Pretty Sure it’s a boy

I’m 13 weeks 5 days. I had a nuchal translucency scan today. The tech was looking around at the baby and asked what genders our 2 children are. I told her that we have 2 girls and are dying to know this baby’s gender because we would love to have a boy. As soon as she started looking around, it was very obvious that this baby is a boy!! She confirmed and said that she’s 97% sure that this baby is a boy!! I was so surprised that it was obvious this soon. This isn’t the greatest picture but it was pretty clear on the screen. I’m still slightly afraid of getting my hopes though. I’m planning to schedule a private scan soon to try to confirm again. Does this look like a boy to everyone else?? Well, the techs see a lot more than we do in the scan and if she is saying it's a boy then it very likely is.

That having been said, potty shots at this gestation are not reliable. I would likely give it a couple weeks and go for the private scan and you'll be able to be certain.

It looks like a boy, but there’s no scrotum visible (or labia/clitoris) in that image, so I’d wait for a confirmation to make sure it’s not part of the cord. That said, this is just a still shot at one point of the scan and there could have been plenty of clearer views other than this image.

Your last pic also looks boy. The other ones don’t have a clear nub. One kind of looks like a nub, but not enough for me to guess. I gave up on nubs when the majority of guesses for my DD1 and DD3 said boy nub. The tech at my doctor’s office won’t guess nubs and doesn’t believe in the theory. She said on a live scan the nub moves all over the place and can look boy and girl on the same scan. She said in her experience (scanning for 20+ years) potty shots are of greater accuracy if the baby is past 12w5d gestation or measures greater than 13w0d. Apparently around 85% of babies can have gender determined at 13 weeks and accuracy is over 90% in those where they can guess. In my brief looking for research to indicate this, I found one using both nub and potty shot ranging from 11w0d through 13w6d and the accuracy rate went way up after 12w3d with potty shots having better determination accuracy. Very few couldn’t be assigned in the 13 week range and accuracy was something like 96%-98%, which puts it at the same rate as 18+ anatomy scans.

I’m feeling pretty confident that this baby is actually a boy because I know that my girls looked much different. [emoji4] I also know that we weren’t looking at the cord because the tech showed me where the cord was and the colored blood flow through the placenta.
