(Everything has been ok in our pregnancy, but then I had my NT scan a couple of weeks ago (I was 12 weeks, 4 days)..I am not 15 weeks. Our scan came back abnormal for increased nuchal fluid. Of course, our risk isn't calculated until it's combined with the results of our blood test as well. I received a call from the genetic counselor and my PAPP-A level in my blood was low. Both the scan measurement along with my blood level, made our baby's risk for Down's Syndrome jump up way high. We decided to hold off on an amnio for now and instead did a new non-invasive blood test and we are currently in the agonizing days waiting for a call from the doctor with results!)
To get our mind off of the stressfullness that we've been dealing with, I thought it'd be fun to see if anyone is able to gather a pretty good gender guess based on a side view we received at our NT scan. Again, these pictures were from when I was 12 weeks, 4 days.
This is the same photo twice, just one is closer up and a little grainier, and the other is a further one that the detail might be more easily visible. I posted them both so I'd love to hear your thoughts. I do see a nub, but I am no good when it comes to the angle of the dangle!
Also, I realize that these pictures may not be the best, so I thought I'd post the link to our ultrasound done during our NT scan to see if you can gather any gender clues from that. In the beginning, the tech was making some random measurements, but then you can see baby about at about :45. Also, someone else said they noticed *possible* boy parts on our baby at 1:43.
Here is the ultrasound on youtube:

We already have a little girl who is 5. Obviously, there's the obligatory "We just want a healthy baby" statement, but we are hoping for a boy. I thought it'd be fun to see what your guesses are!
Thanks,
Stacy

I'm sorry you're going through this :hugs:
I was in agony myself, stupid tech couldn't see nasal bone on my 12 weeks scan ( one of the indicators for Down), so I came over tomorrow and then he said he saw it  My initial risk for Down is 1:80 as I'm 39, but my double test came back great so DH and I opted NOT to go for an amnio. I'm praying we've made a right decision :worry:
This buba does look like a boy

I think this one looks like a boy...going more on skull shape than nub. A friend of mine had an amnio last year as her results came back high risk for Downs. Turned out it was a false +, and the amnio showed he was fine. Sure enough, he arrived as a perfect little boy. All the best during this worrying time.

Thanks everyone for your kind words for our little one! We are STILL waiting on results. I finally called Sequenom, the compant who is conducting the blood test...they are on Pacific time and I'm on Eastern...anyway, they said Friday would've been the soonest day they would've had results and more than likely they'd come today or tomorrow. Ugh. After going through the holiday weekend, what's another couple days, right? :/
Anyway, still hoping all of this worry is for nothing and I will wait as long as I need to if it means good news!
Any other guesses?

The nub in the video is really flat, I would say girl.
I went through the same headache with my youngest son's fold measurement. It was 3mm so they were pushing me to have amnio. I refused, and worried my silly head off over it. My son is fine. I hope you get some reassuring answers!

FINALLY! I have some news....but first, you won't believe what happened. Sequenom, the lab who processes the MaterniT 21 test was taking a crazy long time processing our sample. Finally, on the 10th business day last week I got a call from the genetic counselor saying that she has never had this happen before, but Sequenom actually contaminated my specimen somehow making it impossible to render any kind of result, therefore our test was inconclusive. Can you believe that?! All that stress and now I still didn't have answers! The company was really apologetic and thankfully refunded the money that we had to spend out of pocket for the test....
Then I had to decide what to do next. Do the test again and go through all of that again, do an amnio or do nothing. I know it's a very personal decision, but in the end I decided to do an amnio. Not that it would change us carrying the pregnancy to term, *but* if our little baby needed specialized care or would need surgery or anything else right away, I wanted to be prepared as much as possible.
I thought the anxiety leading up to the amnio was worse than the actual procedure. We had a beautiful scan of our little baby and then had the amnio. The needle was in an out in less than two minutes. The oddest part was following the whole thing on u/s while it was being done. It was odd to feel the needle (it was like 8 inches long) go into my stomach, then into muscle, then finally into my uterus. And even odder to see the needle behind the baby's head on the screen. Such precise stuff. There's definitely a reason why doctors get paid what they do!
Anyway, I got my FISH results yesterday which confirmed that we have a HEALTHY baby GIRL! I still have yet to receive the full panel of results (those should come in a week) but she does not have any defect of trisomies 13, 18 or 21.
So thank you all for your input on the gender of our sweet girl, but more importantly...thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts during this REALLY stressful time.
(sorry I was so long winded) :)
I thought I'd share how we told our 5 year old little girl Norah that we were having a girl. Here's her reaction. I love her!
