Hello everyone
It was a successful sway but she is down syndrome baby. The doctor didn't see any abnormality during my pregnancy. I knew after I gave birth. It was a shock and I am trying my best to overcome my sad feelings because she is a bless from God. I love her and I will give her all my love.

my question is :
if I think of conceiving again, what should I do to have a normal baby? Are there any tests before pregnancy? to tell if I am at risk of having another Down syndrome baby!

Did I do something wrong? I took folate before pregnancy and until I finished the first trimester. I took (iron, Calcium and D, recommended by my doctor) and One a day multivitamins during my pregnancy.

I know that the chances are higher if the woman is 35 or older.
I am almost 42 years old. I feel guilty but I try to tell myself that there are thousands of women in their forties and they had healthy pregnancies and normal babies.
We don't have any down syndrome in my family or my husbands family.

Congrats on your baby girl!!!

This was most likely caused by age combined with random chance. Nothing you did or didn't do caused this to happen, it is simply that the chances rise with age.

If you do want to conceive again, I would take 2000 mcg folic acid or folate till the end of the first trimester and then wean off. Also, eat a lower but not very low carb diet like the atomic fertility diet. We do not believe this prevents chromosomal abnormalities but it can make your eggs healthier overall so as to possibly prevent other issues that could arise, and also may make for a healthier pregnancy.

Time is not on your side, so I would start trying to conceive as quickly as you're able to.

Oh and there are no tests prior to pregnancy that can predict if you'll have a baby with a chromosomal abnormality. Only during pregnancy.

it was a c-section. How long should I wait?

How long did your doctor suggest? I think most docs suggest at least 6 months if not longer.

I didn't ask her because I know that she would say "don't even think about it"

Well, in that case you need to get a different doctor. That is not how medical professionals are supposed to relate to their patients. They may not agree, but they are supposed to give you advice to the best of their ability.

If the section was uncomplicated and nothing went wrong, and you're healing normally, the earliest you could possibly try is six months. Most sources do recommend more like 12 or even 18 months.
