View Full Version : Urgent advice needed - should I DTD tonight? After positive OPK in the evening

I’m in a bit of a pickle, so would appreciate any advice (esp from @Atomic)

Today at 8pm I got a positive OPK and also peak smiley (very unexpectedly!). The issue is that my husband just released yesterday (he has been releasing every 2-4days).

Do we DTD tonight and then tomorrow and again the following day (so three attempts)? Or should I skip today and do twice tomorrow and once the following day? I’m just annoyed that his sperm won’t have recovered from yesterday’s release (he didn’t release in me).

Hi!
I am no expert but would definitely DTD asap as by the time you wait until the next morning of peak and then only then start your attempts, you limit your odds.
I don't think him releasing the day before is a big issue if he is able to still DTD for the three attempts - if you think he may not be able to perform straight away, maybe wait this month out unless you think you can manage to squeeze in 3 attempts in the 24-36h after the peak test?
Good luck! I know that it is so annoying when you plan everything and your body does a trick on you like that!! But great that you tested at night and caught the peak :D

Thank you for your reply LMSM!

I chose to go ahead as it was lucky this month I caught the peak - usually a struggle and have had enough of the HE diet lol. I will continue HE but if I get BFP lay off abit as I’m gaining too much weight on it and struggling to find exercise time.

We DTD at night after I saw the peak and then in the morning. Sorry for TMI, but the morning dtd was the quickest ever and I think husband struggled (abit half assed)…
Will DTD tonight as well so can get at least 2 proper attempts + 1 half-assed attempt

Good luck and all the best wishes for your sway prep! I hope we both add a healthy little blue to our families xx

Thank you everyone for cheering me on! Eases my nerves although have the same doubts as most swayers have (could have done better should I have known about opk turning positive so soon).

So to recap (for my benefit really lol), my attempts look like this:

Monday 10th Apr: 8pm positive OPK, first DTD attempt at 12am
Tuesday 11th Apr: half assed DTD attempt at 8am and then DTD at 12am
Wednesday 12th Apr: today I will try again at night as DH too tired in the morning and to cover if there’s late ovulation

If there’s anything else I can do to increase my chances of blue attempt wise - do let me know. I’m literally obsessing over everything and have concluded there’s never going to be the perfect time to conceive - now praying it was enough to swing blue.

Will keep everyone updated. In the meantime, tons of blue dust to all trying!

Oh gosh I'm so sorry I missed this yesterday, we have been horribly sick for the second time this year.

YES you should go ahead and try. There is nothing wrong with having two attempts back to back. It's when people have many attempts back to back (7 or more) that sperm count drops. If you were having regular release, then having one more attempt, sperm count will still be high and you'll have a great attempt.

No worries Atomic. Hope you and family are feeling better now. We also had a cold last week (DD brings home all the good stuff from daycare).

I’m 1dpo now, so waiting to see how it pans out this month. It was first month of TTC so 🤞

Hi guys, just wanted to update that I tested yesterday and today morning (11dpo) and got a BFP. Clearblue said 1-2weeks. Excited but still FX that I pass over to the safe zone (I think I read if it’s a chemical I will know by 6/7 weeks).

No pregnancy symptoms, similar to my DD. Once I get to 12 weeks, I will post my sway - hoping I have managed to sway blue and praying for a healthy bubs

Hi guys,
I thought to update you all as I did my NIPT at 11 weeks (last Thursday) and I think my sway has worked (but not 100% sure as I’m thinking my Fetal fraction was a bit low):

NIPT type: Illumina
Fetal fraction: 5%
Gender: male

I can’t believe the result and am guarding my heart right now and will see what my ultrasound says at 20 weeks. If any of you have experience of Illumina NIPT tests and how accurate and reliable they are, please do let me know.

Will update you after my ultrasound in a couple of months. Any thoughts welcome!

The NIPT are reliable! Fetal fraction will go up over time, anything over 4% is accurate. Huge congrats!!!

Hi yes I gave birth to a healthy baby boy in Jan. He is absolutely delightful.

Thank you to everyone who helped me through my panic and confusion. Can’t still believe that I have a son!
