View Full Version : Migraines and gender - do you get migraines?

Hi Ladies,

I've learned that a couple of boy moms here (including myself) are migraine sufferers. I wanted to start a thread to see if there is any correlation between migraines and gender conceived. Please let me know if you get migraines and what gender your children are. If you have friends who get migraines and have mostly single-gender families, list them as well.

I have had migraines since I was a teen, and I have 3 boys.

Thanks everyone!!

I'm a fellow migraine suffer too and I have 3 boys. But.... This month is the first month I have not had one at all around af or ov and it's also the first time I've been taking saw palmetto and Vitex together so I'm wondering if that is linked? Or is it because through diet I have changed my body chemistry??? Time will tell I suppose. But I have really noticed a huge difference. I would literally have a migraine for two weeks of a month. Hth!

I'm not a migraine sufferer. I remember having a very bad one as a teenager when I had my period and the only other bad one I had was during my period the month before we conceived our girl!

Thanks for the replies!

Irishmom- I read somewhere that Vitex can help with menstrual-related headaches. Maybe the Vitex is helping you. Let's hope those migraines stay away!!

My sister has chronic migraines and has bgb. I have had maybe 10 ever since about 8 years ago... Hadn't had one in forever but got one last month after starting the diet...

Yes, I have bad migranes sometimes several times a month (often with AF but also related to heat and alcohol, I get them more in the summer) and have 4 b 1 g. My mom says she gets them but describes them just as bad headaches. She doesn't get the aura, vertigo, and nausea like I have and she's better in a few hours, where I am sick a day coming, the migraine day, and a day going.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I got one for awhile when I was on vitex either???? But I often get better for a few months after I have a baby (no AF = no migraines) so I chalked it up to that. may have just been a coincidence.

I started getting the auras, but not the headaches, during my first pregnancy (DD1). I had never had them before that. I have had them every pregnancy since. After my second pregnancy, with my son, I developed these sharp, shooting pains in my head--like someone was jabbing an ice pick into my skull--that only lasted seconds at a time. This was accompanied by light flashes. I was convinced I had a brain tumor, had an MRI, saw the neurologist--and was told it was migraine activity. Anyway, I have GBG and #4's gender is unknown.

I didnīt have migraines when I conceived my boys, I started having them on my girl sway.
I believe it is because my hormones changed since I had them every month a couple of days before or after O.
I continued to have them in the first 4 months of this pregnancy, I still get headaches now but without vomiting.

Most of the time, I had migraines when I was teenager... actually it stopped after I got pregnant with DS2! Not sure why, but I haven't had any migraines ever since.
And my migraines only happened when AF came. No AF, no migrane.

I have daily migraines, mine are called atypical migraines as they aren't headaches, they are in a different part of my brain that cause just vertigo and nausea. I take meds for it now. I have two boys. My mom doesn't have migraines but gets a lot of headaches and has two girls.

amari, I get those sometimes too. Sometimes I have the classic ones and sometimes I get the vertigo/nausea ones. Good times. :p

I think the poll is starting with a skewed population... Most ladies here are overwhelmingly TTC girls. I don't think a migraine correlation will hold water with that statistics.
I suffered migraines monthly with AF, have two girls :-)

I agree. Most polls on swaying sites are useless for that very reason. :)

I've previously had 3 severe migraines (hemiplegic type, loss of vision, speech and numbness) and I've had 3 boys but the migraines weren't at any time related to pg x

I get migraines so bad (unless I'm on continuous BC pills or pregnant) that I've even gotten facial paralysis. Having a girl.
