View Full Version : Did I mess it all up??

Long story short, I had always O'd around CD12-14, with 28 day cycles. I used to temp, but since having the two boys, I haven't been (well, I started a week ago after I thought I had O'd). Anyways, I got a near positive OPK on the 29th, and then it went away...so I just assumed that I must have missed the surge overnight, and we BD'd every day. I had been REALLY strict on my diet, had lost 5 lbs, and was being really good about it. So, once I thought I O'd though, I really loosened up on the diet for a few days (well, maybe 4-5 days!!) and we indulged in pizza, fries, and I ate to my hunger (plus some chocolate cake and the likes!!), thinking that I didn't really care since the egg would have already been fertilized. I was still skipping breakfast though and keeping my blood sugar low.
Fastforward to yesterday morning.....I had still been using the OPK's as a "just in case", and yesterday morning I started noticing a fade-in pattern that I usually get (CD20!!). By last night, the OPK was a DEFINITE positive, no question. So, we BD'd yesterday and today.....but now I'm all worried that I screwed the whole thing up with my almost week long of cheat days!!! I mean, I still haven't been eating meat (we ate a lot of red meat, chicken, etc), and no fish, so I'm still eating vegetarian, but I can't help but be mad at myself and think I've just conceived another boy (I don't mean that to sound as horrid as it does! I think I've already resigned myself to only ever having boys, but I want to think that the girl dream can still be alive).
Ok, that is my long story. I guess there really isn't much I can do now? I am going to religiously skip breakfast this week to make sure I at least give it the benefit of low blood sugar, and I started back on the diet in full force yesterday. So I guess now I just wait :(

could you have OVed the first time and got pregnant.. and this is your BFP on the OPKs?
did you have fertile CM either time?

My first thought to! You might have a BFP since an OPK will turn positive when pregnant.

My thought too. Maybe take a HPT.. you might be preggers!

I took two HPT on the weekend with FMU and both were BFN - that had been my thought too, because I had been cramping for the past 5 days. Now I'm realizing that the cramping was more related to O upcoming. The OPKs are negative again today. So weird because I NEVER O on CD21! That is so late for me!! Although, that was also before kids, and this is only my second cycle since weaning, and since delivering the youngest, so maybe that is it. I thought my body sorted it all out quickly though, because I O'd precisely 14 days after weaning, so I figured it just got back into the swing of things quickly and easily. Guess I was wrong!

Well on a positive note, o'ing that late is wacky and unusual for your cycle could be a blessing. Crazy, unusual cycles mean that your hormones are changing and doing different things from when you conceived your boys. That is in your favor big time!

Thanks for the positive side - I hadn't thought of that :) I have been in such a dreary mood today thinking I lost my chance. Guess it is out of my hands now anyways!

That makes me feel a little bit better b/c I o on cd17. But I have always o'ed on cd17-19 and I still have 3 boys.
I was reading that study and it was saying to sway girl to dtd o-1 and o day. Not before or after

that's how I decided on my timing really... it felt right (although it was once late on O-2 and twice on O-1)

That is very encouraging! I guess this is completely different from how I conceived my boys anyways, so that is good too. Plus, now I'm SO sick (toddlers bring home everything!!), but I can't help but secretly hope this will help with a girl if we did manage to catch that egg.... :)

That doesn't mean that DTD on o-1 and o day sways pink tho!!! It is more likely that people who conceive girls are slightly less fertile and may only be able to conceive on those two days because that's when fertility is the highest. Just a co-inky-dink.

Jazzers, I think you did just fine altho I do think it's best NOT to loosen up on diet until you get a BFP!! Remember, people conceive every day without doing anythign to sway!!

I know :( I was just feeling frustrated, and starving, and completely deprived. I've never been great when it comes to diets....and thankfully I've always had a fast metabolism. I'm trying as best I can now to stick to the program! So hard though when the boys are eating all that yummy food for dinner and lunch, and I'm stuck with the same old same old boring tasteless stuff. Oh well...

Try not to worry too much, I know that's easier said than done  I agree that you still have a few great things on your side, late O being One. All you can do is continue the diet and wait...

I don't know how all you ladies do it! I was really strict with the diet for about 6 ish weeks, plus another 3-4 weeks before that having given up meat. This is only cycle #1 for me, and I feel like I'm ready to throw in the towel!! How the heck am I supposed to do this month in and month out?? I keep thinking "ah well, look at all my friends who had boys first, and just had their 2nd babies who are all girls. Maybe it's just a numbers thing, and 3 will be lucky for me...". I think I have to get back in a better head space...

I totally understand and that's why I"m always harping on people to hit it hard on diet and then get pg fast rather than including too many sway factors that interfere with pg (some of which don't even sway anyway). I can't even tell you how often that happened when I was back on IG. Diet is rough and once your T starts dropping, it gets even harder to stay motivated once 2 or 3 BFN's start piling up.
Interestingly, the blue mamas have just as much trouble on diet as pink swayers do - they're like, OMG I'm so stuffed, I can't stand it another day!!
Good luck!!

AS -- Tell them ttc blue mama's we would rather be stuffed than starved!
jazzers -- the diet is killer and than is why you should get pg fast like AS said. I have been on the diet soooo strict for nearly 7 weeks and my o/attempts are 2 weeks away. I just knew I had to get pg this month cause I can't live eating like this one more second than need be. I gave up on my one time attempt and timing bs because really that is all it is. Its not proven to sway and why focus on those aspects and have your odds of pg go way down? We are dtd 7+ times in the fertile window (o-2 til o day, 2-3x day) to ensure that if I ovulated a healthy egg I will get pg. My diet, low glucose, low T level, low ph level, my dh's fr etc will determine the sex of the baby, not when I dtd or how many times. Go hard core diet and then just bang it out. That's your best bet to get your little princess -- cause once you give up the diet/glucose you are relying on less that proven sway factors and luck.
