Hi again ladies. I have posted in the ttc help forum but I think it may have been the wrong section as I haven't had any responses, however a quick rundown. AF arrived 2 days early last week with none of the usual symptoms like cramping etc. It was red as usual but extremely light and by evening had turned dark brown. It has been that way for 8 days now. The first 5-6 days was heavy like a normal period but brown and the last 2-3 days has been more like a brown discharge. Normally AF is 3 days and is always red. The last 2 days I have had cramping also.

My question is related to ovulation. I would normally be getting ready to ovulate, however I can't see that happening whilst I still have this discharge. Is it worth using my OPK's yet as normal or will I wait until the discharge stops? Every time I go to the loo it's still there, though much lighter today.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this while dieting and taking supps when ttc a girl? I was thinking maybe swaying has affected my cycle as I have never experienced a period like this before.

I appreciate any responses.

Justine.

Personally, I'd be testing anyways so I didn't miss O incase it did come on time. Sometimes our bodies just do funny things! Maybe this cycle is just one of those bizarre ones that nature likes to throw us every now and then to keep us on our toes :) Are you sure you're not already pg? That could also explain it. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply! I haven't tested as I assumed with the discharge I couldn't be pregnant. We did BD on ovulation day though. I have 3 DS's and when I was pregnant with them AF just didn't arrive, no bleeding of any sort. The discharge doesen't appear to be abating so maybe I should visit the GP. Can you do a pregnancy test when still having a discharge? I'm not a POAS addict....lol....so never have tests around, just normally wait for AF to arrive...or not!

You are probably right, just a wacky cycle. I hope it doesen't continue too much longer!

Thanks again jazzers.

Pregnancy was my first thought too?

every pregnancy is different, just because you didn't get a breakthrough bleed with them before doesn't mean that this isn't one :)

Thanks ladies, and congratulations rainbowflower, you always have such lovely and informative comments in people's posts so it was nice to read your good news!

Still having the discharge tonight so that will make it 9 days tomorrow. I will do a test tomorrow, however surely all this discharge for so long would not be promising for a pregnancy?

Sorry I don't always see things in the other forums, so if I've ever missed anything, feel free to PM me and let me know so I can respond.

Sometimes, AF is just weird for no reason. Even when I haven't been swaying I have had AF that were completely odd like that (and I've had AF for 30 years most of which I was NOT ever swaying - I would say it's happened average of 1-2 times a year). Supps can def. contribute to cycles being strange, esp. vitex and cran/aspirin can cause unusual menstrual flows. If you are taking cran/aspirin, try cutting back just a bit and seeing if that helps. The last cycle I took vitex, it was almost exactly what you describe, barely any fresh blood and then some brown blood after that.

You should def. take a pg test just to be sure and also keep doing OPK. You may O later than normal this month or it may be right on time - the discharge will not affect your OPK any.

Remember, different is GOOD with swaying. We want different - same ol' same ol' was what got us boys!!

No, not promising at all and also it would be unlikely that if it was a chemical, that your test would still be pos. at this point. However, I was pg with twins and lost one and I had what I thought was AF but my other baby survived and I didn't even realize i was pg until many weeks later. When in doubt, ALWAYS test because one part of your uterus can be doing one thing while another part of yoru uterus is doing something else entirely.
