Hi, my husband and I are vegetarians trying to concieve a boy.. we are hoping to try in a month. I am following the HE diet - we have dairy, nuts, lentils, beans, eggs so try and get as much protein as possible in our meals. I am also doing weight training workouts and have been for months, I have been doing 2/3 workouts a week but i am hoping to up them to 4 workouts over this next month.. 3 weight seasons 45 minutes and 1 cardio session 30 minutes is this ok? My husband will hopefully be doing weight training this month.
I am concerned that I don't have that much egg white cervical mucas, I tried evening primrose oil but stopped as didn't think it made a difference and from reading stuff here it isn't good for a boy sway. I have been having 1 cup of green tea daily again hasn't made a difference.. should i stop this? I started drinking grapefruit juice 1 glass daily 2 weeks ago and I am hoping this will help. I have lemon water 1 glass daily, Is there anything else I can do to try and make more egg white cervical mucas?? We will be using preseed and the following guaifenesin to help thin my mucas out is this ok?:
https://www.boots.com/boots-pharmaceuticals-mucus-cough-relief-150ml-10130223
I am in the UK and although vegetarian I am open to having fish oil if this will help my cervical mucas as i am assuming that is why fish oil is recommended on here?.. If so is there any 500mg fish oil supplements anyone can recommend? My husband doesn't want to take fish oil but is open to a vegetarian supplement.. does anyone know of any good ones? I have found an algae omega 3 one as from what i have read the oil fish have is derived from algae so it's the same thing is that correct? The 1 I have found is on the link below is this any good? Please scroll down to 'nutritional information' and 'additional information' for ingredients and the mg of the supplement.
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/together-natural-algae-dha-omega-3-softgels-60010638
I have also found a probiotic as I have read that this is good for a boy sway? is the below ok?
https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/special-offers-293828-44/bioglan-daily-formula-biotic-balance-ultimate-flora-capsules-x30
Other supplements we are taking are:
pregnacare conception his and hers.. I started mine a few months ago, my husband started a month ago.
vitamin D at around 1000iu total including multivitamins.. husband started this a few months ago, I started a week ago.
vitamin B12 at around 1000micrograms including multivitamin (with us being vegetarian i thought we may need this?).. my husband started about a month and a half ago, I started a week ago.
My husband has L-arginine 500mg and 25mg zinc in total including his multivitamin, is this all ok? He started this about a month ago.
Will 4 weeks be enough for the supplements to take effect specifically the fish/algae oil and probiotics as we haven't yet started these? Any other supplements we should be taking? Please help and offer any suggestions as i feel out of my depth, I am looking forward to hearing from atomic also!
Many thanks

Yes that's a great amount of exercise!
Green tea and grapefruit juice are fine, try guaifenesin. The EPO has caused too many opposites.
Yes that guaifenesin is fine.
The algal oils are fine. This isn't for EWCM but to give your body a bit more Omega 3 fatty acids.
Both the Omega 3 and probiotics are fine.
I do not like Pregnacare and do not recommend them. They have megadose nutrients and additional herbs added to them that I don't recommend. Some people choose to take them anyway which is your choice, I just don't like them.
I prefer you keep the B Vitamins including B12 at more like 100% recommended value. The B vitamins can be disruptive to the cycle. Taking extra D is ok though.
4 weeks will be enough for the fish oil and probiotics!
Happy to help!

Thank you so much for replying Atomic I was hoping you would!
Is there anything else you would recommend for producing more egg white cervical mucas? Do you think green tea could lead to me having less cervical mucas?
Oh I see thank you for clarifying the omega 3.. is fish oil and algae equally as beneficial do you think? I am open to taking fish oil if it will help the sway more. Do you know if the fish oil is purely due to the algae fish consume? The algae supplements I linked in my first post state it has 'low iodine' is this ok?
Is a higher strength of probiotics more beneficial to the sway? The link below is a different 1 higher strength which do you think is better out of that and the 1 I sent in my first post?
https://www.boots.com/bioglan-balance-ultimate-flora-30-capsules-10141596?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc-_-PLAs-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Bioglan-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Top+100+Vitamins+-+Mobile&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwuiJ_8im7wIVzdrVCh2zIwsiEAQYAiAB EgKVy_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
In terms of the pregnacare conception I know you say they have megadose nutrients and herbs, could this affect the blue sway? Also as we are vegetarian i thought the higher doses may help us? Are the rest of the supplements below ok?
Ok do you know what the recommended dosage is for B12? What's the max vitamin D we should take?
Are there any other supplements you would recommend for our sway Atomic?
Do you think vegetarians have less chance of conceiving blue? Any foods you would recommend for us to eat?
Thanks again for your help i really appreciate it.

Yes some people have reported less EWCM on green tea though we can never be sure if that's a real finding without scientific studies being done. If you feel it's making less then please drop it.
The fish oil comes partly from their diet of course but it's not so straightforward the way you're thinking of it. The Algal oils are said to be good though.
We don't know about the strength of the probiotic unfortunately. Anything is better than nothing.
The human body, vegetarian or not, is not meant to be ingesting massive doses of nutrients. If anything you're likely already getting large doses of nutrients from a vegetarian diet. You only need 100% DRV B12 even if you are a vegetarian/vegan.
Most people take 1000 IU Vit. D. A little more is ok though.
As long as you're careful not to go overboard with soy protein and to be sure to get a good level of Omega 3 and saturated fats, vegetarians still have a fine chance of a boy!
Blueswayer1
March 11th, 2021, 05:23 PM
Thanks Atomic. Ok any food sources which have omega 3 and saturated fats you can recommend?
What about protein powders for the days I may feel i need to top up protein? What do you think of the below 1 is pea protein, 1 is whey protein?
https://www.bulk.com/uk/pure-whey-protein.html
The whey flavoured ones have a sweetener in there called sucralose is that ok? The unflavoured whey one doesn't have a sweetner.
This is the pea protein and the ingredient is just 100% pea protein isolate
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/pulsin-pea-protein-60006969
I have read some posts where other peoples husbands are having L-carnitine and CoQ10, what is this for? Do you think my husband should take? At the moment he is taking multivitamins, l-arginine, B12, extra vitamin D and zinc, probiotic and will be having the algae omega 3s.
Also I know you said pregnacare conception you don't like is the below ok for me? It has vitamin A in though..
https://www.boots.com/centrum-women-30-tablets-10141602?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc-_-PLAs-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Centrum-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Health+and+Pharmacy+-+Mobile&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyaCQwaOr7wIVAgd7Ch1yrQoXEAQYASAB EgJUh_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
And is this ok for my husband?
https://www.boots.com/centrum-men-60-tablets-10161673
If not any others in the UK you can recommend?
Also is it possible Atomic that i may overexercise and effect my sway if I do 4 workouts a week? I was thinking to do 3 weight training workouts a week which would be 45 mins per session of les mills body pump (I don't know if you have heard of this barbell workout?) and then 1 30 minute workout on the cross trainer what do you think? Or should I do 2 of the bodypump workouts and 1 session on the cross trainer so 3 workouts a week in total? Just so you know I didn't do any exercise before I concieved both my girls.
Sorry for all the questions! Just mindful I have under a month before attempt!
Thanks

For Omega 3 just take the algal oils. If you're a vegan then use coconut oil. If you're not a vegan you can have eggs and full fat dairy for Omega 3 and saturated fat.
If you need whey protein now and then that's ok. I prefer that to the pea protein. The soy protein is less good and should be totally avoided.
The old school swayers would say to avoid sucralose as it's fake sugar. But we have not found small amounts of artificial sweetener to sway at all. Your choice, I'd personally stick with the unsweetened ones.
Yes carnitine is great for hubbies. 1000 mg daily, wean off at BFP. Coq10 is ok, probably doesn't do a whole lot, but you both could use that 100 mg a day if you want.
4 workouts a week is great! Just keep to no more than 45 minutes a day.

March 12th, 2021, 05:25 PM
Thanks Atomic. We eat eggs and try and have 2 most days is this ok? I am trying to cook with coconut oil. I think I am going to get fish oil for myself and my husband will have the algae ones, I am waiting for them to be delivered so it is coming towards 3 weeks now before we ttc, is that enough time for the omega 3 supplements to do what they need to?
Would this fish oil be ok, it says it's double strength so not sure..
https://www.boots.com/bioglan-super-fish-oil-100-capsules-10211100
Or this one?..
https://www.simplysupplements.co.uk/omega-3-500mg
Is the l-cartinine to be taken in addition to the l-arginine? Do both increase testosterone is that there purpose?
This week I think I am only going to be able to get in 3 workouts, are 3 ok a week as with young kids 4 can be hard to get in.. 2 weights based and one cardio would that be ok? Is it essential for men to exercise to?
Could you please check out the multivitamins in my previous post and let me know if they are ok and I will order.
Many thanks

March 13th, 2021, 04:45 PM
Great! Eggs are fab as is the coconut oil.
Either of those fish oils is fine.
3 workouts is great too!
Oh sorry forgot - Centrum is ok, that level of Vit. A is ok during pregnancy
Blueswayer1
March 14th, 2021, 04:03 PM
Thanks Atomic, is it better to cook with butter or coconut oil?
In terms of the centrum i would want to switch to another pregnancy multivitamin if i concieved would that be ok? Are you happy with the doses on centrum for both men and women? Any others which you think are better?
The simply supplements fish oil has 10mg vitamin e in there aswell, my multivitamin has 4mg is that ok?
Sorry could you let me know about the l-carnitine question in my previous post? Just wanted to know if that and the l-arginine serve the same purpose?
Ok, I may try to do 4 exercise sessions a week.. 2 weights session and 2 cardio is that ok or is 2 sessions of cardio risking the sway? Is it essential for my husband to exercise?
Do we take all the different supplements in 1 go or are you meant to spread them out during the day?
Are chia seeds a no to the blue sway?
Last few days I have found myself feeling fill at bedtime, do you need to have big portions for the blue sway?
Thanks
atomic sagebrush
March 15th, 2021, 01:05 PM
Once you are pregnant you can gradually switch from one to the other. Don't do it suddenly, give it a few weeks and switch gradually.
Yes, that level of Vit. E is fine.
They are like two different essential amino acids. Taking one is good, taking the other is good, taking them both together is great.
2 sessions of cardio a week is fine for blue as long as it does not go longer than 45 min
No, not essential for hubby to exercise.
Whatever works best for you on the supplements
I prefer you guys do not use chia seeds any more than 1-2 times a week.
You don't need big portions as long as you're eating regularly. You dont' need to be stuffed to the gills to have a boy. Just eat regularly, healthy options with both protein and fat in them.

