Dr. P- do you rec. 24 chromosome screening

    Hi Dr. P.
After 2 failed cycles due to having no normal girls to transfer and having done 24 chromosome screening both times- on day 5 and some on day 6..would you rec. it again for me for this last cycle? I am 38.
    Our long awaited is here!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear of your difficult time with this. I would still recommend 24. Take your first cycle, how many transfers and frozen transfers would have resulted from the 5 girl embryos that you had and to what end? The 24 chomosome testing will give you the truth. Hopefully you will have better luck next time.

Thanks Dr. Potter...I appreciate your response.
For this third cycle I am not getting alot of follicles..maybe around 7 ..so would you still rec. 24 screen even if I only get 7 eggs?

If you are going to transfer all embryos that are girls, do the 2 probe. If you are not you may end up wasting money and time as alluded to above.

I am not so concerned about the money (as I probably should be at this point..), I am scared to transfer an abnormal but also scared of not giving my embryos the best chance possible...I know these are tough choices to make. Is there usually a certain amount of embryos that you say a cycle should yield in order to go for the 24 testing and if so is that b/c of the financial reasons?

If you are concerned about transferring abnormal embryos, GSN is the way to go. With a 2, 3 or 5 probe you may be transferring abnormals. Fortunately, the abnormal embryos do not implant the major of the time.
