hi peeps i got my HCG level back today it was 3150 at 21dpo, they want me to go for a scan first thing in the morning, now ive planned to ask about my placenta location for the ramzi theory, but i have no idea what i need to say or what i need to be looking for, can i have your help please, she told me to have a full bladder so i take it that it will be a abdominal u/s, so will i be looking at (on the screen) my abdomen the right way round or will it be flipped ?? any advice on what to say would be very much appreciated x

You need to ask for a transversal shot of your uterus to see what side the placenta is starting to grow on..they will say the placenta is not fully formed, obviously, but there should be some thick white around where it is beginning to develop. Good luck. My U/S got very huffy and would not induldge me at all in the theory.

Just ask what side the placenta is on! The tech will be able to tell you.

A transverse view is just the angle they are looking at the uterus. They will likely tell you that there is no placenta yet, as that happens around 7 weeks along, but you can ask if they can tell which side it might form on. It will be the reverse of what you see on the screen. ie placenta is going to form on right of picture is actually left of body. Mine was not at all obvious. BTW, don't stress if baby does not have a heart beat yet, as it may still be a bit early for that. They just want to see a yolk sac in the right place (ie in your uterus). Enjoy seeing your little blob!

what you are looking for is what side the chorionic villi is located on. The only way to tell is to check blood flow by doppler, which is usually not part of an early scan. We always risk of our Obs/Techs thinking we are nuts, dont we? Ha ha... good luck xx

just want to say good luck for your scan! I personally don't think the Ramzi theory is worth stressing about as there are too many unknowns and, from experience, most sonographers aren't that cooperative!

And ....just what if the tech gets it wrong and you're excited or devasted for no reason? I am tempted to ask when I go in on April 13th...but i don't think I will for my psychological health :)

I agree with others here, I simply dismissed Ramzi this time. My Ob was not interested in finding out what side my placenta was forming and my husband who is on OB said it is impossible to guess from a still shot, (Ramzi confirmed this as well, he commented on IG!!!)

With my dd, my OB (a different one!) confirmed the placenta was forming on the left and the theory held true for me, but I wouldnt rely on it as such. Oh, and also there is this rumour that the baby is on the side of where the placenta is forming, I am sorry but it is NOT true, confirmed by 2 OBs to me and also by my dd who was clearly on the ride hand side of the placenta during the early weeks. Good luck for your scan, enjoy the little flickering heartbeat.. xx