Hi Atomic, thanks for your reply.
When you say change the vitamin gradually do you mean every few days take the pregnancy vitamins whilst on centrum?
I am currently taking algae omega 3 and was looking for a good quality fish oil i have found this but it is 1000mg, do you recommend people to take 1000mg every other day or is it best to stick with a 500mg fish oil daily? I don't want to ruin my chances so happy to go with what you advise. If 1000mg is fine every other day is the below ok?
https://www.highernature.com/everyday-essentials/essential-fatty-acids/omega-3-fish-oil?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIydiVsuC07wIVEJntCh3AEgECEAAYASAA EgLyxPD_BwE
Have you had people concieve blue who did take pregnacare conception? Do you have stats on which multivitamin was best?
About the chia seeds I am worried now, we were up until Saturday having them id say 3/4 times a week with our porridge, haven't had since Saturday and will stop now altogether. We are planning to try in just under 3 weeks do you think the chia seeds we have had could risk the sway? Are there any other foods we need to avoid? We are Indian just so you know I think I have read you are aware of Indian diets!
Does my husband need to have coffee or red bull just prior to trying to concieve? I have read about this don't know if it helps with blue sway?
Can we use a condom during the ttc cycle? We are planning to do the babydust method do you have any thoughts on this?
How often should my husband be releasing from now until we try to concieve?
Are you meant to be getting a good amount of sleep and well rested to sway blue?
Thanks
atomic sagebrush
March 16th, 2021, 10:46 AM
Yeah, like take the one 2 days and the other 2 days, then gradually increase the amount of days till you're taking just the new one.
You just don't want to go from one level of nutrients to another suddenly (particularly if there is a decrease in nutrients)
I am not getting why you wouldn't just keep taking the algal oil, which is the appropriate dose. it does not have to be fish oil, the Algal oil is fine. I would much rather see you continue the appropriate dose of Omega 3 than do 1000 mg every other day. This is acceptable but I prefer the smaller dose daily.
I am sure people have gotten boys on Pregnacare. There are also people who have seen huge disruptions in their cycle on Pregnacare and ended up having a lot of trouble with it. I will never recommend Pregnacare, you take it at your own risk.
I don't keep stats on multivitamins because most of them would have very few results and the small sample sizes would be useless information. Plus there's just a very limited amount of things I can track.
The chia seeds are likely fine at that intake, I'm being very conservative with my recommendations. Yes I know a good amount about Indian cuisine because I have had so many Indian clients over the years! I would go ahead and try just make the adjustment from here on in.
I don't think the coffee/Red Bull helps your husband at all. It makes sperm swim a little faster in a study, but that has not been proven to help the gender ratio any. In fact the fastest sperm are often dead by the time they make it to the egg, and they appear to have some other purpose we don't know. Additionally (and this is the big reason) men who drink caffeine often end up unable to sleep, and so they become tired and unable to have sex for the later attempts. I have seen gobs of couples who have an early attempt (say O-3 or whatever) and then their husband gets so tired he can't even make it to the O Day attempt!
Yes, you can use an unspermicide, unlubricated condom if you would like. Babydust Method is dishonest junk based on "science" that has been thoroughly debunked. I regularly have people show up here who have been trying for a year and not conceiving with it. I strongly urge you to have 3 attempts in the fertile window (you can do this O-1 thru O Day if you want to keep timing, by having one attempt the night of O-1, one in the morning of O Day, and then again that night - so 2x on O Day).
I would have your husband release every 2-4 days. This is best for sperm health and quality.

Ok will do thanks Atomic.
For some reason I just had it in my head that fish oil is better, I know animal products are meant to be better for blue I guess I just thought to compensate for being vegetarian. Ok I will stick with the algae supplement instead. The only thing with the 1 i have which i didnt realise when i got it, it states 1 tablet gives 'on average' 352mg of omega 3, DHA is 207mg, EPA is 123mg and DPA is 22mg. My husband and I are taking 1 a day, it says we can take 1 to 2 daily. What do you suggest? I could find an alternative which has 500mg if that would be better as I want to make sure we are getting what we need? Here is the link to the one I have:
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/together-natural-algae-dha-omega-3-softgels-60010638
Ok I have been taking the pregnacare conception for a few months thankfully it hasn't affected my cycle so far.
Will do we have stopped the chia seeds altogether, only took as they were high in protein being vegetarian. Are there any other foods you feel we should stay away from?
Ok thanks for clarifying we won't use coffee or red bull prior to ttc.
Thanks for the suggestions Atomic with timing, I guess I am feeling quite nervous about the timing aspect as both daughter's we concieved by trying every other day after my period and then it was usually 3 days in a row - the day before ovulation, ovulation day and the day after ovulation, I am wandering if because of all those attempts it reduced my husbands sperm count? Do you believe the timing that boys are more likely concieved near ovulation? Sorry does 0-1 mean the day before ovulation?
As we tried every other day when we concieved our 2 daughters I am thinking maybe him releasing every 2 days would be too often? Would 4 days be a safer bet?
Thanks so much for all your advice

Just take one of the algal oils.
Foods to avoid (most of theses you don't eat anyway):
Shellfish
Organ meats
Artificial sweeteners
Oils from things that are not even FOOD (cottonseed, canola, safflower)
Shortening
Spirulina and chlorella supplements
Protein shakes containing high amounts of soy protein
Burned foods and barbecued meats
above all else you must quit smoking if you possibly can or cut back.
Anywhere from 2-4 days. IF you feel 2 days is too close, fine to stretch that to four. Totally up to you.
O-1 is the day before O. This is still within the timing guidelines.
I do not believe timing works. I got 3 of my 4 boys with cutoffs and my girl very close to O. (the other was a sneak attack I don't know when I got him.) The science does not support timing and it's been thoroughly debunked by all reputable scientists. The ONLY people who still believe in timing are those selling some timing method. No one else believes in it any more because the fundamental principle is based on one man's mistake, that we now know was incorrect, and 50 years of science have proven it does not work.
But, I do still allow you guys to use timing if you want to hence my recommendations to have sex late O-1, and on O Day because I understand many people want to use it.

Are algae and algal oils the same thing atomic? Ok thanks we don't smoke.
Could you take a look at my meal plan Atomic and give me your thoughts please?:
Cooking with butter mainly sometimes coconut oil
Try and have 2 litres water daily including pint of lemon water.
BREAKFAST
Porridge with dark chocolate chips every other day alternating with 2 Shredded wheat and whole milk
1 cup of tea
Is that enough nutrition/protein for breakfast? Any alternatives you can suggest? As you will see below I am trying to have egg more at lunchtime..
MORNING SNACK
4 mornings a week: banana and handful of almonds
3 mornings a week: Larabar and banana
Have a glass of V8 original vegetable juice daily with this
LUNCH
2 days a week: wholemeal wrap with black beans or red kidney beans with vegetables (onion, garlic, peppers, mushroom, brocolli, courgette, spinach) topped with cheese
2 days a week: 2 wholemeal toast topped with peanut butter and avocado, 2 poached eggs on top with cheese and cherry tomatoes, topped with black pepper and salt
1 day a week: 2 eggs salad sandwich (spinach, tomatoes, cucumber and avocado)
1 day a week: 2 scrambled eggs with 2 wholewheat toast and baked beans
1 day a week: halloumi wrap with vegetables.
1 cup of tea after with 2 pieces of dark chocolate
MID AFTERNOON SNACK
3 days a week: pear or apple or watermelon with 2 ryvita (rye bread) topped with cottage cheese
2 days a week: green smoothie consisting of spinach and kale, whole milk, pineapple/berries, almond butter, avocado and tomato.
2 days a week: 2 oatcakes, soft cheese and cherry tomatoes
DINNER
2 days a week: 2 chapattis with lentil curry and vegetable curry, with salad (spinach, tomatoes, cucumber and avocado)
1 day a week: instead of chapattis have quinoa with lentil and vegetable curry with salad.
1 day a week: Quorn mince spagetti bolognese (carrots and courgette included in this) instead of spagetti I have quinoa. Steam some Brocolli for the side
1 day a week: Quorn burger and chips or homemade vegetarian pizza and chips
1 day a week: Quorn sausages and steamed vegetables
1 day a week: Quorn pasta bake with cheese
Have meal with 1 glass of grapefruit juice
EVENING SNACK
Greek full fat yogurt and blueberries
OR
Whey protein shake 3 times per week blended with some fruit
Is this ok Atomic? am I getting enough of every thing vegetables, fruit, dairy, protein? Do I need to increase the egg intake to this plan? I would have it 4 times a week (8 eggs altogether). Anything i am having too much of?
Thanks

No, you want the oils, which have the additional stuff in the algae removed and are just highly concentrated forms of the oil.
Your diet is GORGEOUS!!! Great!

Sorry I don't think I phrased my question right, I am taking omega 3 algae, I know you have mentioned algal oils is that the same thing?
Thanks for looking over the menu atomic glad you approve!
Can i drink the grapefruit juice throughout my cycle?
Do you follow PH testing? I do test mine around ovulation, should I be testing my husbands semen?
I have never used any sort of lubrication, sorry if this is tmi but how do you use preseed?
I know you suggested carnitine for my husband what dosage should he take?
Is there a position during sex which is more favourable to conceiving a boy?
Should my husband be taking the guaifenesin cough medicine aswell? Also how many days during my cycle and how often should I be taking this?
If I wanted to replace one of the meals with jacket potato, cheese and beans is that good enough? Is Indian tea with things like fennel seeds ok to have? Pumpkin seeds have protein are they to be avoided like chia seeds?
Also any tips on how to limit the weight gain? Sorry for all the questions just trying to cover last few bits im unsure of :)
Thanks

What is the brand?? Did you already show me the supplement you're taking? I thought I had already approved it.
Yes grapefruit juice is fine, just be careful if you're on any medication as it makes some meds act more strongly.
Just a little bit as lube when you have intercourse. Like the size of a coin.
You don't need the large amounts it calls for on the tube. When people use that much the hubbies find it way too slippery.
No, pH testing has not worked for us at all. We had results all over the map and it does not seem to be predictive of anyone's sway working. Plus people tend to get super obsessed with it for no reason since it doesn't help anyway
carnitine 1000 mg till BFP and then he can wean off
Some people say doggy style for a boy, I doubt it matters much though.
He can take guaifenesin if you guys want. I don't think it's a necessity tho
Yes, it's fine to replace some meals with potato/cheese or beans/cheese.
I would keep any kind of herbal tea to 3x a week max You can have a variety of teas, just rotate them so you never have more than 3x per week.
Pumpkin seeds are ok in moderation too. 3x a week
Just watch your portion size and don't hit it too hard on things like dried fruit and fruit juice. Breads too should be kept fairly minimal.

Hi atomic. Thanks for the reply, yes I showed you here is the link, its the 1 that had the following values.. 1 tablet gives 'on average' 352mg of omega 3, DHA is 207mg, EPA is 123mg and DPA is 22mg
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/together-natural-algae-dha-omega-3-softgels-60010638[/url]
Please confirm if this is ok as like I said its algae not algal. I am a bit nervous about the reduced mg especially as i only started taking it a couple of weeks ago but if you think that doesn't matter I will carry on with it, I am happy to purchase something else if you think it may help even a little bit.
Thanks glad I asked you would have used the amount of pressed it said on the box!
Ok we will have a think about the l carnitine if it's not essential that is, we may then give it a miss.
About the guaifensin do you know if other successful blue swayers got there husband to take? What days of my cycle and how often should I take this?
I will do I tend to have more English tea, may add in a cup of Indian tea incase it helps!
Are pumpkin seeds similar to chia seeds? If so I may also just steer clear of them. Are raisins ok to have?
Ok I will bear that in mind, thanks I am starting to feel very nervous I am due on my period any day and planning to try this cycle!
Atomic is there any truth to if you have 2 children of the same gender (I have 2 girls), it statistically increases the odds of your 3rd child being the same gender?
atomic sagebrush
March 22nd, 2021, 10:21 AM
I did already confirm it is ok. That is fine to take. They just say "algae" instead of "algal" oil. No biggie, just a different terminology.
Yes, some successful blue swayers gave their husbands guaifenesin. Others didn't and still had success. You take it for five days before you expect to ovulate and three days afterwards.
Pumpkin seeds do have a fair amount of Omega 6 fatty acids (remember, for swaying blue you can have SOME Omega 6 but you want more Omega 3 than Omega 6) but they do NOT have the same problematic chemistry as chia/flaxseed does and are better than those two types of seeds.
It doesn't statistically increase your odds, no. Now, across the whole population, yes, people with 2 of one gender do end up having the third the same more often than not (slightly) but that does NOT mean it's giving you higher odds. Keep in mind people who have 2-3-4 or more have the same sort of LIFESTYLE all along that was swaying to begin with (very few people actually sway!! They just have kids and see what happens). So when you see a person who has 2 of one gender and gets a third, it is NOT that having 2 of one gender makes it more likely they'll have a third, it's that their lifestyle was swaying strongly for them and that coupled with a bit of luck made that happen. If you change your lifestyle that goes away, because it is not something that is actually swaying!

