    HRC future patient

I just did my AFC today and it only came back at 5! (3 in one ovary 2 in the other). I did it at lunchtime of cycle day 2 but I realized that the first day of my period was very light and not a proper flow and I guess could have been classed as spotting. Could therefore having done it on effectively day 1 made my results lower?

I am only 33 and I’m feeling very discouraged. I am waiting for my blood tests which I know will give a better overall picture. I know it doesn’t matter but I conceived my two boys within the first month of trying .

    Thanks so much in advance.

    Hello,

An AFC of 5 is low for your age, I would like to see the other results to see if they are consistent with your AFC or if maybe this was an inaccurate measurement. Did you have this performed at a fertility clinic or a radiology center? Day 1 vs day 2 doesn't make much difference in terms of AFC.

Remember these tests do not mean you are infertile, you can likely still get pregnant very easily as you did before, it just means you may not respond well to the IVF medications, and therefore not have much success with IVF. Let me know when you receive the rest of your results so we can have the full picture and I can better assess.

    Best of luck,

Thank you for replying. I had it done at a local fertility clinic.

I did all my blood tests today so I shall have those results in a couple of days and hoping that they are better.

    Thanks again

These results are not what we would expect for your age, but given that you are still young, I still think we have a shot. At 33, we would expect 1 out of 4 embryos to be normal. Given your results, you will likely not be a great responder to the medications so we would only get a few embryos. So there is a chance that we would need to do a couple rounds to bank the embryos then test them all at once. I'm happy to have a more in depth phone consult with you if you are interested.

    Best,
