I have noticed that surprise babies tend to be boys. Why is this? Perhaps a more active sex life?

Also, do women (ie Catholics against birth control) who don’t take birth control and allow pregnancy to happen naturally tend to also have boys? I have noticed this

That's so interesting. I actually have about 4 friends who have had surprise or accidental pregnancies and they have all had girls.

We don't find that to be the case. We actually find more surprise babies are GIRLS.

We would need a study into unplanned pregnancies to know this for sure.

FWIW I have two surprises and one was a boy and one was a girl.

My BIL has two kids, both of which were an "oops" and both are girls. Personally I think it has something to do with being more relaxed and not in that "controlling" mindset we sometimes get into when TTC. Also, with an "oops" it's more likely that it was just one attempt which also sways pink. If the woman was on birth control, that would also sway pink too. That's not to say that all accidental pregnancies are girls though, it's just an observation.

Oh and I think I missed a question -

I just looked over a few dozen images from Google about Quiverfull and megafamilies and I felt they had a pretty even split between boys and girls for the most part. A couple of our biggest families on this site (ELP, and I can't think of the other woman's user name since she hasn't been on here in ages, but she had 8 girls and 2 boys) are girl heavy. If this is a thing (which, without a study I can't say) I would suspect it's more that people who are super fertile are both more likely to have boys but also can have that many children (which some families can't). But that's just speculation, I'd need some hard science to go off of.

I am Catholic with a large family, but I did use birth control 11 years ago. So my first, no birth control, was a boy, then my next two were coming off birth control and they were also boys. When I was pregnant with my 3rd, I decided to nix the birth control and did charting instead. Since then I’ve only had girls. However, since my 3rd son was born 10 years ago, I’ve pretty much always been trying to lose weight (except when I’m pregnant) and I eat a lot of junk and don’t exercise like at all. I just limit what I eat. Before getting pregnant with this baby, I was swaying boy and eating a ton of vitamins, and we did 3 attempts, but my diet was not boy friendly at all. Was still trying to lose weight plus lent was just a month prior and some of lent was spent with me majorly fasting 2 days a week, like hardly eating anything!! And she’s a little girly! So I do see why my sway didn’t work. Also because I do try very hard to have faith in God, there is always that “I’ll have what I’m meant to have.”

I don’t know if that helped at all but there you go!

Just to add to the sample size: my husband’s parents avoided using birth control, and they have four boys and seven girls!

I did have a boy. I had 2 boys previously. Snack, cereal lover and going to the gym at least 3 times a week. It was one attempt, we don't even remember... but he was meant to come to us.

Maybe it's just coincidence. I didn't have an accidental baby. I'm SMBC and I had an embryo donation to get my baby girl. You mothers with accidental babies are so lucky and blessed.

All we can do is look for trends on this site and watch them to see if there's anything to them.

There will always be exceptions to trends, but without watching for trends, we'll never unravel the mysteries of gender swaying.