I see thanks Atomic. I thought they were 2 different things shows how much I know haha.
Ok how many times per day and how much do I need to take of the guaifensin? Here is the link to the one I have...
https://www.boots.com/boots-pharmaceuticals-mucus-cough-relief-150ml-10130223
Ok thanks for clarifying. Are raisins good for a blue sway?
Ok that given me some hope thanks.
I have read on here some people have black tea is that normal English tea without the milk? Does it sway blue? Is coconut water essential to have? At the moment I have v8 original vegetable juice, grapefruit juice and lemon water.
Also we are planning to do doggy what position would you say i should get into after? for 30 minutes? Should I stay on my front? Is lying down on a certain side meant to be better for conceiving a boy?
Thanks

I would take the minimum amount needed to make EWCM. Some people see big results with a low dose. Others have to take more. It's pretty benign stuff so you can take up to the max dose but most people don't need that much. There's somewhat of a diminishing return with it - as in, most people see improvement on a low dose, and then it doesn't get much better on a higher dose, so why not take the lower dose, is my thinking.
Raisins are fine, but they're very sugary. You'd be better off using them as an addition when you want them rather than a regular thing. You will get all the nutrients in raisins in other foods.
Yes, black tea is just another word for regular old tea. You can have it with or without milk. The "black" is just a word for the tea and not whether or not it has milk in it.
Coconut water is not at all essential and you can safely leave it out. I got four boys and never drank coconut water till later.
Just lay down however you're comfortable. You can change positions as needed. Some people prop their hips but I don't think that's necessary. No, you don't need to lay any particular side to conceive a baby of a particular gender.

Ok the dosage on the guaifensin states you can take two 5ml spoonfuls every four hours, up to 4 times a day. How much would you suggest atomic? I'm not going to know how much I'm going to need to get EWCM as the cycle I am taking it is the 1st cycle of trying, from your experience on here how much have people needed as the minimum amount?
Is spicy food/sauces to be avoided on the boy sway?
Ok thanks for clarifying. If we do doggy I was just thinking if I turn over everything may come out!

Try one spoonful a couple times a day and see how it goes. The amount people use varies. If there was one set dose I would have told you to take that dose, of course. I'm not trying to be difficult, it's just that some people respond to it with a low dose, others need more.
No, you can have spicy food and sauce when swaying blue.
Just be careful. Most of what "comes out" is not the sperm but semen anyway but especially at first, just try to keep most of it inside.

Oh not at all I don't think your being difficult, it can't be easy doing what you do! Will try that, does the guaifenisin tend to have more of an immediate effect on the EWCM? I ask so I can be aware of when I may need to adjust the dose I have.
Will do thanks, its a tricky position will try and keep my muscles down there clenched maybe!

Yes many people see it have an immediate effect. If you don't you can try upping it.
If you're worried about it you can use the missionary position too. I really don't think positions do a whole lot.

March 26th, 2021, 08:24 AM
Thanks Atomic ok will bear that in mind.
I would but my concern with missionary is that I used that position to concieve both my girls, I have read deeper penetration is better who knows!
As I mentioned previously I am planning to use the babydust method as it is the opposite of what we did to concieve our girls (did every other day for them when my period finished and then 3 days in a row - the day before ovulation, day of ovulation and the day after). I am using OPK test strips and for the method you need to find the darkest test strip and then try 24 hours after that and another 24 hours after (so 2 attempts in total). I am using the premom app to store pictures of the test strips to help me determine the darkest test, my only concern is that depending on if the pictures are taken in artificial or natural light I am wandering if this could impact on the accuracy of the apps interpretatio? Of course I am trying to use my own judgement it can just be a bit difficult across previous tests when they dry out to compare to the more recent one. What are your thoughts on this? Any apps you would recommend?
Also could you check out my 2 charts for the last 2 cycles on fertility friend below please? What day would you say i ovulated on each month? Would ovulation be the day before the temperature rise or on the day of the temperature rise? I usually ovulate around mid cycle so don't check BBT across the whole cycle but will be doing the full one this cycle.

It is very unlikely you got your girls because you did missionary position.
You can actually get very deep penetration with missionary if you put your legs over your husband's shoulders.
I don't care what position you use, I'm just trying to alleviate your concerns about losing semen by changing position. If you are losing semen from doggy style then try missionary. If you don't want to try missionary, that's totally cool, I'm just explaining the other options and not trying to convince you in any direction.
"doing the opposite" only works when the thing you were doing the opposite of is the reason why you got the gender baby you did. If you "do the opposite" of something that had been swaying blue for you, you are only going to hurt your sway doing that, because "doing the opposite" takes away the thing that was swaying blue and replaces it with something more pink friendly!
Having sex the day after ovulation does not count as an attempt.
Babydust method is garbage. The way they are telling you to do the OPK will ensure you have the dreaded one attempt in the fertile window IF you are able to conceive at all. Waiting for the darkest OPK and then waiting 24 hours after that is literally insane, the majority of people will not get pregnant this way (and this is why I regularly have blue swayers showing up here going years plural not conceiving with Babydust.)
What you need to do, if you MUST do Babydust (and I strongly recommend against it since our data shows overwhelmingly that one attempt is a strong pink sway) is wait for the first positive OPK, NOT THE DARKEST which happens quite some time after your body has received the signal to release the egg. Then you can wait your 24 hours if you must and have attempt then. Having an attempt 24 hours after the darkest OPK will in most cases mean you have missed the egg entirely, and having an attempt 48 hours after that, for the vast majority of cases, will occur much, much too late and does not count as an attempt.
As you describe your issue there (how do you know it's the darkest test, does the light affect it, etc, and this doesn't even get into your urine concentration which can vary dramatically) you can see why "the darkest test" is not a good rule. It was never used for anyone before. All natural family planning and the old school timing methods did not use "darkest test" because it's an arbitrary distinction.
As for your charts, the top chart looks as if you most likely ovulated CD 15. It is impossible to pin it down more than that, but it is believed that in most cases (unless the temperature was misleading for some reason) by the time the temp rises the egg is dead. The bottom chart is not possible to pin down because of the temp being very close for three consecutive days.

Thanks for your reply Atomic. I really appreciate it about the guidance you have given about positions and I will definitely take that on board.
I trust your advice Atomic so I am going to ditch the babydust method. I am nervous about the idea of trying throughout my fertile window though due to conceiving 2 girls this way, babydust method aside when would you suggest I try if I do want to try nearer to ovulation? Have blue swayers had boys when they have tried to concieve nearer to ovulation?
I am feeling nervous as I have just over a week before the attempt and don't feel I know enough about OPKs now I am not following the babydust method - when using the OPK sticks what would you class as positive? when the test and control lines are equally as dark? And how long after the positive do people tend to ovulate? I use the wondfo ovulation test strips.
I attach below the ovulation test strips I put on the premom app.. from looking at the shade of darkness on the test line what cycle day (and time just so i am sure) would you say the positive was? And how long after the positive would you say the attempt should be made? Just so i know what to look out for. Thank you so much

If you want to keep with Shettles timing, just have an attempt the night of the FIRST positive OPK (not the darkest), again the next morning (should be O day) again that same night (so 2 in one day on O day) and one more the following day to guard against delayed O.
As long as blue swayers can get in with more than one attempt, yes, you can get boys at ovulation. The trouble arises in that they can't fit in more than one attempt if they wait till ovulation. Their husband often can't perform, and the first batch of sperm hits the egg. Since one attempt has been such a strong pink sway it's a risky proposition to try and have attempts when the egg is released.
I hope you can see from your app there, why they are useless. Does it make ANY sense to you at all that you went from low fertility to high fertility back to low and then back to high?? This method is nonsense and does not fit in with how LH triggers ovulation to occur.
The first positive OPK came on CD 13. So I would have had you attempt that night (O-1), then again the morning and night of CD 14 (O Day), and then again CD 15 to guard against delayed ovulation. This ensures 3 attempts in the fertile window. It doesn't need to be a certain time or number of hours, just when it's convenient.

Thanks Atomic. What about the men who have low sperm count, could doing it the morning after the night before cause an issue? I don't know if sperm count is an issue was just wandering.
Ok so with my positive being on CD13 from the premom screenshot and we established that it seems likely I ovulated on CD15 that cycle according to the fertility friend screenshot I put up for January, do you think it would have been ok attempting 2 days before ovulation day?
Now that I'm not looking out for the darkest OPK test and ditching the babydust method, would it be a good idea if i used the clearblue digital ovulation test and attempted on the 2 peak days which I understand to be the day before ovulation and the day of ovulation? I would use these with the wondfo OPK as I don't know if the wondfo would be more sensitive, just to double check things and take the guess work out of reading the lines alone. Here is the link to the clearblue test what do you think? Have blue swayers had success with it?
https://www.boots.com/clearblue-digital-ovulation-test-with-dual-hormone-indicator-10s-10154162
Also from the fertility friend screenshot I sent in my previous message I know you weren't sure about ovulation day on the 2nd screenshot, but it may have been CD15 as based on the other 1 that you thought was CD15 and my Dec (see screenshot below) it seems my pattern looks like ovulation may happen more on CD15? - so would it be best if that is the pattern it seems likely for me, to try on the evening of CD13 and CD14?

Also do women need to orgasm to ttc a boy? I don't know how likely that will be for me if we do doggy (sorry TMI!)

atomic sagebrush
March 29th, 2021, 11:23 AM
No, it's not an issue at all. When the fertile window is open, you are simply adding more and more sperm. Even if a second batch was a bit smaller (which it normally isn't as it takes even men with low sperm count several ejaculations in a row to diminish their numbers) it would be ADDED to the first batch. It's different than Shettles, where you're counting on only one batch to carry the day. This method you end up with 3 or more ejaculations inside, and that will ALWAYS be more sperm than just one ejaculation is.
Timing doesn't sway. It doesn't work, and thus I think it is fine if it happens to work out that it's 2 days before ovulation (if in fact it was, which we cannot know for sure, because the temping does not completely predict ovulation to the day the way that some sway sites claim it does). The important thing is those attempts!! We have overwhelming data indicating one attempt is bad for blue. So (because your cycle CAN change from month to month, and just because you had your first positive 2 days before ovulation this time does not mean you will the next time) if you wait too long, what can, and does happen is that you have waited so long the egg's been released and only the first attempt reaches it, or more likely that you're trying to fit in the 3 attempts in such a narrow time frame your husband can't perform but one time. This is a very frustrating and upsetting situation as I'm sure you can imagine and it makes for some hard feelings.
You are welcome to use the Clearblue, but it works just the same as OPK. The two "peak" days with the solid smiley simply reflect the first positive OPK and the day after the first positive OPK. So again, even using Clearblue you'd be attempting 2 days before and one day before (if you had a month like this one on your chart). The package says "day before O" and "O Day" because that's the MOST COMMON, but it's not a guarantee and you can get the first peak 2 days before O.
The truth is, with the existing technology, there is simply NO WAY to pin down when you're going to ovulate in advance. It just isn't possible. All swaying methods are using the same method I am telling you about here - the OPKs.
Unfortunately, EWCM is not a reliable method either. Women get EWCM for days, even a week in advance of swaying. We are seeing days of peak CM vary wildly - many women are getting a big rush of EWCM 2-3 days in advance or even longer before O, that then dries up by O day. So having attempts as some suggest, on the day of "peak" CM can often end up with a long cutoff which you do not want. OPK are the most reliable. And in studies, women were only able to pin down their O day IN RETROSPECT (not in advance) one out of three days. They could never tell in advance of when they were going to O.
Most of these methods - temping, CM are meant to help people prevent or achieve pregnancy. That's it. They were never designed to pin down ovulation. The people who promote timing for swaying took a good method of getting/avoiding pregnancy and stretched it beyond what it is capable of to sell timing methods to people. But they aren't using the methods correctly and are making claims that simply are not true.
Orgasm is generally considered good for a boy. What I would do is have an orgasm some way and then let your hubby finish doggy style.

