Hi ladies! I know this is a chicken or egg question, but do women tend to ovulate or menstruate first after having a baby?
TIA!
FWIW I’m 16 months post partum with no cycle yet but had a positive OPK today, I don’t think I trust it though

You have to ovulate first to have a true menstruation. So the answer is ovulate. But you can sometimes have what is called a "breakthrough bleed" when you haven't ovulated for a while when your body has built up a lining without ovulation (since we build lining prior to ovulation) and then your estrogen drops suddenly. This drop in estrogen without any progesterone (since the egg was not released, the corpus luteum does not form and thus cannot make progesteron) can trigger the lining to come off and you'll have what seems like a period but isn't.

Most women will ovulate first though.

BTW - either try or else take precautions if you're not ready to try yet.
