thinking!

djmommy
June 9th, 2020, 09:07 PM
I do have a question...I mean since that positive opk, I have gotten a lot more just like it. I dont think I have ever had so many that the control line has been darker. I have had cycles before where the opks were continuously equal or dark. This was tonight randomly, no hold at all. 42623
Now my question is, do you think something could be wrong or just normal hormonal imbalances in perimenopause.?

And I do not think in my fertile time as my cm is not there, very creamy.

atomic sagebrush
June 10th, 2020, 07:27 PM
I was hoping I ovulated Fri with a fallback rise. Wishful thinking!

That is absolutely possible though.

atomic sagebrush
June 10th, 2020, 08:42 PM
While you can get more false positive OPK as you get older, it doesn't mean you can't get pregnant.

It could very well be that these are the true positive so when you can, have attempt (if hubby is home now?)

djmommy
June 10th, 2020, 08:55 PM
Not home yet.....but I will remember that.
Its just super frustrating!!!!

djmommy
June 11th, 2020, 09:33 AM
I try to take my temp around the same time but not obsessively. I woke maybe 30 min early and took my temperature after about a min or two of not falling back asleep....but gosh.
Such a drastic drop. Is this just how annovulatory cycle are? Just wonky?
I have also had a good amount of cm, but creamy non fertile. It seems like it would be counterproductive to having a positive opk

42624

atomic sagebrush
June 11th, 2020, 07:16 PM
Anovulatory cycles are usually up and down with no pattern like a zig zag.

djmommy
June 15th, 2020, 04:43 PM
Grrr..well it seems that I still haven't ovulated. Gosh this is so hard. Im not really sure what to do.
No one in real life has any clue that I desire another baby so I have no one to talk to about it at all. I hate these long cycles. I think im done trying to track right now. Opks are not positive anymore. Im going to stop temping as well.
Im not sure how I will actually get pregnant if my cycles aren't even regular! :(
I wish I was that person who could say...Im done having babies! I just don't want to be done!!
Help!!! Lol

atomic sagebrush
June 15th, 2020, 04:59 PM
The only way to go with the irregular and long cycles is regular unprotected sex. That way you're always in the position to get pregnant and yet you don't have to stress and obsess over what is happening.

I wish everyone could just have that "I'm done" feeling! It would make it so much easier!

djmommy
June 15th, 2020, 05:47 PM
Yes that is what I will continue to do. I was not really tracking in the beginning of this cycle and I swore I ovulated and swore I was pregnant. Like crazy I actually thought I was having morning sickness. Totally nuts.
I just hate not even knowing where I am at in my cycle but it's probably better that way.

It's not nuts at all, it's that so many of the symptoms we have due to hormones in general really can mimic pregnancy.

I have had a few cycles over the years where I had nausea that was hormonal in nature but I knew I couldn't be pregnant. I wasn't expecting it or thinking about it at all, and was just queasy. So I know for sure it's possible to have symptoms that feel like pregnancy and aren't.

Well today is cd 73. No AF. I had gone to my primary for something this past week and I also felt like I had a mild UTI. I have had a lower backache for days. Well my urine culture was negative as well as negative for nitrate and leukocytes but it said a trace of blood. I was thinking maybe AF? But 3 days later nothing. Im confused and just wondering if you had any thoughts. I go back for a repeat this week. I took an opk and it was negative, they usually go positive before AF for me.

Well CD1 today..Kinda sad kinda relieved!
Should I try the soy isoflavones?

atomic sagebrush
July 1st, 2020, 05:02 PM
Yes, let's give it a whirl, CD 3-7 just like taking Clomid

Let's consider looking into myoinositol and DHEA too. Prob too late to order for this month but for next if we need to

djmommy
July 1st, 2020, 05:35 PM
I tried the myoinstiol and I stopped because it was like cd 20 and I hadn't ovulated. I just had TSH and it was 1.76.
How much dhea?
Thanks

Also to add, I can't believe I am asking after all these years....lol cd 1 was super light, but was more than wiping/spotting. Still count as cd 1 right?

atomic sagebrush
July 2nd, 2020, 02:41 PM
Oh yeah that's right, thank you for refreshing my memory.

I would start with 25 mg daily, and see if you have any side effects. At BFP, we would wean off this by spacing doses further and furher out till down to one per week, then you can drop them.

djmommy
July 2nd, 2020, 05:26 PM
What type of side effects would be expected?

atomic sagebrush
July 3rd, 2020, 02:04 PM
Like those of high testosterone - breakouts, body hair, hair loss, increased irritability - but has some upsides too like weight loss, muscle growth, and improved libido (I would honestly take it myself for the benefits but it interacts with some medication I'm on)

At that low a dose you can't OD yourself or anything but don't take more than that wihtout having a doc check your levels. There are some rarer side effects like heart palpitations and high blood pressure but at that low a dose, like I say, very uncommon.

djmommy
July 3rd, 2020, 10:20 PM
Ok thanks. I will order a low dose.
I had it tested last year and I want to say it was low, maybe in the 30's? I'll have to double check.
Started the soy today. Gosh I hope it helps in some way

Edit...DHEA was 56 last year

atomic sagebrush
July 4th, 2020, 01:30 PM
That's not bad at all but I'm still inclined for you to give it a whirl, what do you think?

djmommy
July 4th, 2020, 01:46 PM
I will try it out. I should probably start fresh next cycle right?

atomic sagebrush
July 4th, 2020, 02:23 PM
No I'd start it now unless you don't want to. ASAP

djmommy
July 5th, 2020, 10:25 AM
Thanks, I will. I found 10 mg. Or would 25 be better?

djmommy
July 5th, 2020, 10:31 AM

Cd 5 so if I start today that should be ok?

atomic sagebrush