Thanks for your reply Atomic and helping me to understand this all!
What time of the day is it best to test with OPK? The clearblue one states to try in the morning with first urine of the day? Are you meant to test more regularly during the day when you can see the test strip is showing signs of getting darker?
I guess timing wise it would be less than 2 days before ovulation anyway if my cycle was like that one, as if I got the static smiley in the morning and tried that evening it would be about 15 hours later the attempt, the temperature shift is picked up in the mornings.
In terms of the wondfo do you advise to read the test after 5 minutes as stated on the instructions or is it better to wait a bit longer to let the test develop a bit more?
Do you know from experience on here if the clearblue ones are less sensitive at picking the hormone levels up compared to others like wondfo - which do you think is better to rely on if one comes up as positive before the other?
Can you clarify are the OPK wondfo tests positive when the lines are equally as dark? Is wondko a good brand?
Have blue swayers had better success on here trying across 2 days or throughout their cycle?
Sorry for all the questions! Not long before my attempt and just trying to get my question marks covered!

OPK other than Clearblue are best used after lunch. Clearblues are supposedly calibrated to be used in the morning, though some people have found them best after lunch too.
Generally, as the tests darken I would go to once after lunch and once before dinner. This is the time of day you're most likely to get a positive. I'd likely NOT bother with testing all day long, if you hit it twice in that afternoon window that is seeming to be enough, and then you'll also have an adequate window to prepare for attempt that night.
Follow the directions on the Wondfo on how long to wait. Waiting too long can give a false positive.
It should say on the boxes which are more sensitive. It doesn't really matter though because there are many variables that come into play, even the urine you use (the concentration of your urine is actually one of the biggest things that can vary). I would go off whatever test gives you the positive FIRST, but if you're more comfortable waiting for them both to be positive that's at your discretion.
OPK are positive when the tests are as dark or darker than control.
We have had success with both ways as long as you don't end up having just that one attempt. It's the one attempt that is the killer.

Just try to hold it till you really have to go, and don't drink a lot of water.
Yes, Wondfo is great.
Men make 50-50 X and Y. This is because their bodies are made of XY cells that divide to make half X and half Y. For reasons we do not understand, even though they're making 50-50, some couples have more boys or girls than we statistically expect - that's why we're all here!
Blue sways are here https://www.genderdreaming.com/forum/add-your-boy-sway-/
I think most people mention their timing in their sways they post. The trouble is, you can't go off what people say. People have heard so much about timing, they assume they did boy timing, when the truth is, many people can't even figure out when they actually ovulated. The ONLY way to know if timing works is by doing scientific studies where ovulation is accurately pinned down using ultrasound or blood tests to prove for certain when people ovulated, and those studies have shown that about 50-50 boys and girls are conceived every day of the fertile window. It is fine to use timing, but I really don't want you to assume you're proving it works by reading sways. It's just not accurate.
You can have chips and chocolate. The blue diet does tend to be calorie dense, so you may end up gaining weight if you eat much of them. Some people claim sugar is "acidifying" but that's been scientifically disproven and I promise, as a mom of 4 boys, I ate TONS of chocolate LOL
Whatever beans you prefer, both are fine
The Chinese Gender Calendar is junk. It does not work. If the Chinese had any wisdom that could predict a baby's gender, there would not be orphanages full of unwanted baby girls. We've done gobs of polls and threads on these various calendars and they're 50-50 every time. I would not skip good months for this.

Be sure you're drinking enough water. You don't need to gorge yourself with it though. Too much water can wash away some nutrients. Just drink to your level of thirst over the course of the day.
Most people weigh themselves in the mornings before eating to be sure they are getting an accurate reading without food in their stomachs. There's no right or wrong though.
NYF is not necessary. It may add a bit of extra nutrition but I don't think it's make or break at all.
Most people use a small amount of Preseed either up inside the VJ or just applying it to the penis right before sex. It doesn't make any difference. If you have a good amount of EWCM you really don't even need it unless you want to add it.

Ok i am trying to aim for 1.5-2 litres daily do you think this is excessive to wash away nutrients? I don't make much EWCM so was hoping this would help, I am not just drinking due to thirst but to up my water intake. I have started the guaifensin i had 1 5ml spoonful before bed last night and I have had 1 spoon today, will have another this evening I haven't noticed a difference yet but could be too early to assess this just yet. I may up it to two 5ml spoonfuls two times a day.
How do people have the NYF? I haven't used it before and I am thinking wether it would be beneficial given we are vegetarian?
Atomic I know you said to use a coin size amount of preseed it has an applicator and the dosage amounts are in grams ranging from 1g upwards, is 1 gram sufficient or should I use half a gram? Also how far into your vagina do you put the applicator in to release the preseed that doesn't seem clear from the instructions.
I think I read somewhere that you recommend 25mg-30mg zinc for men, my husband is having 30mg in total including his multivitamin, he has been having this daily, would it be better for him to have the 15mg separate zinc every other day? We are due to try towards the end of the week what would you advise?
I am doing some last minute debating for positions, in your experience have people had more success with missionary with legs over the man's shoulders or doggy?
Also atomic my husband is feeling a bit under the weather he has some slight soreness in his throat and some phlegm. He doesn't have a temperature. No that's ok as long as you can handle drinking that much. Now if you're drinking that much in addition to tea and juice and coco water too, then maybe. Like maybe 2 liters of liquid daily including water might be more doable.
They sprinkle it on things like parmesan, or there's brewers yeast which can be stirred into juice.
Just continue with your husband's multivitamin with the zinc. No need to change that up.
You can try 1 gram and see what your husband thinks (at a time you're not fertile). If he likes that, fine. If not use a smaller amount and see. Many men find the full amount too slippery.
As you guys have intercourse the Preseed will move all over the place. There's no right or wrong way to do it. many people apply it to the penis before it is inserted. Others put it up inside the VJ. Whatever works for you.
I can't break down the stats between positions for you. There's just not enough info.
Re whether or not to try when you're sick, it's likely just fine, but you have to decide if you can live with it if you try and get a girl, if you'll have a lot of regrets or whatever. If you think you'll have a lifetime of regret, obviously hold off, but the truth is for all we know it's a great month for a boy, and next month might be worse. We just don't know.

Ok we decided to give this cycle a miss as we were really exhausted and didn't want to risk that being a factor. Should my husband still carry on with the extra zinc and multivitamin? Just incase you said to carry on as we were due to try imminently or is it ok anyway? Also in my multivitamins I have 20 micrograms of vitamin b12 and I am also taking an extra 10 micrograms is this ok? Being as I am vegetarian?
Ok will trial out the preseed when we aren't trying is it ok to use it with a condom?
Also I noticed that when I used my wondfo OPK this cycle at 9pm on CD12 it was positive, i know you said if I wanted to follow the timing method to test in the morning and if it is positive to try that night - on my trying cycle if I have a positive OPK in the evening would it be better to try that evening or wait until the following day in the evening if I want to follow timing? Note before that positive I had the flashing smiley on the clearblue that morning and the wondfo had a faint reading.

You guys don't need to take more than 100% of zinc or B12. Even if you're vegetarian you don't need more than 100% B12. I'm not sure how long your husband has been taking extra zinc but I'd have him wean back off it now.
Yes you can use Preseed with a condom as far as I'm aware. (most people on this site don't use condoms so I admittedly don't have much experience with that).
Hmm, I think we may have had a miscommunication. OPK are usually best used after lunch, with the exception of Clearblues which can be used in the morning. So whether you get the OPK in the morning or afternoon, if you are NOT using timing, or ARE using timing and are ok with attempt O-1, have an attempt THAT DAY. Do not wait till the next day.
If you must use timing as strictly as you seem to want to, I guess you could wait till the next day, but you run a very real risk of ending up with the dreaded one attempt (because if you O early on that next day, only the first attempt will show up to fertilize the egg. We have had way more girls with one attempt, even spot on O, than boys.

No, give it more like 3 weeks to a month even. Just space the doses further and further out till down to one per week, then you can drop them.
the answer to your second question is a little more complicated. My personal belief is that you should have attempt that night, but I know timing is super important to you. Unless you have reason to believe you would have gotten the positive test sooner (say, your urine was really diluted) then you might want to wait till the next day in case it's a little premature. Your choice on that. Depends on how desperate you are to do timing.

Yes that's perfect for weaning off.
Yes, according to all modern science (any site that says otherwise is using old studies from 40-50 years ago, or "studies" done by people selling gender swaying methods that are totally misleading) timing does not sway. I have 3 of my 4 boys with girl timing and my girl with boy timing. I have the full case against timing and swaying here: https://www.genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/7691-trouble-timing.html?highlight=trouble+timing
Again, it's fine if you want to use timing. But it is important that you not rely on the one attempt for a boy (OR do anything such as starting attempts so late you will only have one attempt before the egg dies/is fertilized). Number of attempts, much to our surprise, was a strong predictor of gender and one attempt has been very pink friendly

Hi atomic, ok thanks, over how long have you noticed the number of attempts is a factor as in how long has this site been running to find this?
atomic sagebrush
April 13th, 2021, 01:52 PM
After the first two years. The first year we did not know that number of attempts had anything to do with swaying whatsoever (no one had even guessed at this). Just from sheer coincidence, we happened to track our numbers on that. We had absolutely HORRIBLE results for pink swayers during that time (barely better than 50-50). In addition, we also found that many blue swayers who did one attempt went on and on for many months not getting pregnant, gained massive amounts of weight, saw large disruptions in their menstrual cycle because they gained weight, and the majority of that group who did not get pregnant quickly ended up having girls, even though they still did timing methods.
We realized that of our pink swayers, everyone who had one attempt was having 70-75% success rate, and those who had 3 attempts was at 45% (meaning they had 65% BOYS) and this was even with full pink sways! 2 attempts was right in the middle, not as pink friendly as one, better than three. So we quickly changed our methods for pink, doing just one attempt, and we saw our success rates turn around IMMEDIATELY, going from a very poor 58% all the way up to 70% or better.
From then on we have focused on 3 attempts for blue, one attempt for pink, and our results have been consistently good ever since. That's going on nine years now.
Once I noticed this, I was able to see some trends in studies done that also seemed to indicate number of attempts may be swaying. Thanks for explaining this atomic much appreciated.
I have 2 English teas with milk in a day, would decaffeinated tea be better? Is caffeine really bad for a blue sway?
Also if I get pregnant are there any vitamins which i am taking which would be unsafe to take? The multivitamin I know can be taken in pregnancy, the other supplements are:
probiotic
Extra folic acid 400 microgram(I take 800 microgram in total including the multivitamin)
Vitamin D (1200 IU In total including multivitamin)
algae omega 3,
Obviously the extra B12 I am weaning off.

Yes, or three attempts late on O-1 thru O day if your cycle is regular
Blueswayer1
April 16th, 2021, 04:51 AM
Thankfully my cycle is quite regular. So in that case you mean a morning and evening attempt the day before ovulation and 1 attempt on ovulation day?
Also in terms of exercising is the purpose of that to stop people gaining too much weight on the HE diet?
My husband is having a pretty intense time at work this month, is that good or bad for a boy sway?
atomic sagebrush
April 16th, 2021, 03:52 PM
Most people do an attempt at night O-1 and two attempts on O Day.
Exercise while eating more calories and protein means you will be building muscle which helps raise your testosterone levels. That is why you do exercise. Yes, it does also help prevent extra weight gain but that's not the reason.
We don't know how male stress sways. We just don't have any data on that.

April 17th, 2021, 09:07 AM
Thanks Atomic, I am doing 2 weight training sessions a week, and aim for 1 or 2 cardio sessions on the crosstrainer a week - would cardio also help to increase testosterone?
Ok in terms of stress and condition would you say a woman's state would have more of an impact?
atomic sagebrush
April 21st, 2021, 12:35 PM
Oh sorry I started to answer this, then my husband needed the computer!
Too much cardio will lower testosterone. But you can do up to 45 minutes of cardio 4-5 days a week (as long as you're eating the HE Diet) to keep weight from accumulating. That level of cardio will help because your body will still be growing muscle from that.
What you are describing - 2 weight sessions, 2 cardio sessions (provided they are 45 minutes or less) that is great for a blue sway.
Stress is a complicated thing. You (or DH) can have stress that is terrible from bad things happening, feeling like you have no control, that is causing you physical side effects that harm your condition and your fertility negatively. That would sway pink. But there's this other kind of stress that comes from taking on challenges and overcoming them. The feeling of stress you may experience, is much the same, but that doesn't mean that they both sway the same. So I really can't answer your question about stress. In some cases, it's bad, in others likely beneficial, and we do not know how it works for men.

Ok thanks atomic. I had some pain on my left side last night possibly ovulation pain I don't know, what are your views on 'ovulation pain' and how imminent ovulation may be? Also can the side that you have the pain on have any link with the gender if you concieve?
atomic sagebrush
April 28th, 2021, 05:12 PM
You can have O pains before, during, and after ovulation. They are NOT caused solely or even often at ALL by the egg emerging from the ovary (in some cases, O pains are actually relieved by ovulation, like popping a ripe zit.) Instead, they're caused by the swelling pain of the ovary as it develops eggs, the Falllopian tube cramping to move the egg down into the uterus, the fluid that comes from the corpus luteum hitting the fimbria of the tubes, and your body absorbing the unovulated eggs. These things do not coincide with the moment of ovulation like people assume they do.
Your ovaries develop eggs on both sides every month. 15-30 of them (which is a LOT!) This can cause O pains to happen on either side, and in many cases people feel worse pain on the side the egg does not come from as nothing happens to release the pressure.
I have talked to into the 10's of thousands of people by now and have had hundreds of reports where people swore to me they felt ovulation pains only to end up never having ovulated, and others who told me they felt O pains on one side only to have an ultrasound proving they ovulated from the other side! I myself have epic ovulation pains and it's not uncommon for me to have them starting CD 3-5 and going all the way through till a few days after ovulation. I've also had O pains in months I never ovulated (so like I had them CD 14 but then never ovulated for months after that) There's just no rhyme or reason to them.

We are planning to have our first attempt tonight as my OPK was positive this morning. I am feeling nervous about it, it affected my sleep last night so I have napped a bit in the day to try and make up for some of it. My test is positive a day earlier compared to normal, I could see a slight darkness in the OPK yesterday evening but it wasn't positive which probably caused my nerves to shoot up as i knew it will likely be positive today!

Preseed is something we are planning to use, do you know if there are any risks associated with using it? Have a lot of blue swayers used it? Just wandering if there have been any effects on how pregnancies have developed that you are aware of?
atomic sagebrush
April 29th, 2021, 01:20 PM
As far as we know Preseed is safe. It has been extensively tested for safety.
Yes, many many people have used it, not only swayers but people trying to conceive.
The Preseed will be long gone from your body by the time any new pregnancy is capable of being harmed by it. And it really cannot get up inside where the sperm meets egg, it just isn't possible.
Blueswayer1
April 29th, 2021, 03:07 PM
Thanks Atomic. I guess what I was getting at is does it make it easier for not so healthy sperm to get to the egg?
Also after having intercourse I was planning to stay on my front after we finished in doggy with a pillow underneath my tummy for 15 minutes, then go on my back for 15 minutes is this ok? I would then try and sleep without going to the toilet as I don't want everything to come out. As I am using preseed are you meant to urinate after or can you go to sleep? I am just wandering about risk of infection?
Also how much time are you meant to leave in between attempts is there a set amount? We tried around 10pm at night and again around 7am this morning is this ok?
atomic sagebrush
April 30th, 2021, 12:04 PM
Again, it's extensively tested for safety, including testing for things like increased rates of miscarriage and such.
Preseed has actually been shown to be INFERIOR to your body's natural CM (though it's still better than any other lubricant on the market), so if anything fewer unhealthy sperm could get through.
Yes, laying on your belly and then on your back after sex is fine. Preseed is sterile and actually less likely to cause infection than semen (and just having sex itself, because the genitals are covered with microbes that get moved around during sex)
As a general rule it's always good to urinate before and after sex for the sake of preventing UTI but when TTC obviously we can't always do that. Urinate before sex and then lay flat after. The Preseed should not make you any more likely to have UTI than anything else though (unless you were allergic to it or somethign but you'd quickly figure that out)
As long as you're in the fertile window you can have attempts however close you want. You don't need to give it time for the sperm count to recover because all the sperm have a chance of surviving, so you aren't trying to make it just the one hugest batch of sperm ever, if that makes sense.
To illustrate - with one Shettles attempt you're trying to get as many sperm as you can in one shot. Let's call this 30 million sperm.
But if you're having three attempts, your first batch can be 30 million, your second batch might be 20 million, and the third might be 10 million - but you're STILL going to be in with far more sperm and all those sperm have a good chance of surviving because of the EWCM. No matter what you're still going to have way more sperm than one attempt.

atomic sagebrush
April 30th, 2021, 12:44 PM
Yes I'd continue on thru O Day - so on O Day I'd attempt at least once, and maybe even the day after if you're in any doubt about what day you will ovulate. Having an attempt the day after will guard against delayed ovulation.

April 30th, 2021, 03:44 PM
Ok thanks for such a quick reply Atomic. What's the situation with exercise around the time of ovulation? Are you meant to carry on as normal? I have just finished a workout on the cross trainer and thought hope the motion of exercise doesn't affect what the swimmers are doing in there? It was 8.20pm when I finished the workout and we attempted at around 7am this morning. We will try again this evening, and possibly tomorrow aswell
Also my basal body temperature I had to check about 40 minutes earlier this morning to the time I usually do because we had to have our attempt, do you know if this will affect the accuracy of the temperature reading? If you don't do it at the exact same time each day?
atomic sagebrush
April 30th, 2021, 04:11 PM
Yep, I would just carry on as normal. People used to have to work very hard all thru their lives, if some exercise could prevent pregnancy the whole human race would have died out a long time ago. The only thing that could possibly matter was if you jumped up right after and exercised but even that is a long shot.
Yes, it can affect your temp to test at a different time of day, make a note on your chart that it may not be accurate. you can usually still discern the pattern.

Ok thanks atomic. We didn't manage to get the evening attempt in yesterday 😞 I don't know if I used slightly more preseed than I should have my husband found it hard to finish.. the amount I used was fine for the 1st 2 attempts.
Is it really bad for a blue sway that we only did 2 attempts? So we did one the evening of my positive test, and 1 the following morning which is likely to be the day of ovulation
atomic sagebrush
May 1st, 2021, 12:00 PM
It's not uncommon for there to be an issue with the Preseed making things too slippery. Use less next time esp. for the last attempt.
I do think you guys should try to get in another attempt if possible. Three attempts was quite a lot better than two.

Thanks so much for your reply Atomic. We will try again tonight hopefully, I am concerned what if I have already ovulated and another attempt won't count now :(
Update: thankfully we managed to try this eve just after 8.30pm didn't want to leave it too late in the day, during the day wasn't possible, so in all we did the following attempts this cycle:
Day of positive OPK: evening attempt
Day of ovulation (assuming): morning attempt, like I said it didn't happen in the evening.
Day after ovulation: we tried in the morning again it didn't happen so just got the 8.30pm attempt in.
Does this look ok to you atomic?
Also if the OPK test lines are faint does that mean you have already ovulated?
Thanks so much for everything I really do appreciate all your help
atomic sagebrush
May 2nd, 2021, 10:41 AM
I can't say if it was two or three attempts but either way definitely better than ONE! :)
No, faint lines on the OPK does not mean you've ovulated. The hormone and ovulation are only indirectly linked. You'll ovulate an average of 24-36 hours after the first positive, whether or not your test is still positive at that time or not. But ovulation can sometimes be more like 48-72 hours (again, even if test is negative at this point) which is why I advise you guys to have another attempt to guard against delayed ovulation.
Blueswayer1
May 2nd, 2021, 03:47 PM
Do you mean you advise us to have another attempt now or were you saying that this is why you advised an extra attempt before to guard against delayed ovulation? Please see screenshot below, the last 2 days as you can see the temperature has risen and I took my temp at the same time, does that mean I have already ovulated? Also fertility friend has my ovulation date wrong as on CD 11 my test was negative, it was the following day that it was positive again. There was a slight variation on times I took the temps on CD 11, 12 and 13 due to 1 of our attempts and my child waking up, I don't know if it is because of this? What are your thoughts on the chart?

May 2nd, 2021, 05:23 PM
Both. If there's any doubt in your mind you haven't ovulated yet then have another attempt. And in the future, try to get in the extra attempts if you possibly can.
FF is wrong about your O day. The one high temp there is probably just a fluke throwing it off. I suspect if you see a big temp rise in the next few days it may recalculate that for you,
Blueswayer1
May 2nd, 2021, 06:03 PM
Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly atomic . Ok thanks for future reference, on top of the evening attempt on the day of positive OPK, ovulation day (AM and PM attempts) originally planned, what other extra attempts would you advise?
Do you mean you think that high temp on CD12 may be a fluke?
Also please take a look at the screenshot below. I was woken 25 minutes earlier today than I usually wake up to take the temperature, by my child's coughing. I tried not to move much to avoid my temperature reading being affected. Will this have affected the reading being awake this long before taking the temperature? Also i accidentally checked it 5 minutes before I have been doing the last couple of days and it was 36.60. I checked it again after the 5 minutes and it was 36.64 so I adjusted it to this on the fertility friend app.
All these months I have been able to document my temperatures more accurately its typical that this wasn't the case on my trying cycle. Any ideas on when I may have ovulated? According to OPK I thought it may be on CD13 as I had a positive test the day before.

In terms of additional attempts, it's up to you if you want timing or not. If you do want to keep going with timing, stick with the attempts you've already had. If not, we can add attempts every 2-4 days all cycle long, but keep the 3 attempts in the fertile window in addition.

Ok the 3 attempts during the fertile window is there any other combination that may be better? We tried the evening of positive OPK (CD12) the following morning (CD13) then we were meant to do that evening again but I think the preseed made it hard for my husband to finish that time, we then did the following day an early evening attempt (CD14) not sure if this last attempt would have counted though.
Below is my chart I couldn't make sense of it so stopped testing CD20 I don't know if you can make any sense of what is on there? Timing doesn't sway. REgardless of my experience, it's been completely debunked by scientists using moder technology to pinpoint ovulation. Totally fine to use it if you want, but it simply doesn't work and most of us on here have the timing opposites to prove it.
I got three of my four boys with cutoffs and the other was a sneak attack, I do not know when I ovulated with him.
The first one we had sex twice right after my period had ended (100% sure we had sex twice) and then decided to stop having sex to work on our relationship (we hadn't been together that long). I wasn't tracking specifically, but I don't have super long periods, nor do I usually ovulate early - I have a pretty regular 27-28-29 day cycle. So even if I ovulated CD 10 which I don't think I've ever done, and had sex on CD 7, that's still a cutoff. Very likely even longer.
My second son we were going to try, started having sex after my period ended, but then my husband changed his mind long before I thought I could possibly be fertile. Again, I wasn't specifically tracking, as this was 27 years ago LOL and I had no gender preference, but I had ovulation pains several days after the last time we had sex (ovulation pains are not super reliable but when I have them that severe, they do typically mean I haven't Oed yet!). We were both flabbergasted when I came up pregnant.
My third son I was trying Shettles timing and we had sex 3 and 4 days before I expected to ovulate. (100% sure this was twice) Then my husband actually left and had been gone for days when I Oed. My cycle was super regular, and I had the severe O pains that indicated I had not ovulated yet so I'm pretty darn sure on that one that he was at least a 3 day cutoff.
My fourth son we had sex twice (again, 100% sure as it was a work week and we weren't having sex during the work week because my husband was working nights). I wasn't ovulating regularly because I was still nursing my 3rd, and again, it was the shock of a lifetime we came up pregnant. He might have been a cutoff too, just that I don't know for sure.
Some elements of cardio are fine. It's just that I don't want you guys running for an hour a day seven days a week.
How much folate are you taking? Are you taking coq10? Most things that claim to aid egg quality are worse than nothing so I don't want you to just take a bunch of stuff.
I do not have the data to know about the vaccines. I have to leave that up to you guys because I simply don't have any way to know for sure.

Ok thanks for sharing your experience. If timing wasn't followed then when would you suggest to attempt? Last time I think my husband found trying twice in a day a bit much, so it was evening of 0-1, am and pm O (his job is hard so think he was generally tired to).. if we did follow timing and wanted to do the 3 attempts any other alternative pattern you would suggest? Will weigh it up after how we go.
Ok thanks, when others ask you about weight training what exercises do you normally suggest? I do cross trainer workout to so don't want to overdo it on cardio and wanted something just weights focused maybe. I haven't really exercised during the 2 week wait though is that really bad if we try in about 10 days? Will be getting on it properly now. I trained hard for months beforehand.
I take 800 folic acid daily, I don't take coq10. Anything you would suggest for the egg quality?
Yeah I understand, my husband thankfully didn't have a temperature as I know that can affect sperm count. If it was you what would you do? I really don't know what to do! Not getting any younger but same time this is our last chance at swaying.

If you don't want timing then try O-2, O-1, and O Day.
If you want timing there's no other way to get three attempts but having 2 in one day. O+1 is too late and will not count as an attempt. The attempts MUST be late O-1 and O Day for them to fit in Shettles.
Taking a bit of time off of exercise isn't a dealbreaker. Just pick it up now. Cross training isn't bad at all for blue just be sure you don't go longer than 45 min.
Up to 2000 mcg folate or folic acid (folate is best), take this all thru entire first tri of pregnancy then gradually wean off by spacing doses further and further out till down to the amount in your prenatal.
Coq10 - 200 mg daily till BFP then gradually wean off by spacing doses further and further out till down to one per week, then you can drop it.
Here's my rule of thumb - if you will live 1000 lifetimes of regret if you try and end up getting a girl, then skip the month, but keep in mind that you may very well be skipping a fine month and end up trying in a month that's actually MORE pink friendly. You don't know what the future holds and I have seen WAYY too many people skip months for some minor concern, only to end up having tons of stuff go wrong, and end up trying in some month I cringe at, leaving me recalling "oh wow I wish they would have just tried that one month they skipped for no real reason!"

Ok thanks atomic. Doing the timing method have you found it takes longer for people to concieve?
Ok in terms of the exercise be it cardio or weight training does it have to be for 45 mins per session or can you do 30 mins which is better? Also in my previous message I asked what weight training you usually recommend as I am conscious that body pump is considered both cardio and weights.
What's the difference between folate and folic acid? Is 2000 better for everyone or those over a certain age?
So the coq10 is that for egg quality? Is it safe after a BFP to take it? Is it short for coenzyme Q10? If so My multivitamin has 20mg.
Should my husband add in carnitine how beneficial is this? At the moment he has l arginine.
How important is good sleep for a boy?
We are skipping this month due to my husband having the jab and also I have got a cold:(

Yes, Shettles timing (or Babydust, or whatever Shettles timing is calling itself this week, LOL) takes significantly longer for people to conceive.
30 minutes is also fine. 30-45 minutes or even 15-20 if you're doing weights.
Cardio plus weights is fine as long as it does not go beyond 45 minutes in a session. I generally recommend Blogilates and PopSugar Fitness but not because they're "better" per se, it's simply that I've tried them, like them, and they're free on YouTube without requiring any fancy equipment or gym memberships to do.
2000 is better for blue swayers because you're likely eating/drinking/taking supplements that may deplete it from your body. Folate is simply a different form of folic acid that is said to be better used by the body, and a small minority of people with a genetic abnormality called MTHFR cannot use folic acid. So I am in favor of using folate if it's possible in case you have that abnormality and don't know it, but if you've used folic acid in the past it's likely fine. Most people can use folic acid just fine.
For blue swayers, the coq10 helps your muscles grow. For men, it likely also helps with sperm production. The egg quality potential benefit is separate from the reason I have you guys take it.
Carnitine is beneficial and I definitely recommend both carnitine and arginine for hubbies. 500 arginine, 1000 carnitine
Sleep is very important but it doesn't take as much as people think to help your sway. Don't feel you need to sleep 10 hours a day or anything, just as long as you're not running yourself ragged and giving yourself time to heal from your exercise, that's the important thing. In other words just do your best to get more sleep than you WERE and that's all good - you don't need to hit some impossible amount of sleep to sway blue.
We don't have any data on hair dyes really. Just not enough info. I will say that I've always dyed my hair and I have 4 boys so it can't be any kind of magic bullet, that's for sure.

Oh that is a concern if the timing takes longer i don't have the luxury of time :( I thought as long as you try nearer ovulation like the day before would mean sperm are there rather than doing days ahead and they aren't?
Oh ok so there's no magic number for length of time each workout has to be? How many sessions of exercise a week is best?
In terms of 2000 folic acid I think I read somewhere that it can increase the chances of twins or can lead to conditions in children? Don't know how correct that is?
So in terms of egg quality there's nothing I can really take to help that?
Atomic the algae I usually take is unavailable is the below ok? If so how many a day should I take? It's algal, from what I can recall think you said its the same as algae? Are the ingredients and strength ok? Also it has carrageenan in is that bad?

Nope. I understand that intuitively it feels like trying close to ovulation should help boost chances of conception, but sperm take time to get to the egg and to capacitate (this means lose the protective shell on the outside of the sperm to be able to fertilize an egg.) Sperm live for days and can impregnate people even after a couple of days waiting for the egg. Studies have shown that sex 1-2 days before ovulation is statistically better chances than on O Day. The sperm need to be waiting for the egg, not the other way around.
Well, the "magic" number is just not longer than 45 minutes! Other than that, it's all at your discretion.
Folic acid may help both twins to successfully implant and survive, but it isn't believed to actually cause more twins to be conceived.
If you follow my instructions on the folic acid/folate and wean off of it at the end of the first trimester it is not harmful. Only if you take high doses (and this is typically higher than we use anyway) all through pregnancy was it ever shown in a study to potentially be harmful. It is at your discretion of course but there are very firm reasons of safety why we have that recommendation where we do for blue sways, and not taking enough folic acid/folate is one of the most proven causes of birth defects there is.
What I'm having you take is not algae, please understand. You need a vegan source of DHA and these are DERIVED from algae (and they are called "algal oils" because they originally come from algae.) You're taking DHA, NOT ALGAE. I just don't want anyone to be confused here, because I don't recommend algae, but I do recommend DHA, and you need this form simply because you want a vegan source of DHA.
Yes, that is fine, I'm not sure how many milligrams you were taking before but you should try to take about the same amount.
Carageenan is just a kind of seaweed. It is in many products including supplements in small amounts.

Take the supplements that we already discussed including the 2000 mcg folic acid or folate. Most of the supplements sold as "boosting egg quality" either do absolutely nothing or else sway pink by lowering blood sugar. If I had some magic supplement that could improve everyone's egg quality safely and without affecting their sway, I would of course already be giving that to you guys!

You had a great attempt, it's just that some months aren't THE month. Even fully fertile couples take an average of 3-6 months to conceive, doing everything in their power to get pregnant - there's about a 20% chance each month. Pregnancy is such a miraculous and complex thing it's honestly amazing we succeed at it as easily as we do.
You can take anywhere from 100-600 mg coq10 (I suggested 200 as a good dose for you but that's a fairly arbitrary amount). My point is, it's a forgiving thing. So if you get the 120 mg plus the 20 in your multi that's fine, if you take 200 plus the 20 in your multi that's also fine, and your hubby can take either. All fine. we don't have any evidence that any particular dose is better, you just want to get SOME without getting too much!

Thanks for your reply Atomic. I haven't had any bleeding for about 6 hours, before that there was a bit on the tissue when I wiped and slight bit of spotting on my pantyliner. Do you think it could be implantation bleeding? I'm 14 days past ovulation
atomic sagebrush

I would take a pregnancy test. If you're 14 DPO that's not implantation but a little spotting in early pregnancy is extremely, extremely common.

I took one this morning atomic and there was what looked like quite a faint positive on the wondfo! I am worried though as its quite faint and also as if the spotting not classed as implantation! What day do you usually implant? What causes spotting in early pregnancy? According to fertility friend I am due on my period today.
Also I have had a bit of cramping on and off over the last couple of days, today it was this morning when I woke up but not really anything since (it's 435pm now). I have also felt a bit of tingling in my breasts on and off a bit like when there is a 'let down' when breastfeeding over the last few days. Thoughts please?
atomic sagebrush
July 6th, 2021, 01:53 PM
You implant around 7 DPO but you can have implantation spotting from CD 10-14. It's not common to have bleeding that STARTS at CD 14 be associated with implantation. If it was implantation-related you already would have been having it by now.
But that having been said, I find that "implantation bleeding" is far less common (as in, practically nonexistent) and what is much MORE common is a small amount of bleeding in early pregnancy. Some of this comes from a bit of lining sloughing off, or else from your cervix, which gets very very soft in early pregnancy and is easily injured. Since you're also likely having more vaginal discharge this small amount of blood, which would otherwise go unnoticed, appears to be a lot more than it really is.
Cramping and tingling breasts can be a sign of early pregnancy. Is there any chance you ovulated later than you thought?
We are having a flurry of faint positive tests on many different brands that then turn out to be ghost lines or flukes. I'm hoping that this is a true positive but just be aware that for some reason we're not clear on, recently we are seeing a lot of faint positives that never amount to anything but that are NOT chemical pregnancies, either.

Thanks for your reply Atomic. According to the chart i last attached would you not say I ovulated CD14? I got the positive OPK CD13 and we did not have sex again in my cycle after the 3rd attempt on CD14. I stopped taking my basal temperature when ovulation was detected on the chart on CD17.

atomic sagebrush
July 7th, 2021, 02:06 PM
I need the rest of the temps later in the cycle to say if you have ovulated or not. It's really not a good idea to stop temping at that point because it makes it very hard to say what happened. Many people have a stairstep rise in temps and don't ovulate till after a couple stairsteps.

Oh ok I didn't know that your meant to keep testing.
Iv been having some more brown spotting today and have also had cramping so I'm starting to loose hope now :(
atomic sagebrush
July 7th, 2021, 03:14 PM
Yes, while it's ok to skip the temps around your period, you are meant to temp the rest of the month to enable us to see patterns that happen after ovulation, which can help us see if you are pregnant or not (we could tell right now if you were pregnant or not based on your temps, most likely) can let us know if you're having issues with your LP, and can let us know if you didn't actually ovulate when you thought you did.
You're not out yet. If you did indeed ovulate later than you thought, you may still just be having either implantation spotting or early pregnancy spotting. Cramping in early pregnancy - even quite severe cramping - is totally normal.

Ok thanks for clarifying.
Atomic I had quite a lot of cramping overnight also and still getting it on and off today, also getting pink spotting/discharge now, is that bad that it's gone from brown to pink? :(
What would cause early pregnancy spotting opposed to implantation spotting?
atomic sagebrush
July 8th, 2021, 01:09 PM
Brown and pink are ok. We don't typically want to see bright red bleeding, but even that can end up in a healthy baby. I had bright red bleeding for five days, thought I had my period even, and had a healthy 8 lb baby nine months later.
You may have a little bit of lining come off in a different spot than where the baby was attached, you may be bleeding from the cervix, you may have a cervical erosion or even a fibroid that bleeds a bit due to pregnancy hormones, or then there are rarer situations where you were possibly pregnant with twins and one did not make it while the other one is.

I can't say but it's not over till it's over. Just try to take it easy and don't jump to conclusions. Even red flow can end up with a healthy pregnancy - like I said, I had heavy red flow for 5 days and had a healthy baby at the end of that, and several people have had that as well. If something is going wrong, there will be time enough to engage with your feelings of sorrow and worry at that point, for now it's only going to stress you out which is not what you need right now.

Hi atomic, from your understanding how long should spotting usually last? The line on my pregnancy test has got darker from before if that means anything. I am still getting cramping and spotting on and off when I wipe (today is the 6th day, had nothing the day before it started but the day before that I had it for a couple of hours), have no idea what is going on :( sorry if TMI - when I wipe sometimes I have brown or pink and a couple of times it has looked more like red stained discharge, any thoughts on this?
Also you mentioned that spotting can be caused by cervical erosion what is this? Can cervical erosion also cause cramping? In terms of implantation bleeding how many days does that usually go on for?
atomic sagebrush
July 13th, 2021, 02:45 PM
There is no "should". People have it for all different lengths, some people have it the whole first trimester, others even all pregnancy. 6 days is not at all unusual and while I know that it's very alarming, we have had people with gushing levels of red bleeding who did end up having a normal and healthy pregnancy. While I know this sounds like an impossible task I would try not to be alarmed by what you're seeing as it's (believe it or not) very minor compared to what a good number of people, myself included, have experienced and gone on to have babies at the end.
This is not implantation bleeding, which would already have ended. it's some sort of spotting in pregnancy. I can't tell you the reasons why for you personally (and most likely, neither can the doctor.)
No, cervical erosion does not cause cramping, but it's very common to have cramping in early pregnancy so the two things can be totally unrelated.
Blueswayer1
July 14th, 2021, 01:16 PM
Thanks for your reply atomic. I am worried about it getting worse and have to brace myself each time I go to the toilet. If it's a cervical erosion does that last all pregnancy? I don't think I would want them to do an internal examination as would be concerned about that disturbing things down there
atomic sagebrush
July 15th, 2021, 04:42 PM
They don't need and in fact likely shouldn't do an internal exam (but sometimes they need to do one for other reasons and may tell you what is going on on that basis). Pregnancy hormones can trigger cervical erosion but it hasn't been linked to negative outcomes with pregnancy. Here's a good article: https://bogbit.com/how-cervical-erosion-affects-pregnancy/ (please note, this talks about STD as a potential cause but the vast majority of people with cervical erosions do not have STD!)
It's only natural to worry about it getting worse. That's something so many of us experience - every time we go to the bathroom, fearing the worst. Just try to remind yourself that there will be time enough to worry when there is CAUSE to worry, and in the here and now everything is ok, and this has every chance of clearing up and being just a scary start to a healthy pregnancy.

Thanks for the link atomic. That's just it atomic because I'm spotting I'm not sure everything is ok :( my doctor has booked an early scan for next week because of the spotting so just counting down the days. I hope you are right atomic. Thankfully up to now i haven't been spotting in the night at least, it's starts in the day, does that give any indication on what it could be?
atomic sagebrush
July 16th, 2021, 01:05 PM
I'm not asking you to believe everything is ok. I understand spotting is terrifying. But in the here and now worrying gets you nothing (and in fact probably aggravates anything going on by raising your stress level and blood pressure), and you will have time enough to worry if (and hopefully they won't) things get worse.
Here's the thing - even if you weren't spotting at all you can't be sure everything is ok. Many of us go in to the doctor thinking everything is fine, no spotting at all, only to find out our baby passed away or never even started to develop at all. No pregnancy has a guarantee, unfortunately. So you're really no worse off than you would be in a pregnancy that had no spotting (I know it's hard to see things that way, but it's true!)
All spotting has a tendency to be better at night because you're laying down and worse in the day when you're awake and moving around. It's from gravity and activity. I would just try to take it easy during the day NOT because you're preventing anything dire from happening (if something dire is happening, it will happen whether or not you're taking it easy) but because the spotting is distressing you and maybe you won't feel as distressed if you're not seeing it as often.

atomic sagebrush
July 18th, 2021, 02:22 PM
I was pregnant with twins and one didn't make it. I also had a placenta previa which resolved itself before birth. We don't know which the cause was. Neither of these things was figured out till much later on so for many months the bleeding was explained by my doctor as something that happens fairly commonly in pregnancy.

I am so sorry to hear that atomic, I hope it didn't upset you me bringing the detail up I assumed it may have just been put down as 'unexplained'.
I am still having the spotting I can't believe how long it's going on for (12th day today) sometimes it is faint, sometimes it is stringy discharge which is stained.
atomic sagebrush
July 18th, 2021, 03:55 PM
Not at all, I'm actually glad for the experience because it really does help me help you. Most people never find out a reason so in my case I can point to it and both explain that this actually DID happen to a real person, not some mystical person in a medical book somewhere, and also that there are some reasons that it can happen that are actually not pregnancy-ending. And I know my baby and I will meet again someday.
That discharge is at the root of a lot of spotting, I think. Since we have more discharge in pregnancy, what can happen is that a very small amount of blood from a cervical injury can mix with that discharge and start to look like a lot more than it really is. While we can't know for sure I would be cautiously optimistic.

Aww bless you, you will meet again ❤
I forgot to say I have also noticed in the toilet probably 4 times a piece of tissue/a clot not sure how to define it I am assuming it maybe more classed as a clot, it hasn't been big but still noticeable. Could that come from the cervix or am I clutching at straws? :( also we haven't had sex since we tried to concieve so can a cervix still be injured some other way?
atomic sagebrush
July 19th, 2021, 09:50 AM
Any time there's bleeding there can be clots. Or it could be that in this case rather than having bleeding from the cervix, you lost a small amount of lining from a place other than where the baby is implanting. This early on, there would not BE anything built up from the pregnancy yet (just a tiny ball of cells at the start) so whatever you're seeing it would not be tissue from a pregnancy ending.
Yes, when the cervix is very soft it can be injured from straining to go #2 or sneezing or even just exertion. Or it could be cervical erosion from hormones.
Have you taken another pregnancy test recently?
Blueswayer1

Thanks for your reply Atomic. Yes I did the clearblue digital test yesterday and it said pregnant not sure what's happening though as the weeks indicator didn't go up to 2-3 weeks until 8 days ago, I was hoping it would go to 3+ yesterday (as this was a week later) but it still said 2-3 :( Do you know if the clearblue weeks indicator tests are accurate?
atomic sagebrush
July 20th, 2021, 03:35 PM
They are not accurate. You would need to have beta blood tests by your doctor to see if your pregnancy is progressing.
Blueswayer1
July 21st, 2021, 06:04 AM
I had the scan atomic they couldn't see anything so looks like I lost it :( I feel so devasted. She said the lining is still there. They wanted to do an internal scan but I refused that, so they have taken a beta HCG blood test, the result was 790 I have no idea if that's too low for 6 weeks and 1 day? Will be having my 2nd test in a couple of days.
Update: I just passed two 1.5 inch clots, looks like it's gone :(
atomic sagebrush
July 22nd, 2021, 12:43 PM
Well, if you didn't have the internal scan then they may still not be able to see a pregnancy at 6 weeks. They really should have explained that to you. It may just be too early to see with an external ultrasound at this stage. They typically will do transvaginal (internal) scans up till 8 weeks because they can't reliably see with an external scan prior to that.
We can't go off a single beta blood test. We need to know if there is doubling, that's the only way to know for sure.
At this stage of gestation you would most likely simply have a heavy and likely somewhat painful, cramping period. Seeing a couple of clots doesn't mean you lost the pregnancy.
I'm not trying to hold out false hope. It's simply that based on what you are describing here and now there is no way to know if the pregnancy is working out or not. So I don't want you to pursue a course of action in the assumption the pregnancy is over when it may not be.
You will know a lot more with the second beta.
Blueswayer1
July 23rd, 2021, 01:55 PM
Hi atomic, I had my 2nd beta test and it wasn't good as my levels haven't doubled (only gone up 35%) they did a scan and could only see an empty sac, they also did a transvaginal scan and couldn't see anything my cervix is closed. They have diagnosed me as a 'pregnancy of unknown location' and have arranged to do another beta test on Monday. They think it looks like a non viable pregnancy and aren't ruling out an ectopic. I am feeling sick with worry:(
atomic sagebrush
July 24th, 2021, 03:08 PM
Oh NO I'm so sorry to hear that, but especially about the potential ectopic. Did they tell you what to be looking for?? I would have you be taking your temperature daily, and of course if you feel any pain (even somewhere that seems unrelated like your shoulder) get to the ER IMMEDIATELY because this can be a true, life threatening medical emergency if an ectopic ruptures. please keep me posted how you're getting along.
Blueswayer1
July 26th, 2021, 02:27 PM
Yeah they told me what to look out for, thanks for also highlighting this as I didn't know to check my temperature. I had another beta test today and my HCG levels went down by 21% after 3 days. They have asked me to go back in a weeks time to see what my levels are like then. In the meantime they have asked me to go and be seen urgently if i have a lot of bleeding and severe pain.
I pray that my body resolves this naturally as I really don't want any medical intervention. I am so devasted by what has happened, the last 3 weeks have been full of so much upset and uncertainty, I feel numb and hope that I did nothing to contribute towards this happening :broken:
atomic sagebrush
July 26th, 2021, 07:15 PM
It is normal and natural to worry if you did anything to cause a loss, but the vast majority of losses are caused by chromosomal abnormalities that you could have done nothing to prevent and then a minority of others are caused by things just randomly going wrong, as we see in ectopics or in those rare cases where someone contracts a harmful virus when pregnant.
It's a very few people who have done very obviously bad things (like drinking heavily or doing drugs) who actually cause their losses, even though we all worry about being to blame. Please don't blame yourself.

atomic sagebrush
July 30th, 2021, 12:06 PM
The idea that you're more fertile following a miscarriage is an old wives tale really. You may release more eggs (possibly!) but that doesn't mean that your cervical mucus is particularly favorable or that your lining will be good - particularly if you have to have a D and C to resolve the pregnancy. For blue sways I recommend waiting a cycle (with the exception of chemical pregancies, which you can try the first month if you want) or even two if you have to have a D and C procedure.

I help everyone regardless of their ability to pay, and it is my pleasure to be able to help as many people as I can, including those who cannot afford to pay me. But the sole reason I am able to do this instead of having to go back to work (in which case I would not be available to answer any questions!) is because people do buy plans. Additionally, some of the plan money goes to keeping this site up on the Internet, and virus/spam free, which is a lot more costly than people realize. So, make of that what you will! If you buy a plan I'll continue doing what I've been doing for you all along only I'll have more money to feed my family with.
Yes, I'm familiar with "It Starts With the Egg." Some of the information in there is good. Some is not so good. They overlook a lot of potential side effects of some of the supplements and have NO information about how these things work when taken all together in very high doses. It's not simply about what makes an egg appear healthier in a study, it's also about if a pregnancy can take place successfully. It does no good to take every supplement under the sun if they are interacting badly or have side effects that are harmful. So I would proceed with caution in taking some of those supplements at all (such as melatonin) and in high doses mixed together (many of the supps she recommends are strong blood thinners.)

Thanks for clarifying atomic. How much is the cost of the plan in UK money? I appreciate the time you have taken to help me and regardless if I can afford the plan or not my intention has always been to show my appreciation by making a donation. With the plan is it more guided by you what we should be doing in relation to all aspects of the sway, in comparison to now where i ask the questions?
Ok my interest about the book is more around things you can do day to day to help egg quality, like I read on a forum someone read it and said you should avoid perfume and nail varnish. Is there anything day to day you know of we should avoid to increase egg quality?
Atomic is it true that as we age our testosterone decreases? Is high testosterone needed to concieve a boy? I have recently turned 39 do people my age tend to have low testosterone? Do men and women both need high testosterone? Apart from weight training is there anything else I can do to increase testosterone?

Oh I'm so sorry, yes I saw this and began to answer but somehow I never finished.
The plan would be 71 GBP and here's the conversion: https://exchangerate.guru/usd/gbp/99/
The plan lays out everything you need to do to sway and of course I'm still available to answer your questions. And since I check the custom coaching forum you will always get a reply in 24 hours (rarely on holidays I have a day off but not often). Here in the free forums it can take me 5-7 days to reply - because things have been slower due to the coronavirus, I've been answering more quickly than my norm, but that's not always or usually the case in the free forums.
Some of that stuff people suggest really doesn't help. It's just a way to help people feel they're in control of an uncontrollable situation. Most people will simply get pregnant again after a loss and have no issues with their subsequent pregnancy, whether or not they did any of those things. But doing them makes people FEEL like they're doing something! Now, to answer specifically about nail varnish, etc, normal amounts of those things CANNOT harm a pregnancy. Perhaps if you were a nail technician or a professional perfume sniffer if there is such a thing, you might get enough exposure to cause harm, but day to day encountering nail varnish or perfume just cannot harm a pregnancy. It's just a mental game people play to make them think they're doing something and alleviate anxiety.
Yes, it's true that testosterone decreases with age but this is a gradual process that is well underway by the time you're 39 and DID NOT just suddenly drop. Plus, testosterone is just a theory, and not even a proven theory. We see some things that raise testosterone like Clomid, and men taking steroids for weight lifting, swaying strongly pink. It is likely very much more complicated than simple testosterone levels.
Many of us, myself included, got boys at 39. It simply CANNOT be that the gender ratio is strongly skewed by age because we would see it clearly in the population as a whole. But we see women 35+ and even 40+ still having boys in roughly equal proportions.

Thanks for your reply Atomic. Does the plan detail supplements and does it include a meal plan, what exercises to do that kind of thing? Is it personalised? I.e my husband and I are vegetarians.
Thanks for clarifying do you think using hairspray is ok?
Do you know if stress reduces testosterone atomic?
Thankfully I have been discharged from the outpatient clinic yesterday, they were seeing me weekly for blood tests to monitor my HCG after that initial rise which didn't rise enough. They did a pregnancy test yesterday and it was negative so they didn't do another blood test to confirm my HCG levels. They told me last week when they booked me back in for this week if my levels had dropped to at least 25 then they would discharge me anyway - now that my test was negative does that mean my HCG would have been 0?
I am so relieved that this nightmare is over it went on for weeks, but so so sad that I was pregnant and now I'm not :broken: do you have any idea why I ended up with a 'pregnancy of unknown location' atomic? Could I have been deficient in something? Could it have been a progesterone issue? is there anything I can do to help prevent a miscarriage going forward?

Yes, it does include supplements and then I help you daily with your diet and exercise via the coaching. Making one size fits all meal plans did not work for us. If I made one for each person individually I would have to charge tons of money (as they are very time consuming) and I find that "meal plans" made by other people are impossible to stick to. They recommend foods you don't like, can't find, and that cost a fortune. So we have you guys make your meal plans with my help in the coaching forums and it works out great - you use all the foods you like, can get easily in your area, and are used to buying, and then I help you with understanding how to combine those things.
For exercise, I strongly recommend Blogilates and PopSugar Fitness on You Tube.
I personally think reasonable use of hairspray is fine. But you need to do what you feel comfortable with.
Some kinds of stress can lower testosterone, others can raise testosterone. Testosterone has never been proven to sway blue anyway, it's just a theory and the evidence behind it is really pretty sketchy overall. If you wait till you are recovered and back in good condition again you have a great chance of a boy regardless of stress.
Yes, if your pregnancy test is negative your HCG is zero.
Ectopic pregnancies can happen to anyone. It simply happened that the fertilized egg came to rest in the wrong place and briefly implanted somewhere there wasn't room for it to grow. As far as modern medicine knows, it has nothing to do with deficiencies or progesterone. Some ectopics appear to be linked to STD or other causes of scarring in the uterus such as endometriosis. Frequent douching over the course of a lifetime may also cause that scarring. People who smoke and who are over 35 may have a slightly higher rate of ectopics. But really, most ectopics are just sheer bad luck that happened when the fertilized egg came to rest in the wrong spot.
Everything in the blue sway will help improve your chances of healthy pregnancy. But there's no magic pill you can take that ensures you won't have another loss. (If there was, I would already have you guys taking it!) All you can do is be healthy and then from there it's in God's hands.

Thanks for clarifying atomic. Do you ask people to fill in a questionnaire so it is personalised? Do you have a set of categories that are covered and is the plan led more by yourselves opposed to us as in the current forum?
Does the blogilates and popsugar concentrate more on building muscle or is it cardio based?
How long do you recommend waiting to try again after a miscarriage atomic for a boy sway?
They never confirmed it was an ectopic, they didn't think it was based on there observations, where else could it have implanted?
I will get back on the plan, how long before trying should we be exercising and following supplements and the meal plan?

Yes, Blogilates and PopSugar have many many muscle based exercises programs. That is why I recommend them for blue. I would not have recommended an exercise program that was more appropriate for pink. I like those two because they have so many good blue friendly exercises anyone can do at home. They do have a couple mostly cardio exercises in the mix but you can tell them by their description on YouTube.
I generally recommend waiting 1 cycle for an early loss, 2 cycles for a later loss or if you had to have a D and C. I'd just pick it up with the plan now and then try when you're ready.
Some pregnancies implant on the outside of the uterus or the edge of the tube. It's not common but it can happen.
Yes, we normally do the questionnaires with the personalized info, but because the site owner has been dealing with a medical emergency with one of her kids and her inbox has been full the past couple weeks so the questionnaires are glitchy, we've been having people send me brief lists of their personal info instead of the questionnaires. I can do it either way - the brief lists are just as effective as the questionnaires. I personalize every personalized plan based on the info people give me and they cover supplements, sex patterns, diet tips, all sorts of stuff.
Beyond that, I'm honestly not sure what more you are wanting from me in regards to the plans. I have already answered sixteen pages of questions for you for free, given you a lot of time and energy simply because I just flat out LIKE helping people whether or not they can pay me. And of course this website is up here in the first place which takes a lot of money and time to keep it operational. I will keep doing that for you and everyone else who shows up here, whether or not you pay me. In fact the majority of people I help never pay me a penny.
If you buy the plan you will get exactly what you are getting right now, plus a plan. You will also be guaranteed help within 24 hours, which is not always the case. Just from luck, and things being slower this year due to Covid, I was able to get back to you very quickly, so you were fortunate to get a level of coaching that was in line with what paid clients get. Under normal circumstances I probably would not have been able to help you so promptly and thoroughly if not for things being a bit slow from the pandemic.
The truth is, I honestly couldn't help you any more than I already have, because I have done my very best to assist you in any way I could, free of charge. I do this because I WANT to help everyone who shows up here. You seem to be saying to me "Well, since I already got so much of your help for free, now tell me what more you'll give me for money" instead of "thank you."
The way we do this is that people who can afford to pay, do, and people who can't, I help them anyway, for free, to the best of my ability. So, buy a plan, don't buy a plan, but please do not make me spend any more time trying to "sell" you a plan when you've already gotten the equivalent of months of free coaching. I don't like selling stuff to people or trying to cajole people into buying things, so I am not going to field any more questions where I feel like I'm trying to talk you into something you don't want.

Thanks for your reply Atomic.
I do feel so so terrible as it feels I have offended you, I was just trying to get clear in my head what the plan consists of so I am fully informed just like I would do with any other purchase i make. My intention is to give some money for your help wether it's through this plan or not. I was not expecting this response and if I'm honest i don't have the headspace for it given what I have just been through and concerns I have for people I know who have covid.
Pretty much every message I have sent to you has started with the word 'thank you'. I won't ask you any more questions about what the plan involves, apologies for any offence

You don't need to apologize or to say "thank you", that wasn't my point at all. I don't fish for compliments or thank yous, I am trying to explain my feelings about being asked to prove myself/my "value" over and over again about what MORE you will get from me, after I have already answered so many of your questions. I don't want to expend any more time discussing in what ways the coaching might be different/better from what you've already gotten, when I've already done my darndest to help you.
While I will happily continue answering any swaying questions you have, I am not going to spend any more time answering questions about why someone should bother with a plan when I've already helped them extensively for free. I've already answered your questions about the plan in detail, and it feels to me like you're just asking the same question in lots of different ways trying to find some way the personal coaching is "better" than what you have gotten out of me for free. It isn't better, because to all intents and purposes, you GOT the personal coaching service. Seriously, this thread has more questions in it than 2/3 of my paying clients, and most times I got back to you within 24 hours! I'm not sure what more anyone could possibly expect than what I've done for you here??
There's really nothing more I can explain to you regarding the plans and coaching. I don't want to do it any more. I could've spent that same time I've spent explaining the plan to you, in helping people with actual swaying questions or cleaning my house or playing with my kids. Please move on to a different topic of conversation.
Again, I help 95% of people without any pay at all and I have done so for all this time. This is not about money, full stop. I don't care if you pay me or not, in fact I would prefer you don't because I don't want to feel like I have now strongarmed you into it and I will refund anything you pay me now and in the future. I have NEVER cared if people pay me, but I find it hurtful when someone I've tried to help quite a lot really, is like "meh, who needs a plan when you already told me all this stuff, what more will you do for me now". Honestly, it makes me feel like an idiot for doing it.
